Sophie: 27 YO, 5’9 (1.75 m), 26-17-0, 26 KO since 2015, Foxfire Boxing

Before: Two young lightweights get ready to clash. Foxfire’s Sophie Turner has been in the FCBA since 2015 and compiled a decent over-all record.

“I was 3-2 last year, but those 2 losses were back to back at the end of the year,” admits Sophie Turner at the pre-fight. “So my first order of business in 2024 is to get back to winning. I wanted to fight Maya because I think she has a lot of talent and can give me a good showcase. Of course, I do have to actually win, but I am confident I am ready for her.

Maya listens to this coolly: “I not one to do a lot of bragging before a fight. I just want to say I respect Sophie, but I could use a win myself and I am here to get it. That’s about all I have to say.”

Sophie raises an eyebrow: “How refreshing.”

Maya manages a smile: “You’re welcome.”

In the ring, the two fighters removed their robes, and stood in their fighting attire. Maya is in a blue one piece swimsuit with matching gloves and boots. Her bobbed hair is loose but wetted down. Sophie dark green bikini with light green boots and gloves. Hair in battle braid. The referee on had with his instructions for the fight. That done there is tap of the gloves and the two go to their corners. The bell rings…

R1: Maya and Sophie out smoothly from their corners at the bell. They set up at center ring and trade quick opening shots. Maya taking a in-and-out approach, moving in with a flurry of punches and then pulling back ahead of Sophie’s counters. However Sophie seems to work out Maya’s timing and is able to catch her coming in with heavy punches before Maya can get in own blows. Maya then falls back to regroup. This signals Sophie to advance on the attack. Sophie working Maya hard in the body, then sneaking in surprise chin chuckers to flip Maya’s head back. Maya ducks away and comes back with a body attack of her own. Sophie and Maya punching torso, but Sophie gets the better of this, forcing Maya to give ground as the round ends. Close round, but Sophie Turner gets the narrow win.

R2: Out they come and Maya Hawke is moving quicker. She scores with digging hooks to Sophie’s belly that double her up with a loud “OOOOOOOFFFF!!” As Sophie totters back all bunched up and gasping for air, Maya hammers away at her to the head. Sophie now just trying to scramble away, but Maya is building on her follow up with pounding shots into Sophie’s side ribs. Sophie finally able to circle away for a few moments of recovery and she is ready to strike back with head punches of her own. However Maya goes after Sophie to the jaw with head turning rights and lefts. Sophie is retreating with her mitts up around her head as the round ends. Round goes to Maya Hawke wide.

R3: Sophie Turner tries to regain her momentum with a vigorous head and body attack early. Maya absorbing the punches and hitting back with head and body volleys of her own. Two are now circling and counter circling, trying to draw each other off balance, but still keeping up the steady punching. Staying even much of the way, but Maya able to shake Sophie a hard left/right combo to the chin. Sophie staggered, but recovers to throw up a protective barrage of jabs. Maya doing a good job of keeping her leather on Sophie to the bell. It likely helped her win the round close.

R4: Sophie Turner was again on the attack early. She crowded in on Maya, trying to pummel her hard to the chest and rib cage. Maya answered the challenge with counter punching that score against Sophie‘s rack and ribs. Just it looked like this was going to be a body bashing battle to the bell, Maya suddenly slammed an overhand right into Sophie’s face. Sophie recoiled and then Maya brought a left uppercut crashing in under Sophie’s chin. Sophie stumbled back and now Maya added a right/left combo to Sophie’s jaw. DOWN WENT SOPHIE TURNER! Sophie landed on her side and lay there momentarily stunned. Maya went immediately to the neutral corner and had to watch as Sophie dragged herself to her feet just as the referee was calling out ”NINE!” The fight resumed but Sophie just went all turtle on Maya, burying her face in her gloves and hunching her up her body to be less of a target. Thus Maya was unable to finish Sophie off, but she did have the first knockdown and won the round wide.

R5: Maya Hawke not concealing her eagerness to get back out there and finish off Sophie Turner. At the bell, Maya came forward fast and was swinging big rights and lefts Sophie’s head. Sophie was ducking and dodging these shots and using her jab to punish Maya in the head and face. Maya kept pressing forward but finally started circling, but Sophie was able to stay with her and keep ahead just enough to win the round by a narrow margin.

R6: Maya again comes out with determination and tries to punch Sophie back towards the ropes. Maya is mainly trying to get at Sophie to the jaw and chin, but Sophie is doing a good job of defending against these punches. Maya then drops down and it looks like she is about to spring upward with a right uppercut to Sophie’s jaw. Sophie sees this coming and smashes downward. Maya rises into Sophie’s punch. She instinctively tries to turn her head away but the punch catches her on the jaw. Maya is sent stumbling to one side until she crashes into the ropes. Dazed, she turns around and gets NAILED by success9ive uppercuts to the chin. DOWN GOES MAYA HAWKE! She hits the ropes and slides down into a sitting position, her chin on her collarbone, arms limp at her side. Sophie watches from the neutral corner as the referee counts Maya out. Maya trying to rise, but can’t get her legs to cooperate. She is still sitting there like a discarded doll as the referee calls out:

“EIGHT!...NINE!...TEN!...YER OUT!”

THE WINNER: SOPHIE TURNER DEFEATS MAYA HWKE KO6.

After: “I got my win, but I certainly had to work to get it,” a weary Sophie Turner tells the press after the fight. “Maya Hawke’s got a lot of talent. Mark my words, she’s in for a good career around here if she can keep this up.”

Maya Hawke comments (later): “That was nice of Sophie Turner to say, but I would rather have gotten the win instead of just coming close to getting it. Well, nothing to do now but get ready for whatever fight comes next.”

Entertaining clash of young lightweights who lived up to their billing. Maya Hawke and Sophie Turner both scored knockdowns, but Sophie Turner was able to come back from hers to get the win. FCBA Lightweight fans will be keeping their eyes on both in times to come.
