BLONDE AMBITION @ THE ASYLUM: A NEW BEGINNING

BEFORE:

"Sure, it's disappointing," says Dianna with a shake of the head. "Obviously, I could have been a champion, but I never got the opportunities. Well, tonight, I get one, and I won't waste it."

"She may be right," says Olivia with a hint of a smile. "She might have been pretty good if she'd gotten fights up here. But, if she thinks she's getting her hand raised tonight, she's DEAD wrong."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'I'm Still Standing', but that's not Elton John who's singing, it's the lovely lady coming to the ring right now, Dianna Agron!"

McCarthy: "TYPICAL Dancing Hooker Opponent..."

Tess: "She DOES have FCBA wins..."

McCarthy: "A HUNDRED years ago!"

Cassie: "Back when YOU were in high school..."

McCarthy: "You LITTLE..."

O'Dell: "Now, calm DOWN, Mac and let's keep our eyes on the ring, where Dianna climbs in to be helped off with the robe. And, Ms. Agron's looking very, very fit in that hot pink two piece she's wearing. And, that's 'Good 4 U' you hear behind us, and here comes the singer of THAT tune, 'The Murrieta Mauler', Olivia Rodrigo!"

Cassie: "Rodrigo, of course, off to a great start in her career. She's already moved up to the fourth spot in the bantam pecking order at Front Street..."

O'Dell: "Olivia into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that marigold number she likes. And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Olivia. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Typical Dancing Hooker Opponent. Rodrigo."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "Unanimous in the first, and, Rodrigo, as usual, makes with the legs early. Brunette loves to move, and she's definitely got the athleticism to do it. Video on Agron definitely shows a girl who likes to attack early, and clearly the blonde knows that, because she's doing some recon right now..."

Cassie: "Uncle Wiz always says the first fighter you always have to scout is YOU..."

McCarthy: "That doesn't even make SENSE..."

O'Dell: "Olivia jabbing, circling, moving very well. Dianna not pressing the issue. Instead, the blonde works the jab, moves the feet, cuts the ring here and there and gets off when she can. She has a bit of reach here, but not a lot. Every little bit can help, though..."

Tess: "Agron moving very well herself, Jenny."

O'Dell: "Most definitely is. We're coming down the stretch in the first, and, there's been no lack of action, but, neither fighter has been all that busy with the hands. It's been a war of movement and that's the way it will stay right to the bell. Close, but Dianna grabs the points and the 10-9 lead."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second underway and the brunette getting it going now. This is what we've seen from Olivia time and again. She bounces on the toes, circles, jabs, stops to pop a quick combination, circles away again. It's all about quickness, all about athleticism, and you're seeing plenty of both right now..."

Tess: "Agron seeing MORE of both than she wants."

O'Dell: "No doubt about that. This is Olivia's game plan, and she's executing it to perfection. Dianna landing in counter here and there, but that's the best she can manage. It's the brunette who's getting the work done, taking the older woman to school here in a big way..."

McCarthy: "Agron's got to get back to moving here. She's too static right now."

O'Dell: "Down to twenty seconds remaining in what's been an excellent second round for the teenager. Rodrigo a quick combination that forces the blonde to cover up. Olivia circles away behind that jab and will leg out the round. It's Rodrigo and it's not close at all."

Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "More movement and aggression from Agron this stanza. She's stepping to behind that left, cutting off the brunette, bringing her to battle and getting very physical in there. Olivia forced to back and cover again and again as Dianna brings her power to bear."

McCarthy: "Nice adjustment from Agron."

O'Dell: "And, it's bearing quite a bit of fruit. She's got the brunette on the defensive now. Olivia wants space and can't get it. Meanwhile, the blonde is lining her up nicely, working solid right hands off the left jab, scoring in combination again and again as the brunette tries to find some open canvas."

Cassie: "Now it's not enough movement from Olivia."

O'Dell: "Down under thirty seconds remaining in the third. Agron a solid combination that backs up Rodrigo. Olivia slips away, gets back to working the jab. She's getting some space now as the final seconds run off, but it's much to late to matter in this round. There's the bell. Dianna. Wide."

Tess: "And Agron is back in the lead 29-28."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth begins with Olivia circling wider, using the drop step, working hard to frustrate Dianna as the blonde tries to cut the ring and create heavy exchanges. And, unlike in the last two rounds, both fighters are getting some of what they want in this stanza..."

Tess: "And, both scoring well when they do."

O'Dell: "Dianna finding ways to replicate what she managed in the third, cutting the ring, bringing Olivia to battle. At other times, though, Rodrigo's managing to get the space she wants, stay in open ocean, fight on the move, stop to pop, score quickly, and get out of dodge."

McCarthy: "Leaving us with a good, two-way round."

O'Dell: "And without a lot in it as we head into the final thirty seconds. Olivia lands a combination, ducks a rejoinder and circles away. Dianna working behind the jab. Rodrigo another quick flurry and Agron landes a right hand counter and there's the bell. Close. Olivia."

Cassie: "And, we're even again, this time at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Into the fifth and we're again seeing two-way stuff. It's all about terms right now, and who's getting what she wants. Blonde able to score well in set pieces, if you will, while Olivia's the one getting the better of things on the move, and both fighters are getting some of what they want."

Cassie: "One factor we haven't talked about. Dianna's 36 now. The longer this goes, you have to think it benefits Olivia..."

McCarthy: "Nothin' but a number, Scabbo! Nothin' but a number."

O'Dell: "And, the numbers that matter right now are the ones on the cards, and, at the moment, those are dead even. GOOD right hand OLIVIA! Rodrigo stops and pops and ROCKS Agron! Blonde covers up and Rodrigo lets the hands go! Agron staggered and DROPPED TO HER BACK!"

Tess: "NASTY right in there from Olivia!"

O'Dell: "Brunette quickly to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Dianna on her back, staring up at the ref. She rolls to her belly at six. Seven. Pushing to hands and knees. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! The blonde can't get off all fours and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'The Murrieta Mauler' Olivia Rodrigo!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Olivia Rodrigo, and, Olivia, she clearly wanted to get physical with you..."

Olivia (nodding): "Yeah. That was the fight plan, and we weren't surprised. She's not outboxing me, so she had to try to bang. Give her credit. She managed to get some stuff done. But, eventually, I was going to get her. And, I did."

Tess: "It's been a very good sophomore year in the FCBA for you. What's next?"

Olivia (smiling): "Well. We still have three months to go. I'll be looking to get back in the ring...or maybe on the sand. We'll see!"
