Intro:
It's main event time! The Golden Ticket tournament final started with eight free agent welterweights hungry for success. Now we are down to Erin Willerton and Bianca Belair. The prize is a spot in next year's Diamond Boxing Tournament, which could lead to even bigger stardom. First they have to finish the night off by emerging victorious here in San Francisco's Levi's Stadium.
There has been a half an hour interval after Bianca Belair won her semi final against Alexina Graham in six rounds. Before that Erin Willerton defeated Gigi Hadid in eight rounds to set this final up. Both women have proven themselves worthy to get to this stage in hard fights through the night.
Both fighters were given time to be alone in their dressing rooms. Instead through the half an hour break the FCBA network had two former world champions on hand to discuss who they thought would win this bout. Jeri Ryan wore a figure hugging red dress as she had her signature smirk. Robyn Lawley towered over her in a black dress as both joked a bit about Jeri needing bigger heels.
Asked who they thought would win, Robyn waves for Jeri to go first. Jeri says "thank you Robyn. I don't think we'd be as friendly if I was around your age. (Winking at Robyn.) But in all seriousness I have to give both women credit for getting here after a gruelling event." Both Robyn and Jeri applaud the fighters.
Jeri then answers the question by saying "I have watched the action keenly and I think Erin is the better boxer. She is more dedicated to this sport working with her sister. She has a solid punch like Bianca so I think she takes it."
Robyn nods with her but she answers "I respect Jeri a lot and it would have been an honour to fight her in her prime. I have to disagree though, hopefully we don't fall out." Jeri jokingly raises her right fist but winks with a hearty laugh.
"The thing is I have won the Diamond Boxing Tournament. I know what it's like yo have to push yourself and it's as much as the physicals as it is about whose the best boxer. Bianca's nickname is "EST" for a reason, she is the strongest and fittest wrestler we have in the FCBA. With the likes of Charlotte Flair around that is saying something. I think she'll have more in the tank to win and if I am right, boy am I glad she wasn't in the diamond tournament when I was" adds Robyn.
Now it's fighting time! There's a spotlight on the top of the aisle as first comes Erin. As throughout the night her sister is staying backstage for this. Erin looks focused as she marches down the aisle towards the ring with her coach behind her. She is wearing red gloves, navy blue sports bra with white trim, matching trunks and shoes, her hair is in a ponytail as she steps into the ring. Nodding to her coach as they give her a pep talk.
The spotlight heads back to the top of the aisle as out comes Bianca. She walks with her coach at her right side. She is smiling as she has a little pep to her step to show she is confident in herself. Climbing into the ring, she is wearing silver coloured gloves. She has a silver sports bra, matching shoes, while she has a red lipstick pattern on the right left of her silver trunks, hair tied into a bun. Fist bumping her coach as they share a few kind words as this could be the cumulation of what they've worked towards over the past month.
The referee brings both fighters to the middle of the ring, a spotlight on both women as they stare intensely at each other. Normally they might have been friends but this is too important to be friendly. They do respectfully bump fists once the referee is finished their instructions. The lights go back to full as they return back to their corners. The bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
"Ding!" Out they come with a nod to their opponent. Exchanging single punches to feel each other out. Bianca is dipping down stepping in like a fencer to test her opponent out. Erin steps back firing a jab back at her opponents head. That seemed to give the American confidence as she lands a nice overhand right after feinting with her left. Erin gets clocked with a left on her chin to twist her head.
Bianca now driving back Erin to the ropes. She has upped the tempo already as she whacks away at the torso of Erin. Who holds onto her to slow her charge down. They are broken up with both eyeing each other with a cold fury. Resuming with both stinging the others cheeks as they move around the center.
Again it looks like Bianca looks the more relaxed as she slams in a straight square to the face of Erin. Who covers up more tightly as Bianca comes after her with more piston like punches. The bell rings with Erin taking a breath to cool off.
Round 2:
Doubling up her jab as she comes out to fight Bianca. Erin is starting to get some form of rhthym as she moves more on her toes. Bianca does land some nice body and even punches to boobs as she crouches down to edge closer to her opponent. Erin changes things up with short hooks around the cheeks of Bianca when she is nearer to the English fighter.
The model is starting to look more relaxed as she is marking up the face of Bianca. Blood starts trickling from the bottom lip of Belair once again to annoy her. Bianca is catching her out at times with overhand shots as Erin leaves herself open at times.
Late in the round a straight smacks Erin on her chin to push her to her heels. Bianca presses her back into a neutral corner and now landing with piston like punches into her belly button. The round comes to a close with both breaking up from fighting in tight to return to their corners. Both getting a good taste of why their opponent got to the final.
Round 3:
Pushing off their stools to fight on. The fighters are landing a few more clubbing shots around each others cheeks and ribs. Bianca trying to force the issue. At times though she is getting smacked into her face. Erin is showing nifty footwork to keep away from the ropes.
But Bianca times a crisp left hook to the ribs before landing an uppercut to send Erin back onto her heels. Erin finds herself pinned into the ropes with Bianca swinging away with short hooks till she can grab hold of the wrestler. They grapple as Bianca is trying to make the clinch uncomfortable for her opponent by pinning her to the ropes. Referee pushes them apart so they can fight on.
Under a minute to go with Bianca pushing the pace again. Erin is landing some nice shots back into her face but Bianca is toughing it out to stay at midrange. Landing the stiffer looking shots as she keeps Erin towards the ropes. At the bell there is a moment where the fighters glare at each other before returning to their stools to be cleaned up.
Round 4:
Fighting around the middle of the ring. Erin is jabbing a little more into the chest of her opponent to bring her guard down so she can land straights square into her face. Bianca not liking getting hit around her bottom lip as she grimaces. Still Belair is able to land a few hooks around the guard of Willerton when she can close the distance.
In the second minute Erin shows some good footwork to sidestep Bianca to her right and slam a counter left across her face. It's now Bianca's turn to be backed up as Erin unloads a four punch straight combo into her face. Bianca needing to cover up as Erin pins her into her own corner with hooks to the body.
Pushing Erin off her allows Bianca to get out into space. They trade around the ring as Bianca isn't letting Erin bully her so easily. They end up in close clinched and trying to muscle each other back. Not the best tactic for the model to use as Bianca muscles her to the ropes before they are broken up. The bell rings moments later with both fired up for this bout.
Round 5:
Maybe that last exchange in their clinch has boosted Bianca's confidence as she is using her left more to nudge back Erin. The model scowling as she isn't enjoying being pushed off her base. They exchange near the ropes as Erin has to give up ground to her wrestling opponent.
Erin gives Bianca a two handed shove to the chest. Both given a warning to box and not push. They exchange around the middle of the ring. Bianca catches Erin across her jaw with a left hook to open her up with a straight onto her nose. There's blood starting to trickle from the nostrils of Erin as she is giving up ground.
Covering up more tightly as Erin finds herself being bullied around late in the round by Bianca. The round comes to a close with Belair banging her gloves together as she walks back to her corner. Erin meanwhile gets her nose patched up as sweat drips off them both. Chests rising faster as their stamina is being tested after already a long night for them.
Round 6:
Resuming with both trading stiff shots. More blood flowing from the nose of Willerton as she gets clocked on it by a straight. Erin needing to back off from Bianca as the American is pushing forwards. Erin is landing a few nice punches back into the face of Bianca to give herself time to breath.
Past the opening minute with Bianca catching Erin with a straight on her forehead to put her against the ropes. A LEFT HOOK ON THE EAR OF ERIN PUTS HER DOWN ONTO HER LEFT KNEE!
Bianca jogging over to the neutral corner as she wipes her brow with her left glove. 1....2....3... Erin shakes her head as she blinks to clear her vision. 4....5....6... Erin grabs the middle rope behind herself clearly swearing at herself. 7....8.. She pushes to her feet, raising her fists to show she can fight on.
They box on with Bianca looking for the big shot but just missing as she is getting a little too trigger happy. Allowing Erin to dodge and land some nice counter shots in reply. The bell dings to end proceedings with Bianca's fans certainly vocal as they chant her name. Erin meanwhile has a towel waved at her and water poured over her head to make sure she is fully awake. She nods that she'll be okay.
Round 7:
Bianca is getting into the face of Erin early in the round. Erin needing to hold on to slow the momentum of her foe. They are broken up with Bianca looking laser focused to end the bout. Problem for Belair is she is walking into a few clean shots square to her face to stop her rhythm.
Both nearly clash heads at times as a hint of desperation slowly sets in to both women. Bianca manages to nudge Erin onto the back foot. Where she lands a crisp jab/straight combo into the face of the model to knock her backwards. Blood is slowly staining the gloves of Bianca from the nose of Erin.
Late in the round a left hook catches Bianca onto the ear of Bianca to send some sweat flying. Back comes Willerton as she lands a follow up uppercut. Bianca now shelling up as her back touches the ropes. Erin swinging in hard shots as she digs her toes into the canvas.
The bell rings with both women breathing harder as they have sweat dripping off them. Both have blood on their chests from their injuries. Erin is being told she needs to rally as she nods. Bianca meanwhile is listening to her coach as they try to work out how they are going to win this.
Round 8:
Neither are rushing out to engage but they are landing more harder shots when they are engaging. Bianca just misses with a left hook as Erin leans out the way, a counter right lands on the nose of Bianca to bring a few tears to her eyes. Erin clubs Bianca with a left hook on her jaw to turn her head to the side.
Erin is starting to get through more often with her punches. Bianca trying to keep on her feet planted to exchange with Erin. She can't though as Erin is overwhelming her in their exchanges as the model seems to have found a second wind with her little successes becoming bigger.
Final thirty seconds sees Bianca push her way inside as things get scruffy. Heads grinding at times as they trade to their opponents body. Grunts and groans ring out till the bell rings. Both fighters leaning on each other and need to be nudged apart to return to their corners. This is getting into gut check time for them as they are patched up. Two more rounds to go and they need to find the answers to win this contest.
Round 9:
Neither has much spring to their step now. Bianca maybe slightly more but she is being caught through her mitts by Erin to her face more then she is landing. Crouching under a left cross, Erin comes at Bianca with two hard right hooks under her ribs to make the American gasp out. Bianca landing a left hook around the top of Erin's head to try to make her back off as they fight hard.
Into the second minute they trade in closer. Erin catches Bianca with an uppercut flush on her chin to rock back the wrestler. Erin is starting to land more punches then Bianca as she works her backwards. A CLUBBING RIGHT HOOK LANDS ON THE CHIN OF BIANCA AND DOWN SHE GOES TO HER BACK!
Erin walks over to the neutral corner and rests against the turnbuckles as she takes in a few deep breaths. 1....2....3... Bianca groans as she lays on her back looking at the lights. 4....5.... Bianca slowly rolls to her front. 6....7....8... She gets up to all fours with sweat and a little blood dripping off her to the canvas. 9.....10 it's all over for Belair as she is counted out!
Winner Erin Willerton KO Round 9
After:
Erin covers her face as she can be heard sobbing tears of joy. She is the first ever winner of the Golden Ticket tournament. Her coach steps into the ring to give her a hug as they tell her she did it. While Amy can be seen rushing down the aisle to go celebrate with her sister.
In Erin's corner she hugs her sister tight. Amy telling her how proud she is of her. Erin sits on her stool and admits she is exhausted as she smiles. Amy telling her she has a long slog to go as the Diamond Boxing Tournament is ahead for her.
All the time this is going on. Bianca is helped over to her stool. She isn't crying but she is gutted that she got so close. That knockdown she scored that she couldn't covert into a win will stick with her all weekend. Instead she can only look up from her stool to see Erin walk to the middle of the ring.
Erin gets her left hand raised in victory as Amy lifts her right hand. Bianca steps out the ring and walks to the back. She will be the forgotten woman in this situation but Bianca's achievement should not be forgotten here. She defeated two tough opponent to get to this final, maybe a bit more luck and this result would have been different.
While the winner now has time to build herself up to next year's Diamond Boxing Tournament. She slows goes on a lap of honour blowing kisses to the crowd. Erin gets a round of applause from the fans and her sister. Who is fighting back tears, so happy to see her sister finally get some reward for her hard work.
Out the ring steps Erin with her crew. Amy kissing her sister on her left cheek as they walk to the backstage area. It'll be interesting to be a fly on the wall to watch the celebrations. Keep your eyes out for Erin going forwards as tonight she made a big statement. |
