ODDS & ENDS APRIL BEACH EVENT

Before: Possibility of a new lightweight contender in the making gets tongues a’waggin. Kira playing it coy: “I’ve been in with Jenner, Blake, JLaw; fighting Tiffanies is nothing new for me.” Maybe not, but two top-tiers in six weeks, that’s gonna get you some free publicity no matter how you slice it.

Kelsey definitely needs to keep the momentum going, wherever the Tiffany belts land this month, it could see her in the title picture. And if it means excising a thorn in O&Es side for the last two years…

Ringpost-in-sand setup. Neither fighter wearing a robe on entrance. Kelsey enters wearing a black backless monokini with a v scoop down to her navel, hair loose down to her shoulders. Kira enters in a red top, black bottoms, red gloves, hair up in a high bun. Both fighters barefoot in the sand

R1: Kelsey with the more classical approach, flat-footed stalking, sliding forward behind a piston jab, right hand cocked at her chest and poised to drop into openings. Kira guard up, marching forward, dipping side to side to negotiate the jab as well as power on her side to side clubbing lefts and rights. Spirited stuff as girls take turns midring--Kosarin working up the middle, Merritt getting sock to the side. Down the stretch, both lean into short rights, twist into come-back hooks but KIRA GETS HURT! Kelsey’s glove detonating off Kosarin’s jaw, sending the tall beauty clattering back to the ropes. Kira does well to keep her feet as she swoons, lifting weak mitts to her eyebrows. Kelsey steps-to puts a HIDING on Kosarin’s winter-white flanks, nuzzling and pushing inside the guard to dig to the gut. With Kira broken down and reeling on the spot, Kelsey helps herself to jug with brazen womping action, pounding away as groggy bantam soaks it up glumly.

R2: Kira able to maintain order in the first minute, running Kelsey onto the jab, forcing her back outside. Range established, Kosarin starts to come forward again, spends the second minute methodically advancing, getting the right hand dialed in--Merritt backing up, lifting her arms to block, but this isn’t a good posture for her. Down the stretch Kira puts it all together--slamming jabs, slicing footwork to get position, and body lean into a short, crashing right to the chin and THERE GOES KELSEY! Merritt sprawled against the ropes, face pale, eyes dreamy, Kosarin extending the left to measure, then driving it off her back foot, plowing rights home to chin and chest. Kelsey’s turn to show some heart--she soaks up some bombs, legs atremble, but holding firm, Kira denied a KO at the bell.

R3: Kelsey’s legs still don’t look right--she’s very flat footed, weight on her heels even when she comes forward, but she’s bending into swinging lefts and rights, bringing the fight to Kira. Kosarin cautious early, bringing her jab back quick, covering up to block sweeping punches at her temples and ears, trying to stay in the pocket and hit the openings. Final minute, Kira’s got the timing of it--she bends inside a wide Kelsey right, kisses a short, straight right off the chin and MERRITT’S HURT AGAIN! Kesley stumbling, righting herself, guarding up woozy, Kira jabs up top then slings a gut wrenching right, pit of the belly--crowd moaning in sympathy as Merritt freezes up in shock. Kosarin palming up, walking her girl to ropes, then laying it on thick--beefy, stroking lefts and rights in above the hip, crippling body work bending Kelsey forward, Kira just bodying her girl back, bashing away strong to the body, occasionally sprucing things up with short, straight lefts and rights between the mitts. Merritt out on her feet, but refusing to go down, takes a shellacking to the bell, swaying windblown on the spot, but sticking her chin out defiantly as Kosarin stalks away.

R4: Kelsey catches a second wind, really takes it to Kira bell to bell. Kosarin unable to come forward, can’t extend--she’s pressed ropeside, leaning back, gloves up, trying to block the incoming, Merritt crouching forward, dipping side to side, pulling in compact wallop from either mitt, driving in with her shoulder to stack Jersey Girl up, then digging furiously amidships when in tight. Ref issuing breaks, Kelsey wading back in to keep the pressure on--not pretty, but it’s good, effective mauling. Merritt blocked upstairs for the most part, but she’s savaging Kosarin to the hips, waist and ribs--good, good body work done by hungry Kelsey this round.

R5: Finally a round where neither girl is put in serious trouble--just good solid back and forth, with a little more defense from each. Kira making smart adjustments, moving her head side to side, still pulling punches around as she bends, but tightening up the motion, making it harder to counter. Kelsey still in control with her jab, steering Kosarin around the ring, able to create a distance or collapse at will: it’s the difference in the round. Hook the best punch for Kira, Kelsey relying on jab/right hand and superior overall ring generalship. Round to Merritt as she edges into lead.

R6 : Kelsey pawing the jab, retreating in measured steps, luring Kira forward for more of the same as brunette eagerly wades in. Kosarin energized as she pounds a right hand partially through Merritt’s guard, pressing, eagerly hammering away wide as each fighter sets in her crouch. Kira bobbing low, waits on Kelsey’s left hand, fits that tidy right to body, twists and gets that CLAnGING left hook on the chops and DOWN GOES MERRITT! Kelsey flat on her back—she stiffly fights off the KO, struggling to her feet and pitching face first into ropes as Kira hungrily stalks the neutral corner. Swaying 8 Merritt: ON COMES KOSARIN! Kelsey pushing her hands out to forestall the inevitable, punches raining down in irresistible sheets—it’s Kira at her terrifying best. Kosarin on widespread legs, shifting weight one foot to the other as she hauls in the harm—lefts and rights splattering off Merritt, busting her and buffeting her—it’s all too much., Ref steps in to save a sobbing, battered Kelsey from her own stubbornness—huffing, puffing, Kira Kosarin the TKO6 victrix.

After: KIRA complaining about an early stoppage from the ref: “That’s twice now! I’ve earned those 10-counts, let me put these girls on the ground where they belong!”
