Intro:
It is main event time! The final bout in this round of the Diamond Boxing Tournament sees Jesinta Campbell (1-1) try to get rid of the pain of losing her last tournament bout by beating one of the early contenders to win it all. Valery Kaufman (2-0) has started off with a perfect record. Record wise Valery might be seen as a bit of surprise being in the hunt but she will be looking to prove she deserves to be there.
Both posted videos as asked by the FCBA network sharing their thoughts going into the bout. Jesinta sits on her hotel room bed with her ACB welterweight title belt with its green strap and gold face plate sitting on her lap. She is wearing an emerald coloured dress and is bare foot.
"Losing to Alice (Goodwin) stung. Alice knows she isn't as good as me, she got lucky and someday if she has the guts to give me the rematch, I'll get even with you" says Jesinta with a glare. Clearly she isn't over that defeat by any stretch.
She then turns her attention to her next opponent, she says "as for you Valery, I hope you don't really believe you are going to win this all. You came into this tournament with just a single win and now you are strutting around as if you belong at this level. I am a champion, I know what it takes to be the best." She lifts up the title in her right hand to show it off to the camera to make her point crystal clear.
Valery meanwhile is sitting in front of a make up mirror doing her make up. She smiles as she stops to say "I want you guys to see what a winner looks like. I have had enough of people disrespecting me and now I am on a roll, those who doubted me can kiss my pert behind."
She puts her lipstick on the table as she adds "to Jesinta, I know you hold that belt like a safety blanket to tell yourself you are a great fighter. The reality is that you are good in Australia, this is a world tournament and you are out of your depth. Don't worry I'll make it short and sweet." Blowing a kiss to the camera.
Fight Night in Monaco's Casino De Monte-Carlo. Jesinta is first out with coach Nikki Visser behind her. She is wearing a green robe with "ACB champion" in gold letters on the back. The robe comes off before she jogs up the ring steps and gets inside the ring. Jesinta is wearing a green sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks and shoes, green gloves with gold thumbs, her hair is tied into a ponytail. Jesinta fist bumps Nikki before getting into her warm up routine.
Valery now begins her walk to the ring with coach behind her. She looks confident as she smirks before getting into the ring. Valery is wearing a red sports bra with black trim, matching trunks and shoes, black gloves with her hair tied into a ponytail to finish her look. She bounces on her toes looking relaxed as she stares across the ring at Jesinta.
The fighters jog to the middle of the ring for the final face off. They stare each other down with neither blinking. They bump gloves with their opponent in a not so loving touch. Jogging back to their corners as they are keen to get started. The bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
"Ding!" Both women come out exchanging stiff jabs to start. Valery is up on her toes looking to circle to the left of Jesinta. The ACB champion shows her experience to stab a straight into the chest of Valery before landing a left hook to her cheek.
Valery trying to hold off Jesinta as the Aussie steps after her with straight shots through her mitts. Valery gets pinned down onto the ropes as Jesinta swings in short hooks around her guard. Valery needing to grab hold of Campbell to slow her down.
After they are split up. Valery is being herded around the perimeter of the ring. Jesinta outworking the Russian fighter as they trade. Valery covering up more tightly after taking a few solid shots to her face. The round comes to an end with Jesinta marching back to her corner looking in the mood to prove a point here.
Round 2:
Valery nods to her coach before the bell rings. She is starting to move her upper body more to dodge and land straight shots into the face of Jesinta. Who is landing a few more solid body shots as she looks to adapt to the changing tactics of her opponent.
A straight catches Jesinta on her nose when her left dips down too much. Valery is starting to land more combos as she moves around Jesinta. The champion looking frustrated as her cheeks are getting peppered and she isn't landing many clean punches in return.
The mood of Campbell gets worse after eating an uppercut that pushes her to her heels. Valery smacking her back to the ropes. Jesinta shelling up till the round comes to an end. Valery smirking as she sees the annoyed expression on the face of her rival. Jesinta bumps Valery with her right shoulder as she passes her to go to her corner.
Round 3:
Back and forth they go early on as they try to land a big shot to grab control. Jesinta lands a crisp double jab into the lips of her foe. Valery takes a step back and catches Jesinta coming with a looping right hook to turn her head. They end up in close exchanging till they are clinched up and Jesinta walks Valery to the ropes.
The referee breaks them up as they are in the second minute of the round. Jesinta is the one to land the first truly meaningful shot of the round with a straight into the face of Valery that is followed by a clubbing left onto her ear. Valery finds herself on the back foot as Campbell looks to walk her down and pin her into a corner.
Valery does a good job not getting pinned down with some good movement but she isn't landing much to stop the charge forwards of Jesinta. Who is drilling in some nice punches square into the face and torso of Valery to make her grit her gumshield. The round comes to an end with Valery showing some of her own emotions right now by cursing under her breath in her native language. Jesinta staring hard at her from her stool as both know the importance of a victory here.
Round 4:
Slinging out more piston like punches. Again it is a closely fought start to proceedings as they try to land a big shot that just doesn't land clean. Valery slips a jab to land one of her own on the lips of her opponent, that's followed by a left/right hook into the ribs of Jesinta to make her grunt.
Valery is able to move around Jesinta landing some crisp two punch combos. Jesinta managed to push her off balance and into the ropes, where she works her over the flanks till Kaufman can grab hold of her in a clinch. They are pushed apart with Valery getting into space. When Jesinta tries to come off the blocks to get at Valery, she looks a little silly as her left hook finds thin air as Valery dances out of range.
Final moments of the round, Jesinta takes a straight on her chin to knock her head back. She ends up being knocked into her own corner as Valery starts to swarm her. Covering up as Kaufman switches targets. The bell rings with Jesinta pushing Valery back. While the referee steps in, Valery just smirks as she feels she is getting under the skin of her opponent.
Round 5:
Resuming around the middle of the ring. Jesinta is trying to keep Valery under wraps but is missing now more then she did in previous rounds. An uppercut catches her to push her onto her heels. VALERY DOESN'T LET THE CHANCE GO AS SHE WHACKS IN A LOOPING LEFT HOOK THAT MAKES JESINTA STUMBLE TO THE SIDE! A RIGHT HOOK ON THE CHIN SENDS JESINTA ONTO HER BACK!
Valery flexes her arms as she walks to the neutral corner grinning. 1....2....3....4... Jesinta trying to sit up. 5....6... Grabbing the middle rope with her left glove to try to drag herself up. 7.....8... Jesinta gets up to her left foot but she stumbles down to her right knee and nearly over if not for the rope. 9....10 she is knocked loopy and is counted out!
Winner Valery Kaufman KO Round 5
After:
Another big victory for Valery as the Cinderella story looks like it has legs to it. Valery moving from a negative record to now a positive one after another victory. She looks to the heavens and raises her arms in the air as the momentum is behind her after three straight wins in this tournament to keep her in the hunt for the title.
All the while Jesinta is helped over to her stool to sit. She looks humiliated as she spits out her gumshield, head down as she slips off her gloves. Nikki reminding her that she is a champion and should be proud of herself no matter the result. Even claiming that Valery was lucky tonight to try to console her fighter.
Of course Valery has to rub it in as she heads to the center of the ring and yells "you're a joke of a champion! I am the real deal!" Hands on her hips as Jesinta looks up with a death stare that would put someone in the ground. Valery laughing before she returns to her corner to be cleaned up.
Out the ring with help from Nikki goes Jesinta. Her hopes for winning the tournament look dead in the water if she is honest. Now it has to be about using each fight to improve her ranking and showing that she is a worthy champion and one to lead the ACB.
In the ring after drinking water and getting washed down, Valery heads to the center of the ring. Getting her right hand raised in victory, Valery is certainly showing some doubters she can be a force in the division when giving a push behind her. She blows a kiss with her left hand to the camera.
She soon steps out the ring knowing the tests are only going to get tougher, with fights with the other two undefeated fighters Antje Utgaard and Bridgette Satterlee down the line, surely even a win over one puts her into the elite argument, a win over both and winning the tournament has to make the no hoper to some into a legit title contender! |
