BEFORE:
"This girl might very well have the chops to succeed at welter," says Cassidy with a nod. "But, she's NOT going to succeed tonight."
"Cassidy is definitely a measuring stick," Kennedy says with a smile. "She's no walk in the park. She's a climb up a mountain. But, tonight, I'm GETTING to the top."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Lion's Mane' by Iron and Wine, and here comes former welterweight champion, Cassidy Freeman!"
McCarthy: "Not sure what Weirdo's been drinking, but this is a REAL fighter here, and he's got her in against a FRAUD!"
O'Dell: "Cassidy wasting no time getting down to the ring. She climbs in and is helped off with the robe, and Ms. Freeman's looking VERY good in that azure two-piece she's chosen..."
Oh, the shark, babe
Has such teeth, dear...
McCarthy: "FRAUD! She stole my song, my gimicktellectual probity!"
Cassie: "Your what now?"
McCarthy: "YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN!"
Tess: "I'm glad SHE does, because I don't have a CLUE..."
McCarthy: "I will SUE!"
O'Dell (sighing): "That song, of course, is 'Mack The Knife' by Bobby Darin, and that can only mean..."
McCarthy: "That I, MAC THE KNIFE, am coming to the ring! But it doesn't mean that because she's a fraud and he's a thief and I'm suing them ALL!"
O'Dell: "That Kennedy 'Mack The Knife' McMann is coming to the ring. And, if looks could kill the ones Mac and Kennedy are exchanging would get both of them jailed..."
McCarthy: "If she doesn't stop EYING me, I'm GOING UP THERE..."
O'Dell: "Now, calm DOWN, Mac! Kennedy into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal that lavender number we've seen before and the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Kennedy. Mac?"
McCarthy: "She's. A. Fraud! Cassidy!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "There's the bell. Ladies setting up at range and going to get their respective boxes on. Both have good length and like to extend on their punches. Freeman getting it going here, landing that long left and following on with solid right hands, throwing Kennedy to the defensive..."
McCarthy: "KNOCK HER OUT! KNOCK HER OUT!"
O'Dell: "McMann getting backed up here, as Freeman brings that power to bear. Cassidy firing on all cylinders early here, and she's got the younger woman on the back foot. Freeman stepping to, Kennedy giving ground. McMann not hurt, but she's definitely getting touched up..."
Tess: "This is not what the Front Street corner wants..."
O'Dell: "It most definitely is not. They don't want McMann in reverse here, but that's where Freeman has her as the older redhead puts punches together, lands hard shot in the final seconds of the opener. There's the bell, and it's not close. Freeman gets the points."
Cassie: "And takes the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins the way the first ended. Freeman getting that left hand on target, and following on with solid rights, backing up the younger woman with some serious power shots. Kennedy thrown to the back foot over and over again, spending way too much time covering up..."
McCarthy: "This FRAUD is getting run out of here and I LOVE it!"
O'Dell: "GOOD right hand by Freeman backs McMann up again. Kennedy getting squared up over and over again. Cassidy has the range and she's calling in the big guns and THERE'S A RIGHT HAND AND DOWN GOES MCMANN! Oh, what a straight right from Freeman!"
Cassie: "Clean shot, no doubt about it..."
O'Dell: "Cassidy to a neutral corner. McMann flat on her back. Count at three. Four. Five. Kennedy sitting up at six. Seven. Eight. To her feet at nine. Ref going to give her the mandatory...and wave on Freeman! Former champ letting the hands go now, backing the younger redhead into the ropes and letting her have it. Twenty seconds to go. Ref looking in closely as Freeman tries to finish. Ten seconds. McMann in a high guard going to ride this thing out. There's the bell! Huge round for Cassidy!"
Tess: "And, Freeman has the 20-17 lead, and, more importantly, she has McMann in DEEP trouble."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third begins with Cassidy working to finish while conducting a very effective clean up. She's stepping to McMann, backing her up with heavy fire. Kennedy's still buzzed, no doubt of that, and the older woman is taking full advantage, working the younger redhead over in a BIG way..."
Tess: "Kennedy just trying to ride this thing out at the moment."
O'Dell: "Definitely playing for time. Meanwhile, Freeman's emptying the magazines, sitting down on everything, looking to end this thing right now. McMann continuing to give ground, managing to stay off the ropes, but not much more than that at the moment."
Cassie: "Legs coming around, though. Starting to move better."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed. And, she's also able to counter in spots, but it's still, as it has been from the opening bell, Freeman who's in charge and getting much the better of things. Final seconds ticking off in the third. GOOD right hand from Cassidy, and there's the bell. No doubt again. Freeman and wide."
McCarthy: "And Cassidy now leads the FRAUD 30-26."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Freeman forward again to start the stanza. She's remaining aggressive here, as well she should, but McMann's now moving head, hands, feet, angling, slipping, blocking. Younger redhead doing a good job of avoiding the initial stick with that jab off of which Cassidy has been building her offense."
McCarthy: "She's running away, which is probably a good idea the way she's been getting her butt kicked!"
O'Dell: "Freeman staying after McMann. Kennedy fighting in the counter, mostly, and doing it pretty well. It's all about disrupting the older woman's rhythm as much as possible at the moment, and McMann's doing a pretty good job of it. The result has been our first two-way round of the bout."
Tess: "Give Freeman some serious props for conditioning here. She turned 40 this spring, but she's been after Kennedy for four rounds..."
O'Dell: "No doubt she's used up a ton of energy, but there's clearly plenty more in the tank. We're down under 15 seconds left in the fourth. Not a lot in it. Sharp exchange there as both redheads land a good right hand and there's the bell. Very close, but Kennedy's on the board."
Cassie: "But, Freeman still leads 39-36."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Same terms as we start the fifth. Freeman working forward behind the jab. McMann moving, angling, giving some ground with a drop step in spots, fighting in the counter. Good, two-way stuff now, but the problem for Kennedy is that Cassidy dominated the first three rounds and built a big lead..."
Cassie: "We always talk here about going down three. Well, Kennedy went down FOUR."
O'Dell: "Which doesn't leave her much of a margin for error and THERE'S A RIGHT HAND AND FREEMAN IS HURT! Cassidy's knees do a shimmy after a keyholed right hand counter and now McMann goes to the attack, banging away with both hands and driving the older woman into the ropes..."
McCarthy: "This home town ref had better not stop this!"
O'Dell: "McMann banging away upstairs, going down to hook some ribs, then right back up to split the gloves with a nice right hand. Freeman hanging on in a tight guard. Ref looking in, but Cassidy's going to make it to the bell. Final seconds tick off and there it is. Kennedy takes it wide."
Tess: "But, Freeman's still standing and still in the lead 48-46 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "McMann the one pushing the issue now as we start the sixth. Freeman in retreat, as the younger redhead keeps up a steady, accurate fire. No doubt, Kennedy wants to finish here, but she's not getting sloppy. Instead, she's staying sound, not giving her rival a chance to turn things around with a big counter..."
Tess: "Very important at this weight, when everything can change with one punch."
O'Dell: "And McMann clearly well aware of that. She's working hard, setting up punches, punishing Freeman mostly to the head but digging a little body here and there. Cassidy being suppressed. She's on the back foot, can't get anything going, still doesn't have the legs under her."
McCarthy: "Just burn down the clock here. She's still in the lead."
O'Dell: "That appears to be the plan. We're down under thirty seconds remaining in the round. GOOD combination by Kennedy and there's another. She's really piled up the points and punishment here, but she hasn't gotten Freeman out of there and she won't, at least in this round. There's the bell. Shutout, McMann."
Cassie: "And, Cassidy's lead has been cut to one, 57-56."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Seventh underway and Freeman seems to have shaken the worst of the damage now. She's holding her canvas and McMann's not going to keep pressing the issue. Instead, we're back to where we were in the fourth, with Cassidy looking to work forward behind the jab and Kennedy angling and moving..."
Cassie: "Freeman's got that jab working again."
O'Dell: "Definitely does, and McMann's working hard to slip it and, when she's able to do that, get to a spot and get off quickly and THERE'S A RIGHT HAND FROM KENNEDY AND DOWN GOES FREEMAN! Cassidy dropped to her right side by a NASTY straight right hand!"
McCarthy: "GET UP! GET UP!"
O'Dell: "Kennedy very quickly to a neutral corner. Freeman staring up at the referee. Count at three. Four. Five. Cassidy rolls to her belly at six. Seven. Pushes to hands and knees. Eight. Nine. TEN! Freeman is still on all fours as the count passes her by and it's OVER! And your winner by KO7 is Kennedy 'Mack The Knife' McMann!"
Tess: "Big win for Front Street at welter."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Kennedy McMann, and, Kennedy, no question a very tough fight..."
Kennedy (nodding): "Wouldn't have expected any less. Top 25 welter? Definitely as good as any fighter I've been in with. And the hardest hitter by a country mile. Had to dig deep and find a way back into the fight. And, I feel pretty good about being able to do that."
Tess: "I'm asking this question a lot tonight. Where are you going now? Light, welter, the beach, maybe?"
Kennedy: "I'm really interested in all three. Management, obviously, has some plans, so, we'll just see where it all goes!"
