CANADIAN INVASION AT THE ASYLUM: THIS TIME IT'S PERSONAL

BEFORE:

"I've been in a bit of a slump," Emily admits with a shrug. "Well, tonight, on the sand, that changes."

"This is a challenge for me," Mikayla says. "Just like all the others. And, once again, I'll prove I'm up to it."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: " Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach, with plenty of patio heaters and fire pits functioning, is about to get some use. That's 'The Walk' by Mayer Hawthorne you hear, and across the sand comes the lovely Emily Bett Rickards!"

Tess: "And, Rickards is, indeed, slumping, having lost five in a row. But, she's had quite a bit of success in the FCBA and is only 32..."

O'Dell: "Emily into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a white number and a body that's clearly in top shape for this one..."

McCarthy: "A little skinny. Could never get into 'Playboy'..."

O'Dell: "Annnddd, that's 'Behold the Hurricane' by the Horrible Crows you hear behind us, and across the beach comes Mikayla 'Mass Destruction' Demaiter!"

Cassie: "Demaiter has done a lot of JMD work, but she's also campaigning on the beach and in traditional bantamweight fights...and getting results everywhere."

O'Dell: "Mikayla between the ropes and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that cobalt blue number she likes, and, judging by its reaction, the crowd does, too. Ladies about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Mikayla. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Rickards is no tomato can. Emily!"

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "Here we go. Ladies kicking up plenty of sand in the early going here. Both blondes on the move and both are very athletic. We're seeing lots of movement of head, feet, hands, as the fighters get busy and probe for openings..."

McCarthy: "Rickards is a decent fighter. If she just avoids making a big mistake, she'll win easily."

O'Dell: "Right now, nobody making mistakes. This isn't exactly recon going on out there, but there's plenty of tactical stuff involved, as both blondes look to use their speed and quickness, and Demaiter, the former hockey player, hanging right with the athletic Rickards..."

Tess: "We're seeing some solid shot landing."

O'Dell: "Sure are. Nobody hurt, but everybody feeling the leather as we come down the stretch. BIG trade there and Demaiter got the best of it, forcing Emily back a step. Rickards fires back, and there's the bell. Very close. Mikayla."

Cassie: "And, Demaiter has the 10-9 lead."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "More movement in the second. Lots of sand being disturbed as these two blondes are ranging across the beach, looking to get to spots and get off in combination. Lots of good boxing on display here, as Mikayla plays Emily's game..."

McCarthy: "Being forced to. Rickards not letting her get into the phone booth."

O'Dell: "To be fair, Demaiter's not really made any attempts in that direction, at least early on. Instead, she's happy to box with, and the younger woman is absolutely holding her own against the older, at least at the moment..."

Cassie: "And providing lots of crowd-pleasing action."

O'Dell: "Down to the final ten seconds of what's been a very competitive second round. GOOD combination by Rickards and there's another. Emily forcing Mikayla to cover up and there's the bell. Close again. Rickards."

Tess: "And, we're even at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Rickards backing up MIkayla to start this one. She found something at the end of that last round. She's getting off in combination, landing hard right hands, forcing the younger woman backward across the sand..."

McCarthy: "Got her on the back foot..."

O'Dell: "Most certainly does, and the veteran aiming to keep Demaiter there. Mikayla firing back in spots, landing some counters, but, for the first time, someone's fighting lead, and that someone is Emily Bett Rickards at the moment..."

Tess: "Demaiter not exactly getting taken to the woodshed, but she can see it from here."

O'Dell: "Sure can. We're down to the final half minute of the third, and it's been Rickards in command from the beginning. GOOD combination, Emily, and that backs Demaiter up again. And, there's the bell. No question about this one. Rickards. WIde."

Cassie: "And, Emily pulls into a 29-28 lead."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Rickards pressing the action, backing up Demaiter and GETTING ROCKED WITH A RIGHT HAND COUNTER! Mikayla a HUGE right hand and Rickards is GOBSMACKED! Emily stumbling backward across the sand as Demaiter goes onto the offensive..."

Cassie: "Going to try to finish this right now..."

O'Dell: "Most certainly is. Younger Canadian a buzz saw now, winging away at Emily, backing her across the beach to trap her against the ropes and Mikayla goes BODY in a big way, banging away to ribs and tummy...."

McCarthy: "Keep that guard up, Rickards!"

O'Dell: "Emily doing that despite the punishment. Demaiter upstairs, then right back down. She's banging away with both hands, looking to finish. Ref looking in closely, but there's the bell. Emily rides it out, but Demaiter takes the round wide."

Tess: "And evens things at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Demaiter the one pushing forward as we start the fifth. Rickards still a bit unsteady, and Mikayla taking full advantage, bringing her power to bear, backing her rival across the beach. Emily firing back in counter here and there..."

Tess: "Demaiter landing some really hard shot..."

O'Dell: "Rickards managing to ship it and stay afloat. BIG right from Mikayla and EMILY IS HURT! Rickards covering up and DOWN SHE GOES after a short left hook from the younger blonde! Emily crashing to her left side in the sand!"

Cassie: "That could be it..."

O'Dell: "Mikayla quickly to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three, four, five. Emily down in the sand, not moving at all. Six. Seven. This is academic. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Rickards both down and OUT and it's OVER and your winner by KO5 is Mikayla 'Mass Destruction' Demaiter!"

McCarthy: "Lucky. She's lucky!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go across the street to Cassie Scerbo..."

Cassie: "I have our winner, Mikayla Demaiter, and, Mikayla, you seem to like beach fights..."

Mikayla (smiling): "I just like fighting, so, JMD or the beach or in the ring at bantam, I don't care. I just want to lace up the gloves and get more rounds."

Cassie: "So, not worried about what we'll come up with next?"

Mikayla (laughing): "Not unless it's that Gator Brawl thing. I'm not sure I'm up for that. Anything else? I'm your girl!"
