Tahnee Atkinson vs Robyn Lawley (Unified Welterweight Championship)
(Results: Lookout. Words: Wiz)

BEFORE:

Pair of Aussie heavy hitters battling for the big girl gold with former champ Robyn, she of the 19-fight winning streak, stepping up to Tahnee, who spent six years working to reclaim the gold and has no intention of turning it over to her bigger countrywoman. "Robyn may be Godzilla," says a hard-eyed Tahnee, "But, I'M the welterweight champion, and that's not going to change tonight."

"It's a great story, yeah," says Robyn with a smile. "Tahnee finally reclaims the belts after all that time. But, that story ends tonight, with Atkinson flat on her back. Just like the last time."

ROUND ONE:

Yes, these two have fought before, but that doesn't mean some recon isn't necessary. Robyn setting up at gunnery range, using the long left hand to set up rights. Atkinson, giving up some reach, needs to move, angle, get to spots, get off, and get out. Fortunately, the champion is very, very good at that. Good enough that she's offsetting the reach advantage and holding her own with Godzilla, even as Lawley's getting some solid work done, landing that hard left jab and dropping HARD right hands behind it. It's good, two way stuff from bell to bell, and, when the final bell sounds it's close, but it's the challenger who grabs the points and the 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

More of the same. Both brunettes getting work done and no one able to gain much of an adv...BOOM! Right hand, ROBYN and the champion is HURT! Tahnee RUMBLIN', STUMBLIN', FUMBLIN' around the ring after an absolutely BRUTAL right from the challenger. Lawley all in immediately, RIPPING hard leather at the reeling Atkinson. Tahnee quickly on the ropes and taking, and what she's taking is a BEATING from the bigger woman. Ref looking in very closely. Atkinson's done very well to stay on her feet, but she's clearly ready to go as Lawley tees off to the head, refusing to buy on-sale body at any price...BELL! And in a nick of time. Atkinson a WRECK on the way back to the corner, but she's still on her feet. Meanwhile, Robyn gets the round wide and leads 20-18.

ROUND THREE:

Lawley walking the champ down early, using that long left to set up hard rights, force the younger woman back. Soon enough, however, Tahnee's legs begin to come around and she's able to move laterally, get off square, land some solid combinations in counter. Robyn doesn't respond by going back to range, however. She's determined to press the advantage, and it's working against her in a major way. Atkinson's playing the geometry like a fiddle, walking Lawley into hard shot. Tahnee can't get enough on the punches yet to do severe damage, but she's scoring well enough to make up the early stagger, and, by the end of the round, pull into the lead. At the bell, Atkinson's gotten back in the fight and also won the round to cut Lawley's lead to 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Robyn hears it in the corner and adjusts. She's back to doing the boxer/puncher thing at range, using her length and that hard left jab to try to dictate to the champion. Tahnee again angling, getting to spots, getting off, and getting out. Much like the first, it's good, two-way stuff, with both fighters getting work done and no one able to take control of the proceedings. It's also very GOOD stuff. Everyone's staying sound, playing good defense, all while scoring with hard shot. There's very little in it the entire way, but the former champ manages to steal the points in the last thirty seconds with a pair of NASTY combinations that back up the champion. At the bell, it's Lawley close and back to a two-point lead, 39-37.

ROUND FIVE:

More ranged work in the fifth. Robyn very comfortable out there, and she can use that left to enforce the terms. Tahnee again moving well, slipping the jab at times, getting to middle distances and getting off in combina...RIGHT HAND, ATKINSON and LAWLEY IS HURT! A BLISTERING right from the champion that would likely have ended this thing against ninety percent of the welters in the FCBA, but, not against Godzilla. Robyn stays on her feet, but she's noodle-kneed! Atkinson quickly calling in artillery strikes, backing the bigger woman to the ropes and then WORKING HER OVER to body! Tahnee buy that in bulk, going upstairs, but right back down. Hammering away with both hand as the ref looks on. He's ready to leap in, but the challenger hangs on to the bell. It's Tahnee and wide to cut Lawley's lead to 48-47 at the half. But. The challenger is still standing.

ROUND SIX:

Tahnee looking to finish. She's pressing forward, backing up the challenger with heavy shot. Robyn still buzzed, can't get off square. She's keeping the hands up, jabbing back in spots, trying to play for time here, all while Atkinson measures her for the finisher. A minute and a half in...BOOM! Right hand, TAHNEE and DOWN GOES GODZILLA! Atkinson lands a VICIOUS straight right that sends the former champion crashing to her back. Tahnee quickly to a neutral corner to watch and wait. Lawley rolling over to her belly at six. Pushes to hands and knees at seven...then SINKS BACK TO THE CANVAS AT EIGHT! She can't beat it! It's OVER! And your winner by KO6 and STILL Unified Welterweight Champion is Tahnee Atkinson!

AFTER:

Tahnee LOOKS like she went six rounds with Godzilla, but the champion is also clearly pleased with herself. She's not only defended her title against one of the biggest threats in the division, she's avenged a KO6 from a few years back. "She's Godzilla," Tahnee admits. "Hits about as hard as anyone I've ever been in with. But, I'm the best welter in the FCBA, and I've got the hardware to prove it."
