Writing: OddManOut & The Dollhouse

Before: Premiere flyweight hookup on a card full of them.

Maddie: "I started the year with two really disappointing losses and so tonight is pretty much a must-win for me. I know I'm good enough to climb back into the top 10 and hopefully get my first title shot before the end of this year. I did pretty good against Olivia last year, and her last fight was 4 months ago, losing to Avril, who actually gave me some tips for tonight. I see myself as the favorite to win tonight and hopefully a win will get me back on track for the rest of the year. Literally can't wait to start."

Olivia dismissive in prefight, "You can only be a promising ingenue so long, after that, you're punching meat. Maddie's game, but she's been taught how to lose – I’m too hungry for her."

Fight time rolls around and Maddie is warming up in one corner of the ring, electric blue sports bra, a pair of long white tights hugging her lower curves, blue boxing gloves and her blonde hair in a bun. Holt in her black high-waisted bikini, matching gloves, hair up in a battle-bun.

R1: Olivia chop-thrusting the jab, then she’ll double up the jab or swipe a hook off it. Holt with a nice way of turning her shoulders with the hook, closing up her stance and crouching to the right, smoothly rotating her torso low and to the left to reset. ‘Livy keeping the right at her chin, elbow in—she’ll lick uppercuts with it out of the crouch or sting it straight up the middle, putting hooks on top. Maddie feeling the power early, stung a hook on the temple in the first minute, eating a right hand/hook combo to the head in the second minute, Ziegler soaking up wallop, takingh a great shot in a Holt first.

R2: Maddie takes her lecture in the corner, comes out more efficient, no nonsense, Right hand almost cupping her temple, left at her chin, elbows in as she steps forward. Jab sometimes pawing, sometimes stabbing, but constantly featured—not as dramatic or elegant as Olivia’s but disruptive in its own right. Ziegler slanting the right hand down into Holt’s body or leaning in to jam it short to jaw—she buzzes blonde legs late with tangy right-left off the jaw, pulling even on the cards.

R3: Maddie comes out hunting, but Olivia’s jab is back in the game. Zeigler all high-energy, desperately trying to get more Holt, hurt her some more but she’s shut out from inside access. ‘Livy using her jab to prevent Maddie from following up, while she’s slowly recovering. Not much action from either: Zeigler isn’t allowed to, Holt still in the business of trying to collect herself. Maddie unhurt by Olivia’s effective left but frustrated that she can’t begin her grinding work from their last fight.

R4: Olivia stooping, spotting jabs to body, then head: she slowly dominates the airspace as Maddie's jab can't get off. Minute mark: LEFT HOOK/RIGHT HAND HOLT! Sudden shock as ‘Livy steps in, gets off rapid-fire: Maddie stunned, reels to ropes shook. Holt steps-to: chin tucked, eyes bright, dukes at cheeks, series of pounding jabs, forcing Zeigler to form crouching peek-a-boo shell. Wide, palm-down right swings into flank, taking Maddie loud in behind the elbow, above left hip. Dip and rip left uppercut from there, picking Zeigler up sharp. Staying over to her left, Holt bobs, snatches the left uppercut to winter-white midsection: expensive tummy quivering with spank. Maddie grimacing, hurt, but combative: she claws back a tight hook off the ropes, skidding scalp; ‘Livy hooks tummy again; shifts weight to right foot, shifts torso to right side. Holt hooking, Maddie hooks-with: blondes feral, lips curled off teeth, Zeigler fighting desperately to deny Holt's finishing run. Expensive trade in savage right crosses/left uppercuts hurts Maddie, but convinces Olivia to back off, frowning with concentration. Zeigler off the ropes, reorganizing dukes at cheeks: she's operating behind her jab, regaining professional form. Pounding back and forth stick - girls shelling each other broadsides, right heels up off canvas, feet wide apart. Bell: Maddie visibly shaken, but defiant, thrusting out her chin and chirping: "Couldn't drop me ‘Livy!" holt glaring, knows it's true.

R5 : Maddie steps up the pressure - spearing in the jab to Olivia's upperchest, driving fight to ropes early. Half-way mark - Zeigler ducks in close, weaves to the right, jerks a short, muscular right hand up under Holt's heart: sob of pain as blonde’s knees give way, sagging her onto the canvas. Olivia pullles herself up by the ropes, ref waves Maddie in.

Zeigler heartless, bangs that body right/left, then she's upstairs with the hook, turning it over palm-down to chin. Holt stunned, trying to push back leather in a panic to get Maddie off her. Zeigler knuckle-pushing in Holt shoulders to ragdoll her ropeside, then: bang-bang in the body right/left; up top the hook. Again. Again. Maddie processing ‘Livy, beating her ragdoll. Holt progressively sleepier as the hits pile on...defenses shabby, head lolling. Zeigler's back shines up slick with ‘Livy-busting sweat...brunette in rhythm, bashing away on fading blonde until ref steps in. That's it: stupefied Holt blinking, swaying in the official's grasp; TKO5 in blacksmith fashion for Maddie Zeigler.

After: "It got kinda messy in the 4th, kinda scary, but I'm proud of myself for getting myself out of that situation and turning things aorund. She just couldn't drop me." Maddie smiles. "I can really feel myself improving with every fight, but I know I still have a lot of things to work on. You haven't seen my final form yet!" She chukles. "Olivia's tough, but she keeps underestimating me and I'm happy to make her pay for it. I'll fight her again any time and beat her every time. I kinda have her number!"
