Intro:
Rematch to kick off tonights pay per view as Joan Smalls hopes to do the double over Alexina Graham. The Nottingham native lost by knockout in seven rounds when they fought in September. Has Alexina found the answer to beat the former welterweight champion or will it be more heartbreak for her?
This bout came about as Alexina posted on her social media "I don't normally ask for fights but I am challenging Joan Smalls to a rematch. I respect you a lot but I feel I could have done better. Will you take me on once again?"
The reply came from Joan as she posted "I like you Alexina and I haven't got a fight booked so let's do it. Just a word of warning though, I am feeling in phenomenal shape and I already took you out once. This time I won't be as nice 🥊🥊. " Accepting the challenge with gusto.
Fight Night! Out first came Joan with her coach Taryn Terrell. Joan is wearing a black sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks and shoes, gold coloured gloves and her hair is in a ponytail. Joan steps inside the ring with a smile as she looks relaxed about this bout. Taryn making sure to tell her to keep her focus.
Alexina heads out to the aisle with her coach following behind. She is wearing a pink sports bra with white trim, matching trunks and shoes, white gloves and her hair is braided. Alexina climbs into the ring looking serious as this is a chance at redemption for her that she clearly doesn't want to blow.
The referee waves the fighters to them at the middle of the ring. The two models facing off with an intense stare down as both their beautiful features tense up. They do respectfully touch gloves before walking back to their corners. The bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Both come out exchanging a few short flurries since they know each other well. Alexina looking up step inside with a few hooks that just fall short as Joan steps back. A straight does catch Joan to snap back her head as Alexina is looking to be more aggressive this time around.
Alexina lands a few more solid hooks but Joan surprises her with an uppercut that knocks her back a step. Joan now comes roaring back as she drives Alexina back with a mixture of punches onto the ropes. Alexina needing to hold onto Joan to force the referee to step in to split them apart to fight on.
They resume with Smalls quicker off the mark. She lands a crisp jab onto the nose of her foe before a right hook follows onto the jaw of Alexina to twist her head. Alexina is getting outworked as she moves around the perimeter of the ring. The round comes to a close with Joan nodding to her coach as she looks relaxed. Alexina on the other hand taps her own cheeks as she tells herself off for giving up the control she had early in the round.
Round 2:
Both resume with their eyes firmly locked as they exchange. Alexina is changing levels more to try to throw off her opponents rhythm. Joan landing a few cuffing shots around the head of Graham as both look to grab control of the action. Crowd chanting both fighters names as the sound of leather on flesh can just about be heard.
A left hook catches Joan around her ear. It's followed by a jab/straight combo to make her back off. Alexina holding the middle of the ring landing crisp punches through the guard of the former champion. Joan needing to cover up more tightly, allowing Alexina to swing in more hooks around to her foes flanks.
Last minute of the round sees Joan start to come out of her shell to trade with Alexina. Problem for Joan is that Alexina has room to move back to dodge before coming back in with straight shots. The bell rings to end proceedings with Alexina looking fired up. The smile gone from Joan's face as she walks over to her own corner.
Round 3:
Back at it they go with gusto. Punches landing flush on cheeks to cause some marks. Joan lands a nasty right hook under the left eye of Alexina, opening a gash there as Alexina groans out. Joan starts to ram home punches around that gash to make her foe move back. Alexina trying to reset herself under pressure from her opponent.
Joan is herding Alexina around near the ropes. She is starting to switch up her targets as Alexina tries to protect the cut under her eye. Alexina needing to start throwing more punches as they get back at Joan. More toe to toe exchanges coming as the fighters are fully motivated to win.
Problem for Alexina is each time she gets clipped around that cut and she is wincing. Joan is looking happy enough when the bell rings, there's blood staining her gloves. Alexina not looking pleased when the cut is being worked on in her corner.
Round 4:
Alexina knows she needs to try to push the pace to not allow Joan to unload on her. Joan has to cover up more tightly as Alexina is throwing flurries at her. Joan giving up ground around the ring as she is trying to match the intensity of her opponent.
A left cross lands on the forehead of Joan to push her back into a neutral corner. Joan needing to shell up as Alexina is unloading on her now. Joan clinches up with her opponent when she sees an opening. Both women grinding bodies as Alexina looks to make the clinch uncomfortable by pinning Joan into the turnbuckles.
They are broken up with Joan moving out the corner. Alexina looking to keep the pressure on but she eats several clean shots back into her own face. They exchange more closely as they look to try to power each other back, ending up clinched again just before the bell rings. A bit of a shove from Alexina before she walks back to her corner, Joan staring hard at her.
Round 5:
Fighting around the middle of the ring trading stiffer shots. Alexina gets caught around her left eye with a right hook to make her cry. Joan starting to knock back Alexina as she plants her feet and swings through her hips to send sweat and some blood flying off Graham.
Alexina trying to push off Joan but gets caught with a left hook flush on the chin. THAT OPENS UP ALEXINA TO AN UPPERCUT THAT ROCKS HER HEAD BACK AND DOWN GOES ALEXINA DOWN ONTO ALL FOURS!
Joan jogs over to the neutral corner with a laser focus to her gaze..1....2....3.....4... Alexina groans as she pushes onto her heels. 5....6.... Alexina groans as she tries to stand up. 7....8... She slips back down though as her legs look like jelly. 9....10 it's over here as Alexina is counted out.
Winner Joan Smalls KO Round 5
After:
Joan raises her arms as she looks to the heavens with a big smile. She looks over at Alexina and walks over to her. Asking how Alexina is as she reaches out with her right glove to help up Alexina. Instead though Alexina slaps the hand away as she looks embarrassed she lost again. Joan shakes her head as she heads over to her own corner.
Looking at the canvas with a glare. Alexina punches the canvas with her right glove as her coach comes into the ring. Getting helped up to her stool. Alexina gets patched up as she is clearly in a slump that she is struggling to get out of.
Once she feels better Alexina steps out the ring. She looks gutted as now her temper has died down and the realisation that she is in a bad run of form hits. Can Alexina find the answers to refind her form that at one point made her a potential title challenger.
In the ring Joan gets her left hand raised by the referee. She seems to be back in form as she wants to earn another shot at the world title. Flexing her arms for the camera with a cheeky wink. Taryn fist bumps her before they step out the ring to head towards the back. |
