Intro:
The penultimate bout in the fourth round of this year's Diamond Boxing Tournament sees Alice Goodwin (1-2) look to possibly play spoiler. Bridgette Satterlee (3-0) is undefeated in the tournament, arguably this is her toughest test in the event so far. Who will leave Milan's Allianz Cloud Arena with the victory?
Both fighters gave their thoughts on camera before the bout. Alice was first up as she did her video at her stables gym after a training session. She is wearing a black sports bra, black shorts with white stripes down the sides and white trainers. She wipes her brow with a white towel before hanging it over her shoulders.
"This place feels like home to me. To get to train with people who have become my friends. So to lose last month was a kick in my arse. I can't take this place for granted and while I have improved, I need to keep getting stronger to show I belong here" she says as she looks to have mixed feelings.
She then says "Bridgette don't think I've forgotten about you through this. I have watched you and you are a good fighter but you lack the qualities to be a champion because of that ego. You think yourself the best already. I am going to show you what it takes to be a great fighter."
Bridgette takes her video at her home as she stands next to her AMDD title. She is wearing a white tank top with blue denim shorts. Telling the camera "see this, this is why I am going to win this tournament. I am stronger then these old hags and these wh*res that they have coming against me in this tournament." Laughing as clearly isn't seeing any potential challenges to her winning it all.
Tapping her abs, she continues "Alice you really think you belong in the same league as me? I get that you think dropping your knickers is a talent but you have never made an impact in this sport. You'll be looking up at the lights again in Milan, probably not the first time for you." Laughing again as she has no respect for her opponent.
Fight Night! First out come Alice with her coach Natascha McElhone to her right side. Alice fist bumps Natascha before walking to the ring as she looks in the mood to get back on the winning path in this tournament. She climbs through the ropes into the ring wearing a black sports bra, black trunks, shoes and gloves, hair tied into a braid. Alice bounces on her toes as Natascha rubs her shoulders.
Jess Bush leads out Bridgette down the aisle. Bridgette is smirking as she looks relaxed about this bout. She soon steps into the ring wearing a white sports bra with black trim, matching trunks and shoes, black gloves, her hair is tied into a ponytail. She taps her gloves together as she stands in her corner.
The fighters walk to the center of the ring. Alice stares daggers at Bridgette as the younger woman has her hands on her hips. They quickly swipe gloves with their opponent before walking back to their corners. The bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Bridgette is across the ring looking to pressure Alice early on. Several punches land flush on the forehead of Alice as the American looks to press the issue. Before the end of the opening minute Alice lands an overhand left onto the jaw of the bigger fighter to make her back up a step.
Both fight in closer for nearly thirty seconds as Alice is trying to push back her opponent. Bridgette nudges her back with her left forearm before she lands a short right hook to the cheek of Alice to twist her head.
After that Bridgette now has control as Alice is trying to fight on the outside, Bridgette using her reach advantage to pepper the cheeks of her opponent. The round comes to a close with Bridgette looking smug as she returns to her corner. Alice meanwhile taps her gloves as she walks back to her corner not pleased with herself for this opening round.
Round 2:
Out they come stabbing in jabs to kick off the round. Bridgette lands a few short hooks as she looks to push the tempo up a notch. It leaves her open with an uppercut on her chin though to knock her back a step as Alice steps inside to drive her backwards.
Bridgette being forced to fight on the inside, Alice is firing in hooks around the guard of the American. Who has to push off Goodwin to create space. Bridgette landing a few solid jabs into the face of her foe as she moves away from the ropes to create space.
Late in the round Bridgette is left open and takes a straight on her chin to push her back a step. Alice landing a follow up left/right hook combo. Bridgette finds herself pinned into a neutral corner as she covers up until the bell rings. Alice certainly set her stall out here. Bridgette meanwhile maybe getting a quick reality check that Alice isn't a push over.
Round 3:
Alice pushes off her stool looking energised. She is working the torso of Bridgette with short hooks. Bridgette needing to keep nudging back Alice. Both exchange around the center of the ring as they look to grab control of the action. Cheeks being marked up.
A jab catches Bridgette on her chin to snap her back. Alice follows up with a three punch flurry to knock the American onto her heels. Alice starting to smother the work of Bridgette as she pins her down against the ropes. Bridgette has to hold onto Alice to stop her momentum.
They are split apart with Alice keeping on the front foot. Bridgette needing to box more on her back foot as both land stiff shots. Bridgette ends up back on the ropes after an overhand left again catches the younger woman on her jaw to twist her head around. The bell dings with Alice jogging back to her corner with a cold fury to her expression. Bridgette meanwhile curses under her breath as she returns to her own corner, not pleased one bit how this fight has kicked off.
Round 4:
They resume with Alice again looking to keep on the front foot. Bridgette is doubling up her jab now to try to ward off the veteran. Alice eats a right hook around her ear when she does step inside. Bridgette now driving back Alice against the ropes with straight punches square into the face of the English fighter.
Alice grabs hold of Bridgette to slow her down now. They are pushed apart with both scowling at each other. Alice catches Bridgette with a few straight punches into her face to make her back off. Bridgette counters after leaning back out the way of a right hook. A straight slams into Alice's nose to make her slow down.
More punches are starting to open up Alice as Bridgette looks to push her around the ring. Alice shells up more towards the end of the round. Bridgette throwing in hooks around the guard up until the bell rings to end proceedings. Bridgette storms back to her corner looking fired up now.
Round 5:
A hard fought start to the round with both trying to push each other back. Bridgette lands a few straight shots that cause a little blood to trickle from a cut on the bridge of the nose of Alice. While Alice causes a mouse to form under the right eye of Bridgette from overhand lefts that keep finding a home on the American.
Near the end of the opening minute, Alice lands a straight on the belly button of Bridgette before she lands a left hook on her jaw. Bridgette's guard opens up and Alice starts to whack away at the face of Satterlee to drive her backwards till Bridgette's back touches the turnbuckles of a neutral corner. Bridgette clinches with Alice to stop her rhythm, allowing the referee to split them up and for Bridgette to get out the corner.
Under fifty seconds to go, both are pumping hard shots into each others face as Bridgette fights to hold off Alice. At times they are going toe to toe to the delight of the crowd. At the bell they just about hold back throwing more punches as the crowd applaud them. Bridgette spits out her gumshield as she sits on her stool with a pissed off look as she clearly thought she'd had have taken out Alice by now.
Round 6:
Pushing off their stools with sweat dripping off their brows. They exchange around the center of the ring as Bridgette getting up on her toes to try to keep Alice from walking her down. Alice lands a few solid body shots before being pushed back. A jab/straight lands flush on the nose of Alice to make her hiss and retreat back.
Bridgette catches Alice coming in with a short left hook on the cheek of the older woman. Alice finding herself now being pressed around the perimeter of the ring. Bridgette holding the middle of the ring landing some nice combos as she looks fully focused on smacking Alice's lights out.
But Bridgette is taking some punches back into her face flush as her guard is open. Bridgette nudges back Alice to the ropes and fires in short hooks to the body as she looks to wear out Goodwin. The round ends with Bridgette and Alice starting their opponent down before they walk back to their corners. Getting wiped down as this is becoming a war of attrition.
Round 7:
Resuming with Bridgette taking an early lead after she smacks Alice with a double jab followed by a straight to her face. Bridgette looking to step up a gear it seems here. Alice finds herself needing to clinch up when her back is near the ropes as Bridgette was walking her down.
They are back at it with Alice dipping under a right cross to land a few short body shots as she steps inside. Bridgette grits her mouthpiece before nudging back Alice. Rifling in a straight to the forehead of Goodwin to cause sweat to fly off. Alice not looking best pleased to be boxing off her back foot.
Each time Bridgette is getting control of the action, Alice finds a way to come back at her with a crisp counter shot. The round comes to a close with Bridgette looking to be getting on top of things but she is growing frustrated by the resilience of her opponent.
Round 8:
Fighting again around the center, Alice is starting to tag Bridgette on her chin as the American is opening up a little too much. A left hook slams onto the jaw of Satterlee to send sweat flying as her head is twisted around. Goodwin now coming on strong with straight shots into the face of her foe to knock her towards the ropes.
Bridgette clinches up to stop Alice. The referee breaks them apart with them resuming with a hard fought exchange as neither woman wants to back down to the other. Problem for Bridgette is she eats an uppercut on her chin that rocks her backwards! A LEFT HOOK IS FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER UPPERCUT SENDS BRIDGETTE DOWN ONTO HER BACK!
Alice walks to the neutral corner with sweat dripping off her as this has been a hell of a contest for her so far. 1....2....3.... Bridgette groans as she covers her eyes with her right glove. 4....5....6.... She slowly rolls to her right side. 7....8... Jess is banging on the ring trying to get Bridgette to get up. 9.....10 it's all for nought as Satterlee is counted out!

After:
This is arguably an upset as Bridgette has had her tournament hopes take a dent. Alice pounds her chest with her right glove as she looks at the beaten woman. Heading over to her corner after letting her emotions out to be given a hug by Natascha, who looks very proud of the resolve of Goodwin to win this personal contest.
Across the ring Bridgette has to be helped up to her stool as she looks half out of it. Jess checking her over and Bridgette does come around fully to reality and the fact that she has lost her perfect record in this tournament. Head in her hands as she can be heard sobbing. Her chance at winning this tournament has went down but it isn't over by any stretch for her.
The winner doesn't exactly give Bridgette a respectful look. Instead she looks to be enjoying the misery of the woman who treated her with no respect before the bout. Alice getting told by Natascha that Bridgette got what she deserved.
Bridgette soon leaves the ring as she can't bare to stay in it to see Alice get her hand raised. This was certainly a reality check for Bridgette if she thought she'd walk through this tournament with ease. Jess telling her she'll come back stronger from this moment as they walk to the backstage area.
In the ring Alice gets her name read out to a cheer from her supporters. Her left arm is raised as Alice smiles to the cameras. Jokingly she tells them "not bad for an old lady" with a wink. There can not be any doubts now that she is having a Renaissance in her career.
She steps out the ring with Natascha beside her. It's a long shot for Alice to be able to win the tournament but at the very least she has given herself a chance to finish in a possible top three position. Some would have seen her as possible cannon fodder, that reputation is long gone judging by this result. |
