Maria Ozawa vs Yvette Monreal

Ozawa’s most successful showings in this match had all come in the opening trade of each round, well before Monreal could pull her into the mud, which she did in the first three rounds.

The fifth was no different. Ozawa slid left, then right, then left again, dancing with Monreal, who struggle to nail her down. In an overextension, Yvette lost balance and ate a shot straight to the gut as she craned forward, folding over as Ozawa followed through and spiked a few more into her flesh. Yvette barely had time to blink before a blinding right uppercut swept through her guard and into her chin, liquifying her brains and bodily integrity, leaving her in a mess on her back.

1… 2… 3… Yvette rolled onto her stomach, arms clawing at the canvas as her face remained buried against the mat in shock and pain and dizziness. Ozawa looked down at her disdainfully.

4… 5… She inched her way to the bottom rope and had pulled herself to the middle rope before the pulsing in her temple stopped her advances. She had to stop to try to stop the ringing in her head.

6… 7… Monreal pushed forward again, and, despite her expression, managed to rise to unsteady feet.

“Fight!" declared the referee. Maria quickly slid back into action, diving forward with a straight jab at the unsteady woman. Monreal was able to dodge, but sloshed overboard and fell even without Maria’s fist making contact. Seeing this, the referee called off the match.

Winner: Maria Ozawa via TKO5!
