Robyn "Godzilla" Lawley vs Behati Prinsloo

Welterweight clash between Aussie and Dutch girl (by way of Namibia!). Prinsloo in the wilderness, unmanaged after stints with Girls Friday and Fates, looking to get attention in a big way and there may be no bigger way to draw attention that taking on Godzilla herself! And there is a sense that the giantess may be vulnerable - that record breaking 18-0 rampage through the division in 2022 suddenly feels a long long time ago.
“Look - I get that there was incredible hype around Robyn but that’s been kind of exposed” states Prinsloo matter of factly, “Not taking anything away - she’s a good fighter. Thing is … I’m a BETTER fighter Any stable looking to make a statement in the welters better be ringside for this one and bring a contract!”
Round 1: It’s one thing to see Robyn from a distance … it's another to be in that ring with her! There is an intimidation factor that is part of facing the tallest heaviest fighter in the FCBA and Behati is not immune! Blonde model is a fit five feet ten but looks like a skittish mouse in there with the 6’2” Robyn (well north of 170 pounds). Lawley able to back her up with jab and once her back hits the cables, pound the model’s guard with lefts and rights. Prinsloo doing good work defensively taking shots on forearms and shoulders but there is a pure impact factor here. Robyn takes the first easily.
Rounds 2-4: Prinsloo corner reminding her of the game plan - in one word - MOVEMENT! “... and don’t be afraid to lead with the right”. Prinsloo spends rounds circling counterclockwise, jabbing, not letting the big girl set, then abrupt stops, fire the lead right, and then dance off clockwise. Swift legs frustrating the ponderous Godzilla. She begins to reach, leaving herself open to counterpunching. Prinsloo putting on a clinic as she slats away round after round after round!
Round 5: Scrubby McGee livid with big girl lethargy, “Get rough wit’ dis goil, Robby, let her know yer out dere, fer cryin’ out loud!”. When Behati looks to circle perimeter, Lawley cuts off, stepping in front of lead foot and often taking a sharp shot from Prinsloo but the big girl willing to pay the toll to close ground. Once at close quarters, Prinsloo looks to clinch but there is no fighter active who is going to get the better of Godzilla in the clinch. Sheer size and strength is massive and the wrestling is wearing the blonde model down. Prinsloo hangin around Lawley nack, leaving big girl hands free to pound ribs and work occasional sneak uppercut to sternum or clip the chin. By end of round, Prinsloo looking shabby, drained, exhausted.
Round 6: In her corner, near spent Behati told, “Get off first! You HAVE to make this b*tch respect your punch or she’ll be on you all night. Now go out there and get your respect!” Fighters meet mid ring - Prinsloo with straight right that Lawley picks off with gloves. Lawley with country left hook, bashing shoulder and numbing that right arm. Exchange of lead rights both land but big Robyn with greater weight of shot. Shimmy in Behati’s knees and she is on hinky legs and Godzilla is on her! Bashing left right left combination - not the cleanest punching but sheer impact has Prinsloo tottering. Left to the ribs and brings it back up to kiss the jaw and Behati crumbles! At five she manages to get up to one knee but when she tries to rise she tumbles forward and ref waives it off.
Winner by knockout in round 6 - Rockin’ Robyn Lawley!
Post fight Lawley “Yes … I saw the comments by Tess Valmore … “Lawley has had a little tough time recently” .. and I can’t be angry. She’s right - plus us tall girls have to stick together. I have been off my game a little but been having great work in the gym … this was a nice tuneup … got some rounds in. Put the big names on notice - Godzilla is ready to roar again!” |
