Evangeline Lilly vs Eliza Dushku

BEFORE:

Battle of brunette Hall of Famers is the latest installment in a long-standing rivalry, with Vangie having won the latest installment back in 2019. Eliza, who's been in a sort of semi-retirement the last several years, has only fought five times since, while Lilly's remained active at the age of 44 and is looking to rebound from a 1-3 2023.

"Vangie and I have danced many times before," says Eliza with a smile. "And, what's been proven over and over again is that I'm better than her. So, let's lace them up so I can prove it again."

"Eliza seems to forget what happened the last time," says Vangie with a smile of her own. "Not surprised, because she wasn't CONSCIOUS for it."

ROUND ONE:

Lilly taking a page from 2019. She's looking to walk Eliza down behind the left jab. Dushku trying to hold canvas here, just like she did back then, but, once again, Vangie too strong and accurate for that to happen. Instead, the younger woman's being forced backward again and again, ending up fighting both off the back foot and in counter, despite her best efforts. Dushku's never hurt, but she's taking a lot of heavy leather, as Lilly piles up points and punishment. Late round sees Eliza moving more, trying to get off square, and that adjustment bears some fruit. But, it's too late to matter in the opening frame, which goes to Lilly wide as Vangie grabs the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Dushku adjustment continues to make a difference. She's moving laterally, slipping Vangie's jab, avoiding the walkdown and getting to spots to get off in combination. Lilly's still scoring when she can get that left on and follow with right hands, but she's no longer controlling the fight. Instead, it's two-way stuff with both brunettes having their moments and neither able to take command. Both fighters land some solid shot, especially late in the round, when two very sharp exchanges send heads snapping back, but everyone ships the shell and stays afloat and it's close when the bell finally rings, close, but Eliza, who evens things at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Lilly pressing forward behind that left, looking to impose will on Eliza. Dushku continuing the lateral movement, blocking, slipping, firing back in combination and HURTING VANGIE WITH A RIGHT HAND! Lilly staggered by a straight right and Eliza going all in, reefing punches at the wobbling Canadian and DROPPING HER WITH A LEFT HOOK! Lilly down on her right side as Eliza bounces to a neutral corner. Vangie struggling to rise, manages to get to her feet at nine. Ref gives her the mandatory and ON COMES DUSHKU! Eliza driving all before her, trapping Lilly on the ropes and hammering away. Ref looking in closely, but Evangeline's sturdy legs hold her up to the bell. It's a huge round for Eliza, though, as she takes it 10-8 and leads 29-27 after three.

ROUND FOUR:

Dushku in command. Canadian is unsteady on her feet, and Eliza knows just how to take advantage of that. She's backing up Vangie with flurry after flurry of hard shot. Lilly staying on the defensive, keeping the guard high, countering here and there, playing for time, time the younger woman doesn't want to give her. Instead, Dushku's throwing in the reserves, sitting down on punches, looking to end the thing. But, Vangie's managing to frustrate those efforts, even when she's trapped on the ropes and taking mid-way through the round. By the final seconds, Lilly's firing back strongly, having shaken the worst of it. Eliza's got the round wide, though, and now leads 39-36.

ROUND FIVE:

Things back on an even keel. Lilly's got the legs under her and she's looking to work forward behind that jab again. Eliza trying to stay off square, working in counter, then finding spots to get off in combination. It's very good stuff from both fighters, as they demonstrate the skills that put them in the Hall of Fame. There's not much in it the entire way, as neither woman can get the terms she wants with any consistency. Instead, both score when they can, and, when you add it all up, it's very, very close, even after both veterans turn up the heat late, trying to steal the points. When the bell rings, Lilly's done just enough to win the round and cut her deficit to 48-46 at the half.

ROUND SIX:

More two-way action in the sixth as the second half of the battle begins the way the first half ended. Both fighters are looking for opportunities to land power blows now, strategically sitting down on punches, while remaining sound...BOOM! Right hand, VANGIE and Eliza is HURT! Younger brunette stumbles backward and nearly goes down and Lilly LETS THE HANDS GO! She's winging away at her rival and DROPPING HER WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND! Dushku flat on her back as Lilly heads to a neutral corner. Eliza rolls to her right side at six, tries to push to her feet, but SINKS BACK TO THE CANVAS AND IT'S OVER! Dushku can't beat the count and it's over and your winner by KO6 is Evangeline Lilly!

AFTER:

Lilly definitely looking like a girl who's been in a fight, but she's got a gorgeous smile for the interviewer. "It's never easy to win a fight in the FCBA, so, it's always great to get a win. It's even better against someone like Eliza, with the history we have. There's no doubt I'm closer to the end of my career than the beginning, but I might just have one more run left in me. Let's find out!"
