Lily Aldridge vs Robyn Lawley

BEFORE: We're back on the Santa Monica pier itself for the Elite Eight match between local favorite Lily Aldridge and former welterweight champion Robyn Lawley. Talk about not getting any home court advantage for Lily who has to battle another opponent superior in size and the fact she needed seven rounds to put away newcomer Jennifer Atilemile suggests this is a genuine problem no matter how much experience you bring into the ring. The odds are stacked against Aldridge and the most popular bet is can she make it past the half-distance mark versus the hard-hitting 'Godzilla'?
Lily Aldridge wears a light blue bikini set & silver gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a custom ponytail. Robyn Lawley wears an orange & purple monokini & white gloves. Long brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds.
Rounds 1 & 2:
Robyn sets the early tone to drive in several single punches into Lily's face but she fails to actually apply that supreme welter power almost like she doesn't want to embarrass the local favorite right away. It makes no difference to Lily who tries to hold her own trading blows with the bigger model and she lands some quality licks to raise the noise around the pier but there's little chance she can actually deliver that one-two instant haymaker to bother Lawley on the long run. The tactical plan remains a work in progress and it's down to how much energy is Robyn willing to waste to ride out the favorite status. She keeps Aldridge busy during the first two rounds and knocks her around without causing too much damage which is still good news for the Lioness entourage.
Rounds 3 & 4:
Lily settles down to punish Robyn's body and keeps working the harpoon drill to force a visible reaction from the former welterweight champion. Robyn tries to smack one up the middle but suddenly Lily's footwork proves to be a difference maker and leaves the Aussie dominatrix slicing thin air in rather awkward fashion. Cue is some loud reactions from the fans who urge the local model to expand her slugging ideas and sure enough, Lily follows through to rattle her opponent's jugs before a rare uppercut combo finds the jaw. Ugh! Robyn is angry more than anything and she lets her frustration get the better of her down the stretch. Chasing Ashley Graham was the easy part and Lily just slips away from her grasp at every juncture before booming a left hook on the nose to close out the fourth. Woof. It's time for serious business...
Rounds 5 & 6:
...and the next couple of rounds prove to be a little too much for Lily who soaks up an improved leather rush that clearly indicates Lawley has kicked into the highest gear. It's still an honor for any lightweight to force such a reaction from the 'Godzilla' but can the Santa Monica native survive the ordeal? Even taking single punches on the chin threatens immediate demise and Aldridge's response will never make 'angry' Robyn blush at this stage so the fight turns into a proper exercise in stalking and who can outfox the other? Lily dances around on her toes like peak Odette Yustman but then still gets tracked down to the corner where she has to eat bullets carving lumps in her midriff. More of the same in the sixth, Lily ruffles the Aussie feathers early only to end up getting pounded back to the ropes where Lawley racks up the supreme numbers rather easily to leave little room for the judges if their services are actually required. Lily slumps on the turnbuckle at the bell and the ref has to pull the Aussie tourist away so one can imagine the writing is on the wall here...
Round 7:
Robyn fakes a low approach and booms one up the middle to open the seventh. Lily's endurance has deserted her after a brave effort against one of the hardest hitters in the league and she can only stop these punches with her face as Lawley continues to rain punches like skittles until she breaks Aldridge's resistance once and for all. Lily hits the numb button and wobbles forward with a whimper, Robyn takes her time to deliver the mercy shot but it eventually tags the ailing brunette square on the chin and sends her crashing hard on the pier boards amid an extended cry from the audience. A quick check from the ref and yeah, she is outta here. KO7 Robyn Lawley!!!
AFTER: Raw power has prevailed but some pundits are still surprised that Robyn needed seven rounds to put the lighter model away. It's not like Lily is anything more than a dangerous floater at this stage of her career but she can still duke it out with the world's best and rarely looks totally outclassed even in a losing effort. Then again, the Model Mayhem enters the semi-final stage without her presence and the Santa Monica fans have a solid consolation prize in Kate Upton instead!
