Intro:
Two women with a point to prove in the Diamond Boxing Tournament meet in its first round. Valery Kaufman wants to show her management team that she deserves a long term spot on their roster. Alice Goodwin meanwhile would love another shot at glory after being the bridesmaid all these years. They clash in the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

Before the bout the FCBA Networks Alicia Atout was able to chat to them both. First meeting Valery in the media area, Valery wore a red dress with black heels as she grins. When asked about her feelings on this tournament, Valery answers "I think I can win this whole thing. Over the past year I have been working on my fundamentals and fitness, I get stronger each day, I get better each day. These fighters won't know what hit them."

Alicia asks "I supposed Alice fits that too" with Valery chuckling. The Russian model says "Alice is a big titted idiot from.. I honestly don't know beyond England right, what dump produced her I have no clue. Still Alice will be the first woman to understand how far I have come."

Alicia had to find Alice in her locker room. The English fighter is getting her shoulders massaged by her new coach Natascha McElhone as she wears a white robe, hands are wrapped and she looks ahead. Alicia is waved to come in as she looks confused if she should walk in or let Alice concentrate.

"Alicia I have a few things to say, mostly about myself. For the past seven years I have underachieved. When I first stepped into a boxing ring I heard that I was the next Kelly Brook. Someone I respect... Not so much like. In those seven years I have beaten some great fighters, had some brawls I am proud of but.. what do I have to show for it? I lost to f**king Kira Kosarin last year, who was a bantamweight" Alice says looking upset with herself.

She takes a breath before she continues "I had to look in the mirror when I was asked to participate in this tournament. I said did I want this, to go through this marathon and happily I felt the fire in my belly. I want f**king titles, I want to show that Alice f**king Goodwin is someone you respect and I will start by knocking that string bean Russian out!" Alice's coach smiles as they know she means business, question is how much is in her tank to get to the promised land of the trophy.

Fighting time! First to emerge through the curtain is Valery with her coach. She has an ice cold look on her face as she walks down the aisle. Walking up the ring steps wearing a black sports bra with white trim, matching trunks and shoes, white gloves, while her hair is tied into a ponytail. She taps her gloves into her coaches fists to show she is ready.

Alice now walks down the ring with her trademark smirk. Natascha is at her left side as Alice pounds her white gloves together. Her robe is taken off to reveal a white sports bra, white short trunks and shoes, her hair is braided as she steps into the ring. Tapping her right glove onto her chest as she looks out to the crowd.

Fighters head to the center for the referees instructions. Both women intensely stare each other down. The touch of gloves between them isn't a friendly one with the crack of leather. Both return to their corners to get their gumshields in and a last second pep talk. The bell dings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.

Round 1:
Trading stiff jabs to start as Alice is looking to bring the pain early. Valery up on her toes moving around the English fighter. Alice though catches her with a left hook to the body before a right lands up top. Valery getting a taste of her opponents power as Alice is looking to drive her back right away. Muscling Kaufman back into the ropes.

Valery has to nudge back Alice to create space to work, landing a few straight punches back into the face of Goodman. A right cross catches Valery on her nose to make her tighten her guard up. Alice nudging her back to the ropes as she works the body and sneakily lands some punches into the jugs of her foe to make her groan.

Holding onto Alice to get the referee to step in. They are broken apart with Valery getting into space. Valery using her jab and moving around the outside part of the ring. Holding off Alice for the remaining time of the round. The bell rings with Kaufman banging her gloves together as she walks back to her corner. Alice meanwhile looking fired up with a point to prove.

Round 2:
Getting off the mark a little quicker. Valery doubling up her jab and moving around her smaller opponent trying to use her quickness. Alice dips down more to work the torso in reply, just missing with a few overhand shots.

A straight lands on the cheek of Alice before a left hook crashes on her jaw. Valery looking good now that she has space to work, along with her now landing more two and three punch combos compared to the single punches coming back her way. Forcing Alice to tighten her guard up.

A left hook does catch Valery on her cheek when Alice manages to cut part of the ring off. A straight lands on the chin of the taller woman to push her back. Alice has Valery pinned down till the bell dings. Valery looking better in the round but getting a reminder there how dangerous Alice can be if she lets her guard down.

Round 3:
Both women step out trading around the center of the ring. Alice digging away at the torso of Valery as she bends down. Getting caught around her head in reply by Valery. Near the end of the opening minute Alice catches Valery with a straight into her chest before landing a left uppercut to rock back the Femme Fight Club fighter.

Into a neutral corner goes Valery as Alice bullies her back. Several punches landing flush through the mitts of Kaufman till she can hold onto Goodman. Referee needed to push them apart as Alice pins back Valery to try to show her dominance in this position.

Alice is keeping Valery towards the ropes. Valery forced to fight hard to try to keep her smaller foe back. Alice landing a few hooks around her guard. soon enough the round ends with Alice tapping her gloves together as she marches back to her corner. Valery takes on some water as she looks annoyed by Alice roughing her up.

Round 4:
Again Alice is quick to look to rough up Valery. Using little nudges with her left forearm before throwing her right over the top. While Valery backs off and grabs hold of Alice when her back touches the ropes. Broken up with Kaufman away from the ropes. She stabs in several straight punches back into the face of Goodwin to keep the smaller woman back as they head into the second minute of the round.

Where a left hook crashes onto the chin of Valery. She soon finds herself again pinned to the ropes as Alice looks highly motivated to bring home the win. A few cuffing punches land around Alice's ears as Valery tries to fight her way off. Instead she has to hold Alice's right arm and swing her own to get the referees attention to step in to break them up.

Less then a minute to go; Valery is catching Alice coming in as the English fighter is getting a little over keen. Punches landing on the cheeks of Alice, while she lands a few solid body shots in reply. The round comes to a close with Valery being told to buck her ideas up here. Alice meanwhile getting sweat wiped down off her brow as her cheeks are marked up.

Round 5:
Back at it they go as Valery stands her ground a little more. Both trading till Valery steps back to make her opponent miss. A counter left crashes around the temple of Alice to make her take a backwards step. Valery looks keen to make amends for the last two rounds as she pounds with piston like shots the face of Alice. Who has to push Valery off her so she can get into space.

Punches are being exchanged at midrange but Valery is showing good movement and hand speed. A straight crashes onto the forehead of Goodwin to knock her head back. A left/right hook combo follows to knock her head around. Alice needing to dig her feet in and try to slug her way back into this.

Valery though is looking to be beaming with confidence as she creates new angles to strike through the more flat footed Alice's guard. A double jab lands before a right hook on her chin. The round ends with Kaufman raising her right arm in the air to show everyone she won that round. Alice meanwhile shakes her head in frustration. Her coach telling her she is still in the driver's seat.

Round 6:
Pushing off their stools to exchange around the middle of the ring. It seems like a weight has been lifted off Valery's shoulders as she is moving more freely and striking Alice with two and three punch combos. Alice is struggling to match the intensity coming her way as her cheeks are turning red from being smacked.

Alice lunges in with a right cross that finds air as Valery sees it a mile off. A left hook crashes onto the temple of Alice to wobble her legs. RIGHT HOOK INTO HER FACE SENDS HER TUMBLING DOWN ONTO HER BACK!

Looking up with the lights with a dazed look, Alice looks slightly in disbelief that she is down. 1....2....3... Valery is smiling as she stands in a neutral corner. 4....5....6... All the while Alice is groaning as she covers her eyes with her right glove. 7....8....9....10 the count is over as Alice couldn't beat it!

Winner Valery Kaufman KO Round 6

After:
Valery walks over to Alice and grinds her right boot into the chest of the fallen fighter. Alice groaning as Valery makes a statement at her expense. She is here looking to win the entire tournament and no one is going to stop her. Alice soon trying to push the foot off her chest to make Valery laugh at her.

The winner after having her fun walks over to her corner. Getting a hug from her coach before having a drink of water. The gloves come off next as Valery certainly didn't have this all her own way. Still she has the important win is all she cares about right now as she tells her coach "Alice is not going to be trouble for me after that." Showing she doesn't expect Alice to push her again in future.

Alice needs to be helped up to her corner. She asks to be helped out the ring as she can't stand some of the jeers of the crowd. As an English person know, Aussies and English people when it comes to sport clash. While Alice put in a good performance tonight, she is being told by some in the crowd that she is a loser as she is helped out the ring to the back, this certainly wasn't the first impression she wanted to make for her new stable. Still it's early days and Rome wasn't built in a day.

Valery either doesn't notice or care her opponent is gone. Instead she walks to the middle of the ring once she is ready to get her left arm raised in victory. The winner bows to the cameras and says "these other fighters don't realise I am better then them, they will by the end of this tournament." Winking before she walks to the ropes to leave the ring.

There are things Valery needs to improve upon if she is to prove a dark horse to win it all. The big thing is that she showed once she can get her rhthym going, it seems hard to knock her back out of it. Valery has her second career win and she looks confident this will be her tournament.
