CANADIAN INVASION AT THE ASYLUM: THIS TIME IT'S PERSONAL

BEFORE:

"I've been waiting for an opportunity here," says Shenae with a lovely smile. "And, believe me, I'm not about to waste it."

"I'm glad she's happy to be here and all that," says a hard-eyed Olivia. "But. She's NOT going to be here for long."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'Myself and I' by the lovely lady coming to the ring right now, Shenae Grimes..."

McCarthy: "I don't know why they allow these people to sing..."

Tess: "Says the woman who was LEGALLY ENJOINED FROM SINGING!"

McCarthy: "That was ONE song and Grace Slick is just JEALOUS of my VOICE!"

Cassie: "Yeah. THAT'S the problem..."

McCarthy: "Shut UP, Scabbo!"

O'Dell (sighing): "Five more fights and then some of that scotch from Pointy's cellar. Grimes into the ring and helped off with the robe and the crowd showing some appreciation for the lovely Canadian in that black bikini. And, that's 'Good 4 U' you hear behind us, and here comes the singer of THAT tune, 'The Murrieta Mauler', Olivia Rodrigo!"

McCarthy: "The only thing worse that Weirdo's FIGHTERS are his NICKNAMES..."

Tess: "Rodrigo's done well since her move to flyweight, but she's still at the bottom of the Front Street pecking order and definitely needs a result tonight..."

O'Dell: "Olivia into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve, and she's looking good in that marigold number she likes, if the crowd reaction is any indication. Ladies about ready to go, time for some picks. Tess likes Olivia. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Grimes actually HAS FCBA wins. Shenae!"

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "Split panel in the first and the ladies get to work. Brunettes doing some recon right now. Rodrigo has some reach here, and she likes to set up at range, get her box on. Shenae working the angles, moving the feet..."

McCarthy: "Grimes is plenty athletic, Jenny..."

O'Dell: "Most certainly is. She's looking to slip that jab, block it, get to spots at get off. Both fighters having some success here, but neither committing on anything at this point. It's all about looking for openings in the opening frame."

Cassie: "Both brunettes finding some, too."

O'Dell: "No doubt about it. Final fifteen seconds ticking away now. SHARP exchange there, as both Olivia and Shenae land a solid right hand, and there's the bell. Close one, but Rodrigo is going to grab the points in the first..."

Tess: "And move into the 10-9 lead."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "More tactical stuff to start this one. Both ladies boxing pretty well right now, and, that being the case, neither looking to renegotiate terms. Instead, the brunettes are working hard and scoring points, with neither able to gain the edge..."

McCarthy: "Grimes just needs to keep at it. She'll be fine."

O'Dell: "Shenae seems to think so. Once again, it's Rodrigo scoring points when she gets the distance she wants, something she's enforcing with that left. Grimes, on the other hand, able to make some hay when she gets to middle distances..."

Tess: "As Mac pointed out in the last round, you have to be impressed with Shenae's athleticism. She's moving VERY well."

O'Dell: "Also moving is the clock, and we're under twenty seconds to go in what's been another competitive round. GOOD right hand from Grimes there. Best punch of the fight and that backed O-Rod up a step. There's the bell. Close. Shenae."

Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third begins with Grimes backing up Rodrigo. Got to wonder if Olivia's a little buzzed from that right hand late in the second, because, all of a sudden, Shenae's in control of this thing. Canadian getting off in combination now..."

McCarthy: "Just like I said! Keep after her!"

O'Dell: "Olivia firing back in counter in spots, but Shenae's fighting lead all of a sudden, and the older brunette's doing it very well, piling up points, keeping her rival on the back foot. Rodrigo backed to the ropes now, as Grimes gets off lusty..."

Cassie: "Excellent stuff from Shenae.."

O'Dell: "Sure is. Olivia ties up, wrestles her way off the ropes. Grimes right back in her grill, backing her up again. Ten seconds to go in the round. GOOD right from Shenae and there's the bell. Not close at all in the third. Grimes."

Tess: "And, Shenae leads 29-28."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Grimes looking to pressure, but Olivia's able to set the feet now and get the jab going. She's shaken whatever damage she suffered, and she's back to getting her box on. Shenae quickly adjusting and we're back on familiar terms."

McCarthy: "Good stuff from Grimes. Again."

O'Dell: "Rodrigo following that jab with some good right hands. Shenae on the move, angling, getting to spots and getting off in combination. Both brunettes having success offensively here. And, as we've seen most of the way, nobody able to take control."

Tess: "Good, two-way round."

O'Dell: "And, we've got about fifteen seconds left in it. Shenae with a good combination there and Rodrigo fires back, landing a couple of solid shots at the bell. Going to be very close yet again, but O-Rod will get the points this time."

Cassie: "And even things at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Pattern set in this one. It's O-Rod working that long left jab at range, Shenae looking to angle, getting off in combination when she gets to her spots. Once again, we're seeing a good, two-way round here, with both fighters getting work done..."

Cassie: "And, neither able to gain control."

O'Dell: "Despite the best efforts of both fighters. O-Rod lands a nice right hand there, and that backed Shenae up a step and THERE'S A RIGHT HOOK! Grimes staggered and DROPPED BY A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND! BIG shot by Rodrigo..."

Tess: "That might do it..."

O'Dell: "O-Rod to a neutral corner. Grimes down on her back. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Shenae rolls to her belly at six. Seven. Pushing to hands and knees at eight. Nine. TEN! It's OVER. Grimes still on all fours as the count passes her by and it's OVER and your winner by KO5 is 'The Murrieta Mauler', Olivia Rodrigo!"

McCarthy: "Lucky. Just lucky."

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Olivia Rodrigo, and, O-Rod, a lot of tactical stuff in that one..."

Olivia (smiling): "Yeah. She's a veteran and knows how to fight. Didn't make things easy on me. But, I can box, too. I've shown it before and I showed it again tonight."

Tess: "Things seem to be going well for you at flyweight so far..."

Olivia (smiling): "Absolutely. Loving working with Britney. I fit well at the weight, so, looking forward to whatever's next."
