BEFORE: Some might argue these two are the hottest bantamweights north side of forty and Jennifer Metcalfe is determined to prove she's the superior woman by accepting Una Healy's challenge to duke it out in bare knuckles which immediately raises the market value of tonight's contest. Una has more experience in this genre and comes in as slight favorite but Jennifer believes she can upset the Irish singer in her own trade and maybe earn herself a rare championship chance against the fearsome Sophia Thomalla before too long as well.
Jennifer Metcalfe wears a black crop top, micro jeans shorts & white tapes wrapped around her hands. Long dark brown hair tied in a braid. Una Healy wears a neon green crop top, micro jeans shorts & green tape wrapped around her hands. Long auburn red hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Una jumps into an early slugging charge testing Jennifer's bare knuckle resistance even if the chaotic drive doesn't connect with the desired effect. Jennifer waits out the storm and throws single knuckles in response before the singer catches her with a vicious hook on the eye and follows it up with another left hook on the nose. Even David Haye would be proud of that and maybe he is... back to BBU matters and Una continues to deliver the heat up the middle, nothing too overzealous here but enough to send Metcalfe into retreat which only fuels the redhead's desire to teach her a bloody lesson. Jennifer avoids trouble looking quite shifty on her feet but it also leaves Una verbally taunting her when one of her punches inflicts a visible swelling below the right eye late in the round.
Round 2:
Jennifer gets more aggressive and tries to finally stick it into the singer's face - plenty of mean intentions in her efforts but she misses on most of her efforts and gets stuffed to the body as Una uses her experience to showcase the knuckles shouldn't only connect upstairs. Jennifer bounces off the top of her forehead and cuts a briefly worried figure which allows the redhead to maul her with more body shots and both women end up hugging the ropes where Metcalfe can finally clinch the Irish girl into safety. Then she bangs her in the stomach and drops more low harpoons on target to make Healy feel some heat for the first time tonight. The redhead's response is a classic standing headlock and she gets away with it drawing ire from Nicole Richie in the LAB corner.
Round 3:
More body shots in the third which actually allows Jennifer to catch some required flow before she stuns the Irish singer with a looping hook on the chin. Did that hurt? Una jumps into a slugging rally and she wants to knock the brunette's head off again but the rush of adrenaline leaves her exposed to a counter-punching response so Metcalfe duly kicks the door out and blasts the redhead from both flanks to cause physical damage once she connects with several clean hits. Uh-oh! Who needs bare knuckle experience then? Una develops a significant gash under the left eye as the slugging exchange goes the brunette's way and she wants more... Jennifer rallies around to blast Una's face as the singer's high-guard collapses before a quick uppercut shot sinks the Irish woman on jelly knees and she barely escapes a follow up heater but gets taunted by the LAB corner once the referee steps between the two hellcats at the bell.
Round 4:
Una drives in more body shots to resume the early command but Jennifer lets her have it over the top... and she cuts the redhead below the eye again which turns some heads around the arena. The Bradford actress continues to deliver the knuckle heat and even a veteran like Healy can't live with it for too long. One of the brunette's punches adds another cut across the nasal ridge and even Denise van Outen in the booth is surprised. Una's reputation is still rock solid but she shouldn't be getting brutalized like that even by Jenny Metcalfe of all people. But this is the reality here tonight as the Irish singer gets frozen to the spot and soaks up more facial misery with Jenny landing hard single shots and draining the energy bar hand over fist... quite literally! Una stumbles back to her corner at the bell where former bandmate Rochelle Humes can't quite understand what's going on either: "Just destroy that bytch! What are U waiting for?"
Round 5:
Una wants to cash in with anything at this stage but only experiences more trouble once Jennifer outworks her in vintage knuckle back & forth and this time she spills the Irish blood before a booming right hook tags the eye and sinks Healy into spasms. Ugh! Jennifer might have hurt her hand there given the facial reaction but she still delivers another left hand on the nose.. Una fish-tails and fails to react when another right punch nails her on the ear. Uh-oh!!! She half-spins to the side and Metcalfe SLAMS a right hook on the jaw to DROP THE SINGER DOWN ON HER SIDE amid a wild ovation from the crowd!!! Rochelle Humes is furious in the Double A corner as Una crawls around on all fours looking shaken and VERY much stirred here. The count is slow but not slow enough to rescue her from a very bitter defeat indeed. Yep, that's all she wrote... cue in a soft face-plant slide when the vertigo kicks in for good. KO5 Jennifer Metcalfe!!!
AFTER: Jennifer doesn't quite celebrate her victory as she tells Nicole Richie something might be wrong with her right hand so X-rays are required soon enough but then she picks up her phone and starts streaming live while taunting the fallen Irish singer who just lays on her back and tries to shake off the vertigo daze before it gets dark. It's anyone's guess where Una goes from here - probably more bare knuckles - and she will always find a spot on boxing cards around the Isles while Jennifer might have to postpone the idea of pulling Sophia Thomalla's tail until the Lookout! Atlantic crew examines that potential hand injury.
