Ili Cheng vs Sienna Miller

Sixty-five wins in twenty years of history, and a Hall-of-Famer to boot. 5’5, maybe a little more in boots. She was forty-three, aye, but still. Harumi was that age and getting a title fight tonight, and she’s none of those things. Miller was strong, and showed naught of the signs of age that so often followed swiftly behind. Her blonde hair remained blonde and her toned body remained pale. She stood at the opposite corner in a sporty two-piece, gloved and springy and waiting to pounce as if she could already envision Ili on all fours, spitting out her gumshield in submission.

She could only hope to prove her wrong.

R1: Ili was cautious at the start of the fight, wary of the power Miller had in stock. Defense was the wise and chosen way for the smaller girl in the first round; it was wise because it worked, walling the former champion off from her valuable targets while throwing counterpunches of her own as Sienna’s attacks whiff, thereby letting her take the round by a small margin.

R2: Defense did not work forever, though. Her original plan of attrition was quickly derailed in the second round by an observant Sienna, who, by the end of the first minute, had figured Ili’s defense out enough that it was beginning to crack. Sienna’s range was greater than Ili’s, but Ili managed to close in and give her a hard time even if range was negatively correlated with damage taken. Her power was not to be scoffed at, though, and Ili had the face to show for it. The round went to Sienna by a thin margin.

R3: In round three it became clear how much Sienna was riding on the wave of her reputation as the Taiwanese girl began to take her apart. The older woman was flagging after expending too much energy bruising the other girl’s face and being forced to slug in the last round. Perhaps thinking that their girl might lose, Sienna’s corner starts shouting praise for the mainland at Ili. Props for their idea to wage a mental war, but all it earned was a look of mild annoyance from Ili, who took the round by a small margin, at the end of the round.

R4: Sienna clawed her way back into the game. With her guard up, she stamped out straight rights and lefts with a hammer-drop delivery, steadily backing the challenger to the ropes. With ever increasing strength as that of a tidal wave, she pressed Ili into the strands with the left shoulder, jostling her, then pumping her fists into a pale and throbbing abdomen as the other girl tried to wrap up around her rival's head with hooks. What tension! A lot was taken out of challenger’s midriff; Ili was barely hanging on by the bell.

R5: Confident of another win, Sienna saunters into the fifth round with a spring in her step. Her fist lashed out with a predictable overhand, whizzing just over a shoulder as Cheng tilted to the side with a counter straight to the heart. Sienna gagged as her heart hopped over a beat, her heaving torso caving around the fist. The blonde mewled as she floundered a half step sideways, flinging back shot to keep the Asian girl at bay, yet again the brunette slipped past, polishing her off in a mist of exploding sweat. The blonde fell back, her knees buckling inward as the combination spilled her over the ropes.

The mat quaked with heavy steps as she wobbled away, drunkenly stamping back from the center of the ring. Ili followed, dodged another looping overhand, then slid forward and dribbled her skull with heavy hooks that sent her teetering into the ropes, drifting into a twisting side-hook that exploded against her cheek and snapped her neck sideways. Her crippled frame convulsed for a half-second before spilling into a heap across the base of the ropes.

“One! Two…” the referee’s eyes widened, and the numbers trailed off into silence. “She’s out!"

Winner: Ili Cheng via KO5!
