BEFORE:
It’s the first fight of 2024 for Kat Winnick and the third for Brie Larson, with both actresses having met once before back in 2019. It’s been a long-time coming, this rematch, with Winnick vowing revenge during the pre-fight press conference earlier:

“We fought one hell of a battle four years ago. Brie may have won that fight, but I remember she almost went down several times, and DID go down once.” Winnick says with a firm smile from the press table, before continuing. “We’ve followed different trajectories since then but one thing’s for sure: I’ve fought the busier schedule, and faced top quality opponents. I can’t say the same for Brie. Tonight is all about redemption for me. I know I’m still the underdog tonight, Brie still has size and youth on her side, but these things never stopped me before, and they aren’t stopping me tonight.”

Larson is known for her Hollywood roles in the Marvel’s cinematic universe, but more so, also known for her laissez-faire attitude and slightly grating non-filter that has upset her co-stars in the past. Here, she’s channeling that same attitude as she listens to Winnick first but clearly twisting her lips at her own displeasure.

“We already KNOW who the better blonde is, Kat. You’re staring at her. Could have, should have, would have. If you’d have won four years ago, we wouldn’t be having this exchange. And now? You’re almost 50 for god’s sake....why not stick to cougar fights? I WANT to say you gave me hell for seven rounds back then, but it’s really the truth. And I don’t lie, as you guys know. I like to tell it straight. So here’s the rub: I’m gonna beat Kat again tonight. And if she wants more, I’ll do it again. And again. And again.”

Them’s fighting words indeed, and Winnick has her own telling scowl on her face when the two actresses stride up to each other for the official staredown moments later. They turn their chins upwards, trying to intimidate the other. Already, it’s telling how Miss Larson secured the win last time, those three inches on Kat giving her a firm advantage back then. They raise their fists forwards, no one speaking another word, before turning front to face the cameras.

No shake of the hand, of course, and such is the case as well when they climb into the ring a day later. Winnick’s dressed in her usual white sports bra and short tights, lined with black accents, she’s wearing white gloves and her blonde hair is tied up into a neat ponytail. Across the ring, Brie has gone for a dark blue sports bra and black tights, showing off her toned figure. Her own blonde hair has been single-braided out back, and she’s wearing a black pair of gloves.

The referee gets the nod from both fighters, and with a wave of the hand, HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!

ROUND 1:
Girls square off and both have come a long way since their fight four years ago. They clearly remember the impact of their punches back then, and so they circle rather than stride straight forward, first testing each other with jabs from afar. Brie the more confident fighter, having received a bigger push lately. She’s harassing Winnick with steady combos, left-right jab-cross numbers bashing into the arms, reminding Winnick of her own troubles trying to close distance back before. Kat’s greatest asset is her patience, though, and yes, she may be bleeding points here in this opening round, but she doesn’t look too troubled whenever a fist connects with her temple or is jammed into her body. Her guard remains firm in front of her face, hiding away her more vulnerable body parts and biding her time. Larson not giving a f*ck about strategy, by contrast, keeps pounding away with her punches to the bell, silently judging the Doll’s lack of fire and firepower all the way across the finish line. Wide round to the Lookout! starlet, who raises a glove to acknowledge the cheers, before heading back to her corner.

ROUND 2:
Kat’s corner knows better than to berate her for her so-called “poor” performance. As we said, the Doll has been a bulwark against other foes in the past who have underestimated her, and tried to take her out early. Brie comes forward once more, even more aggressively cutting off the ring, intending to end this fight in even more record fashion compared to her KO7 win four years ago. Now, she’s picking up the pace of her combos, left-left tapping at the guard, trying to circumvent her arms and poke the eye or chin. But that’s quickly followed up by a swooping right hook that keeps ramming itself into Kat’s body. But it’s all part of Kat’s plan - she braces herself after that last hook lands, negating most of the damage. Then, slowly, she begins to bite back: throwing her own tight counter-swings back into Larson’s face, shocking her to the side each time. Brie doesn’t realize she’s being hurt on aggregate till it’s too late, retreats several steps whilst shaking the pain from her throbbing face, vowing to take her revenge in the next.

ROUND 3:
Brie storms in again and tries to force an early outcome! Even Kat’s patience might be wearing thin as she keeps getting harangued near the ropes, and despite her constant foot movement to the left and right, skirting the ropes, Brie stays on top of her, pounding shots off any parchment of flesh she can stick those gloves in! After a good minute of getting chased around, Kat’s HAD enough, suddenly roaring forward herself, looking to meet Brie’s charge head-on! But no! Larson ain’t having it either! She easily dips and swerves around a haymaker sent for her head, before planting return shots back into the Doll’s chin and cheek, having anticipated her wild counter-attack! Not looking good for Winnick, as a result, as she takes another snap uppercut down the middle to drive the air from her lungs but then another smacks into the base of her chin, sending her stumbling dangerously close to the canvas. Brie PRESSES in, looking to smother the shorter girl against the ropes, go to work on her frame some more. But Kat manages to hang on with a firm wrap-up with her foe, breathing hard on Larson’s shoulder and neck, and keeping her grip firm so that she can take a breather. Bell rings soon after and the referee has to force the separation. Largson has won the biggest round so far, and she pumps her fists in delight, keeps shouting for Winnick to give up, throw in the towel, on her way back to her corner!

ROUND 4:
Winnick looks pissed, which is a rare occurrence on its own. She moves in and looks to avenge her previous performance, immediately lighting up Larson’s guard and putting her on notice. Brie looks surprised for a moment, her face getting hit by several unexpected shots. Perhaps she’s thinking Kat should have LONG gone down by now. But Winnick’s being methodical, snapping that head back after throwing feints to the body and other side of her head, forcing Brie to raise her gloves or lower them in reaction shots, only to get pummelled to the other side by a big cross. So far, Kat’s in control, but even she has to swerve out of the way when Larson tries to regain the round suddenly, rushing in with her head down and fists close to her chest, taking wild swings towards the Doll. But Winnick maintains her distance and cool, swerving back just in the nick of time and continuing to plant leather into the American blonde’s face. Only towards the end of the round do both girl CLASH in the center of the ropes, Winnick thinking it might be time to push in but Brie not giving ground, both girls banging hooks off each other’s bodies and arms, bodies and arms, till the bell rings and the referee has to walk in to separate them.

ROUND 5:
A slower start to the fifth, as both girls want to catch their breath but also brawl in close. Larson can’t make up her mind, taking several steps forward before launching powerful crosses and overhands to remind Winnick of her strength. But Winnick’s still too fresh to get caught like that, easily keeping her head moving, her feet skirting sideways to keep herself from getting pinned in one place. Slowly, Winnick’s pushing the eager blonde back, shoving her face from side to side, and looks set to bring her to the brink of the ropes itself… ONLY LARSON IS FIGHTING BACK, snarling and shaking her head, POWERS a right hook of her own across the Doll’s face to stun her back! OUCH! Both girls GO AT IT again, each turning their hips and shoulders into each massive punch, trying to see who wants it more! Winnick’s getting the WORST of it, struggles to stay steady after taking another hard swipe across the temple! She tries to fend off a hungry Larson but eats another left-right thump-thump to the bod, before a final hook across the chin SENDS HER DOWN! Ouch!! Kat Winnick FLOORED down to her side, still looking shellshocked as she props her upper body up with wavering arms! It’s a KNOCKDOWN for Brie Larson, and could this be it?!

Larson pounding her chest, heaving, but face lit up in a knowing grin. She’s seen this scene before, folks, and might be moments away from securing an earlier win this time! Winnick, however, is slowly spoiling her party, pushing herself up one foot at a time, then holding onto the ropes to make it the other half of the way back by the count of 8. She looks shaken, but just needs a moment to steady herself, before the bell rings to continue.

HERE BRIE COMES, murder in her eyes! She straight off resumes the pounding on Winnick once the bell re-rings, making a beeline for Kat near the ropes. But the Dollhouse blonde is still moving and shaking, protecting her head at all costs but of course her tummy taking a spanking of under-hooks left and right. Winnick’s seasoned enough to know how to brace and cover, however, and runs for the last minute of this round to live and fight another day. Brie looks disappointed when the bell finally rings, though she should take heart that it’s only the first half of this fight concluded and she’s already well ahead on the scorecards.

ROUND 6:
Larson thinks she’s got this in the bag, but takes a stuffing fist to the cheek when her guard got complacent, pushing her head back with a grunt. Winnick’s still laser-focused here, waiting for the big blonde to make a wrong move before shocking her back with counter-jabs and crosses. Brie keeps getting tagged out of surprise, soon shaking her head and looking slightly stumbly after another one-two combination snaps into her nose and lips! SHE LOOKS DAZED all of a sudden, Larson taking steps back and suddenly trying to cover up! Winnick’s still being methodical, walking in cautiously but also keeping up the pressure, constantly shoving her gloves up and down, to the left and right, trying to circumvent and beat her defenses! It works! Larson falls for another feint to the left before a beaut of a haymaker sails in from the other end - KAPOW! Her face is thrown to the side, the rest of her body following! OUCH! She goes stumbling for a couple of steps, mouth open and groaning, before LOSING HER BALANCE and COLLAPSING to all fours by the ropes! Just like that! It’s a return KNOCKDOWN for Kat Winnick!

More muted celebration here as Kat simply raises one of her fists slightly before immediately heading to the neutral corner to rest. She knows someone like Larson ain’t gonna go down so easily, and already, Brie is seen testing her limbs, one by one trying to push her way back up to beat the referee’s count. Ref’s doing his own job, shouting numbers from the side, asking Larson for repeated confirmation that she wants to continue fighting. Hell yes, obviously, as Brie has her eyes back and set on Kat across the ring.

There’s a minute left on the clock for this one as well, and so far, it’s anyone’s game! Bell rings again and Winnick slowly advances. She ain’t in no hurry, not after what happened last time! Larson herself sticks to the ropes and far end of the ring, looking slightly more wary now that she’s gotten a taste of her own of her foe’s power. But she doesn’t have much respite for long, as Winnick closes the distance fast, immediately goes to work with her fists, thudding them off Larson’s abs before working that deflating guard by the second, her heavy hooks pounding and pounding away! Larson’s in trouble, groaning behind her gloves and already those arms look tired and getting pushed out of the way. Kat manages to connect with a double-whammy: a left hand to the side of her head to daze Brie, before another follow-up right connects the other way, splaying her 180 degrees into the ropes, that pretty head of hers swiveling painfully to one side! OUCH again! Larson looks shattered but STILL refuses to go down, but all she can do at this point is stand astride those long legs, both her hands and arms however uselessly clinging onto the top ropes for support! THAT’S IT! The referee clearly thinks it’s OVER! He jumps in and separates the pair! That means Winnick takes the rematch win via TKO!

AFTER:
WHAT A BATTLE! Brie trying to protest at the bell, but even then her entire body is straining against the ropes, her head rocking back and forth, her words slightly slurred, claiming to the ref, “f*ck, I wasn’t done!” But it’s all too late. After a couple more seconds, Larson herself sinks down to her knees, grateful for the chance to finally rest.

Winnick, meanwhile, not fairing much better herself despite being the winner, the 46 year old looking completely exhausted as she celebrates in her corner together with her ecstatic team, receiving hearty pats on the back and high fives, Katheryn thanking her team for preparing her well for her first bout of 2024. And what a bout it was! She gave the taller younger blonde a run for her money, and then some! The Dollhouse top cougar getting her arm raised by the ref in center ring seconds later to loud cheers and a standing ovation from both her own fans and Larson’s fans. These two have put on a spectacular show tonight and the fans know it!

“Tonight was one hell of a slobberknocker in there. I knew it was going to be, and I’m really happy I was able to get the win. However, I know things aren’t FULLY settled. We’ve got a win each now, and if I know Brie, she’d want to go for the rubber match at some point. I’m game. She thought she could bully me in there tonight, but she ended up eating her words,” Winnick later tells reporters with a grin. “Anytime, anywhere Brie!.”
