BEFORE: The notorious Geordie singer turns four-oh next month but she refuses to be demoted into cougar division and claims she can still knock some youngsters out! However her tonight's opponent is someone actually older than her which raises several questions what is exactly on Cheryl Cole's mind going forward. She enjoyed mixed results when trying to rattle through the Hispanic singers in their 20s and there is no way Chezza goes down to Ariana Grande line to catch a cheap win. It's highly improbable Cole mounts another title campaign and she's not turning any heads by beating someone like Rashida Jones either! Like it or not, it's the Lioness Invitational card so house always wins the match-making hold 'em!
Cheryl Cole wears a leopard print bikini top, black hip-huggers & red gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a half-up ponytail. Rashinda Jones wears a white crop top, jeans shorts & brown gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1:
Quick striking from Rashida who surprises the singer with the early aggression and moves into a body assault galore which stuffs Cole in the center of the ring before she can land a meaningful series herself. Rashida might not be the most durable cougar out there but still shows plenty of determination blasting the fellow brunette from both flanks and even rising above a heated response over the top. Cheryl manages to stick a couple of hard shots on target but Jones stays in the slugging lane to thump the Geordie stunner back to the ropes where she drops more harpoon menace and leaves visible marks on the singer's toned abs. Ugh! Chezza has to clinch the raunchy cougar to run out the clock and that's not what the LCA entourage expected here at any point of the fight.
Round 2:
Rashida seeks more success thumping Cheryl to the body but the younger brunette neutralizes the danger this time and fires back from the inside before Jones can truly settle down in her attacks. A couple of heaters catch the actress on the chin and she wobbles off her stance thereafter which allows Cole to blast in some trademark slugs and bounce the veteran around the area. Rashida's footwork ain't that great which is perhaps to be expected while Cheryl shows off some dancing practice making the actress look even more sluggish down the stretch. Jones gets backed onto the ropes where she swings a quick series from behind the guard however she comes well short of repeating the body assault success and takes a hard cross hook on the nose to close out the round instead.
Round 3:
More of the same in the third, Cole's dominant agility makes all the difference while Jones struggles to make a meaningful impact from mid-range. She settles into landing a single-hand delivery and takes twice as much punishment when Cheryl unloads her aerial slugs with superior precision. Rashida realizes she's getting outboxed here and tries to ignite the swarming fire but she simply gets blasted with more leather from point-blank range and loses another tangle in the center of the ring before Cole tacks on a head-hunting series that drops Jones all the way on the turnbuckle where she disappears behind a tight earmuff come the final stretch.
Round 4:
Cheryl expands her slugging advantage but gets a little careless in the process and allows Rashida to flirt with more body shots before a heavy harpoon blast drills through the singer's navel and bends her into rare spasms. Ugh! Rashida digs in with a shoulder barge on the breasts and tackles the briefly stunned opponent to the body which secures her a dominant position again. She goes all-in trying to chop that midriff in half and backs Cheryl onto the ropes where she lays in more heat until the singer breaks down and TAKES A KNEE just past the two-minute mark. Ugh! More angry screams from the Lioness corner where coach Eva Mendes can't believe what is going on! Rashida yells back at her however Cheryl appears not to be hurting that much even when she delays the count to eight before getting up on her feet. Jones smells blood and goes for the kill... she's still not fast enough on her feet to catch the wounded prey and Cole does the smart thing of yielding real estate in a lost round. She hangs on for the bell with both fighters giving each other a proper bytch stare thereafter.
Round 5:
Rashida jumps in to finish the Geordie tourist off... and gets SMOKED by a left/right combo on the chin before Cheryl fires a left hook on the ear to DROP THE ACTRESS ON HER BACKSIDE literally seconds into the fifth! Woof! A huge turnaround derails Rashida's plans and she still looks a little hollow even when she beats the count at seven. Time to reload the system or just swing for the fences again? Rashida chooses the latter and wants to find immediate payback which only swamps her into a vicious vacuum of pain as Cheryl knocks her out of the ball park few seconds later blasting the fellow brunette's face into a swollen mess. A couple of bad cuts make Jones cry out her surrender but the referee has seen the writing on the wall a little sooner and STEPS IN to prevent more damage at the last moment. TKO5 Cheryl Cole in come-from-behind fashion!!!
AFTER: Cheryl still owns an impressive overall record but these fights are not getting any easier for her and she was somehow dropped for the count by a largely unproven veteran coming off three straight losses so the warning signs are right there to indicate the notorious singer is running on elite fumes for lack of a better word. She even doesn't brag about this victory too much while Eva Mendes prefers not to reveal any details of Cole's upcoming schedule: "We have something ready for the birthday feature but we might have to accept Plan B to manage some... ahem.. obstacles. Obviously tonight's fight was a challenge we didn't quite expect. Rashida isn't exactly elite level and maybe we've overlooked some of the wear & tear. It's not really a good time to talk about this so let's move on for now, shall we?"
