BEFORE: This flyweight battle promises to deliver many fireworks as Romanian singer Inna is keen to claim Gemma Merna's scalp to restore her stock among the divisional elite. However Gemma is a tough scrapper who has a puncher's chance against anyone out there and even BBU TV's Denise van Outen believes the fans will be treated with an unofficial grudge contest since these two women are overly aggressive and truly despise each other on top of it.
Gemma Merna wears a white bikini set & black gloves. Long blonde hair tied in a half-up ponytail. Inna wears a red bikini set with blue trim & yellow gloves. Long black hair tied in a braid. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1:
Inna wants to make an early statement and she lashes out with a jabbing attack before looping a hard left straight into the blonde's nose which allows her to dive in with more head shots while Gemma struggles to stretch her elbows in wake of the singer's uptempo charge. She tries to land a few aerial bombs but Inna's shifty footwork allows her to stay out of the striking range and run away with more precise punches herself. Merna gets tagged from both flanks and becomes visibly upset after leaking several clean head shots from point-blank range that only improve the brunette's confidence in the process. Inna doesn't quite trap the older foe along the ropes but she takes the numbers game by a wide margin and leaves the Brit fuming at her coaching staff during the interval.
Round 2:
Gemma finds her response tackling the Romanian to the body before working the uppercut route to clip her on the chin repeatedly during the opening minute of the second round. Inna fires back over the top but this time she loses the exchange value and has to soak up more clean hits up the middle before dropping into mid-distance coverage. Gemma tries to track her down but struggles to match the singer's mobility and reverts into verbal taunts hoping to blow Inna's gasket. That idea proves successful come the final minute when Inna rolls out with a late jabbing drive but then gets busted with a counter-punching answer and stumbles onto her heels while Merna duly cleans her up the middle and knocks her head back several times to raise significant noise around the arena.
Rounds 3 & 4:
Inna comes in with another aggressive effort and manages to split the blonde's high-guard before blasting her in the boobs to trigger a lenghty body-busting exchange in the middle of the ring. Gemma survives the initial attack before Inna digs a not-so-stray elbow into her rack and drops several half-uppercuts on target to send the actress reeling onto the ropes. The Romanian charge intensifies and allows the brunette to gash Gemma on the boobs for remaind of the round leaving her visibly breathless at the bell. More of the same in the fourth, Gemma gets sucked into a gut-checking series and just can't match the singer's pace which sets the dominant tone for Inna's aggression down the stretch. She pounds the British stunner back to the ropes and works on rendering her topless according to Denise van Outen in the booth before finally running out of gas come the final minute. And Merna has taken enough jug hits to live with the discomfort in her boxing career so it truly takes something special to break her down with one spirited charge.
Round 5:
Inna wants more of Gemma's cleavage but walks into a wicked left/right combo on each temple before a drilling harpoon catches her around the liver area and stuffs on her heels in the center of the ring. Ugh! More head shots come in quick order and knock Inna back while she develops a visible swelling around her face in wake of Merna's furious attacks during the entire round. A couple of punches send Inna into a wobbly shake and she can't quite recover until she gets pounded back to the ropes where she applies a desperate clinch however Gemma breaks free and lands more left/right combinations between the mitts to sink the Romanian foe into loud spasms and the bell basically rescues the brunette from going down alltogether as she cuts an extremely unstable figure when the referee eventually pulls the British woman off her. Cue in more taunting from Gemma!
Round 6:
Here comes the British charge and the punches connect with Inna's face on speed dial early in the sixth which only adds to the damage factor before a blood spillage finally breaks the resistance dam half-way through the second minute. Gemma becomes even more aggressive and hammers in another left/right cycle and this time Inna succumbs to the pressure as she slumps forward with a whimper to meet a vicious hook on the jaw that SENDS HER FLYING ONTO THE ROPES. She bounces off them in dead meat fashion and crashes face down on the canvas amid a wild cheer from the London audience. Uh-oh!!! It's a brutal knockdown and even as the brunette pushes off the boards there's more blood leaking from her nose... she sits down on her heels and displays a very hollow look in her eyes before shaking her head in a sign of surrender. Time to call this one off!!! KO6 Gemma Merna!!!
AFTER: Impressive knockout to finish out the year which indicates Gemma can still get it done in style against a very demanding opponent. Denise van Outen reckons BBU fans will get to enjoy Gemma's presence in the ring for a while yet and that's only good news for marketing value while Romanian Invasion manager Corina Caragea vows to get Inna back on track sooner rather than later: "We made some wrong choices to leave Inna on the bench for too long but she's gonna prove she belongs to the flyweight elite one way or another. The nasal damage is not ideal but nothing too serious. Expect her to be back in shape within the next few weeks!"
