Intro:
We kicked off tonights action here in Milan's Allianz Cloud Arena. The fourth round of this year's Diamond Boxing Tournament sees Jesinta Campbell (1-2) hoping to turn things around after losing her last two tournament bouts. While Lorella Boccia (0-3) is hoping that being on homeland will help her break her duck and get a win on the board.
Before the contest both women were asked to do a video with their thoughts on. Jesinta did her video after a jog as she wears a white sports bra, white jogging pants and sneakers. Hands on her hips as she takes a moment to breath before she talks to the camera.
"Look I am not going to make excuses. I am simply going to get stronger and keep my eyes on the prize because I am not done yet. Right here in Italy you'll see what all my training, all my hard bouts has brought me to this point and Lorella ain't going to stand in my way" says Jesinta. She looks more keen to keep on training as she nods to the camera and gets back to her running.
While Lorella stands wearing a light blue dress and heels in front of the arena. She tells the camera in her native tongue "I have failed my fans, friends and family. It hurts to say that but that is what is firing me up." She takes a breath to keep her cool as it clearly upsets her.
She then points at the arena and says "this is where I make my stand. Jesinta is coming to my backyard and I am going to knock her out. I won't keep failing everyone." She struts off as she looks confident that she isn't going to fail in her home country.
Fight Night! First to come out is Jesinta with her coach Nikki Visser. She hasn't brought the ACB welterweight title this time, instead she is wearing a black sports bra with a red rose pattern on the left bra cup. Black trunks with red stripes down the sides, matching shoes, red gloves and her hair tied into a ponytail. She climbs into the ring and nods to her coach to show she is ready for this bout.
The crowd now roar as they see their national hero walk out to the aisle. Lorella has her coach Miyada Issiki behind her. Lorella holds the Italian flag up in her navy blue gloves as they smile. Hanging the flag on the turnbuckles of her corner as she stands wearing a navy blue sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks and shoes, blue gloves with gold thumbs, hair tied into her ponytail. She taps her gloves together as she stares across the ring at her opponent.
The fighters walk to the middle of the ring for the face off. The referee goes through their final instructions as Lorella's name is being chanted. They do touch gloves when told to, though there is a scowl exchanged between them. Once back in their corners the bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Out come the fighters with Jesinta looking to establish her jab and footwork early on. Lorella dipping down to throw a few testing punches around the abs of the Aussie. Near the end of the opening minute of the round, Jesinta catches her foe with a short left hook as Lorella comes in closer. A straight followed by another left hook crashes onto the face of the Italian to force her to back off.
Jesinta is holding the middle of the ring, showing her opponent respect by not charging forwards. Lorella is firing back but isn't matching the work coming from the ACB champion. Jesinta is lacing her to the face through her mitts with crisp two to three punch combos.
Late in the round Lorella does start to move in closer to work. Showing some bite with hook to the body. Jesinta needing to nudge her back to create space. Both opening up more in the home stretch as they can be heard grunting with effort. The round soon comes to a close with Lorella knowing judging by her expression that she started too slow here.
Round 2:
Lorella is looking more keen to force the issue early in the round. A few toe to toe exchanges come at the middle of the ring with slaps of leather on flesh ring out. Jesinta steps back to land a double jab into the face of Lorella to force her to cover up.
As Jesinta looks to turn the heat on her opponent, she eats an overhand right onto her lips to make her think. Lorella taking the opportunity to counter attack as she whacks away with piston like body shots to work back Campbell onto the ropes. Jesinta gritting her mouthpiece not to let out any real signs of getting hurt. Needing to clinch up with Boccia to force the referee to step in.
Once apart the action is certainly turning to Lorella's side. She smacks Jesinta with a few solid blows to knock her head back. A short right across the jugs of Jesinta make her hiss. Jesinta comes firing back when her back is near the ropes again. The bell dings to end proceedings with Lorella looking more assured. Jesinta on the other hand taps her cheeks as if to tell herself off.
Round 3:
Resuming around the middle of the ring. Jesinta is starting to get her rhthym going again. Lorella is landing some beautiful body shots to make Jesinta snarl as she tries to fight off the pain. A double jab leads to a straight to snap back the head of Lorella to the delight of her corner crew.
As Jesinta looks to push the tempo up a notch. Lorella catches her coming in with a straight onto the chin of Jesinta to snap her head back. Jesinta starting to cover up more tightly as they enter the second half of the round. Lorella switching up more as she is trying not to be too one dimensional.
Herded near the ropes, Jesinta looks annoyed as she is landing more single punches then what she is getting back. At the end of the round Jesinta stares at the ceiling for a moment fighting back a curse word that's clearly on her lips. Lorella on the other hand looks fully focused tonight as she stares at her foe from her stool.
Round 4:
It looks like Jesinta is keen to get back on the front foot, landing several straight punches down the barrel onto the face of Lorella to keep her on the outside. Lorella digging in a few solid body shots to make Jesinta hiss but the Aussie nudges back Lorella before landing a left/right hook combo.
Keeping Lorella around the outside part of the ring. Jesinta is showing good precision with her punches as she now switches things up. Lorella gritting her mouthpiece now as her cheeks are getting a pink hue. Lorella nearly headbutting Jesinta to force her way in closer, leading to a few scruffy moments before Lorella is dragged into a front headlock. Referee breaks them up and warns Jesinta to keep things clean.
Less then forty five seconds to go. Jesinta is looking to turn the head of Lorella but she can't keep her opponent under wraps. Lorella coming over the top with punches to turn the head of Jesinta. The round ends with both women getting wiped down as their coaches chat about what they want from them.
Round 5:
Out they come with eyes firmly locked as they exchange. Jesinta wanting again to push the pace but she is met by a solid shot into her stomach to make her gasp as she bends over. Lorella whacks away with hooks as she smells blood in the water to rock back Jesinta.
The Aussie trying to fire back, problem is her punches don't have the steam to ward her foe off. A right hook to the chin of Jesinta twists her head. AS JESINTA RAISES HER GLOVES UP, LORELLA SURPRISES HER BY MOVING HER BODY TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF JESINTA BEFORE UNCORKING A NASTY LOOKING SQUARE INTO THE LIVER AREA OF CAMPBELL! DOWN GOES JESINTA ONTO ALL FOURS!
Jesinta rolls to her right side holding her stomach with left arm. Lorella walks to the neutral corner with a glare aimed at her opponent. 1....2....3... Jesinta spits out her gumshield as she cries out in pain. 4.....5....6....7... Lorella looks to the heavens as 8....9....10 it's all over!
Winner Lorella Boccia KO Round 5
After:
What a way to start the night as Lorella fights back tears as she finally gets a win in the tournament. She walks back to her corner to be met by Miyada giving her a hug as she tells her she deserves this moment. Lorella wipes the tears away before taking her gloves off.
Jesinta of course needs care from her coach as an ice pack is placed onto her stomach. Jesinta needs a minute before she can be helped up to her stool. Jesinta covers her face with her right hand after her glove is taken off. Trying to hide her shame as now she is only one and three in her record.
After both are cleaned up. They both get to their feet and walk to the center of the ring. Jesinta still has the ice pack on her body as she gets to watch Lorella gets her right hand raised by the referee. Jesinta shaking her head almost in disbelief that she lost to Lorella as she stalks off to the ropes and with help, she leaves the ring.
This is a big defeat for Jesinta. She wanted to win the tournament but her chances you have to say are probably non existent now, she'll need to go on a hell of a run and hope results work out for her around her to win it. Now it has to be about saving pride from this point on.
Lorella meanwhile raises her arms into the air as she gets a loud cheer from the crowd. This was such an important night for her, to get the victory in front of her country men and women means the world to her. She is handed an Italian flag as she holds it up for the fans and the cameras.
Leaving the ring after a few more minutes as she is being asked if she could move on. She hugs a few family members at ringside before she finally heads to the back. Could this be the moment to push her career back forwards? |
