Intro:
Second bout in the Golden Ticket tournament sees Gigi Hadid return to the ring against the hometown hero Eileen Gu. San Francisco's Levi's Stadium hosts the event and Gigi will probably bring a few of her Los Angeles fans into San Francisco to make an interesting atmosphere.
Gigi comes into this tournament looking to get back to winning ways after not tasting victory since 2021. At one time Gigi was seen as a potential champion but after her initial run of victories, she has never seemed to recapture that former form.
Eileen meanwhile has only one bout to her name. The freestyle skier lost her debut against Eden Cohen at lightweight. She clearly hopes a move up in weight will result in better power and punch resistance. It also helps the event being in front of her friends, family and supporters.
Fighting time! First to come out is Gigi to a mixed response. She looks relaxed as she walks down to the ring. Her coach gives her a hug before she jogs up the ring steps and climbs into the ring. Gigi is wearing a gold coloured sports bra with black trim, matching trunks and shoes, gold coloured gloves with her hair tied into a braid finish her attire. Gigi bounces on her toes taking a breath before get opponent comes out.
Now the crowd is on its feet roaring as Eileen comes out. She is beaming as she blows kisses with her red gloves with gold thumbs. Eileen walks down the aisle with a smile as she can't help enjoy this atmosphere. Stepping into the ring wearing a red sports bra with gold trim, matching trunks and shoes, her hair is in a ponytail as she gives her coach a fist bump.
The fighters walk to the center of the ring. Both smiling as they look relaxed around each other. There's a respectful touch of gloves before they walk back to their corners. Both bouncing on their toes before the bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
There's a quick fist bump between the fighters with their left glove before the start fighting. Trading stiff single punches as Eileen is more on her toes between the two fighters, Gigi stabbing her punches around the torso of Eileen to test her reflexes. Gigi getting caught with a few hooks around her temples to make her back off to space.
A double jab catches Gigi trying to move in closer as it lands on her forehead. Eileen has the crowd roaring her on as she now starts to push forwards with her fists smacking Gigi around her head. Gigi needing to dip down and hold Eileen around her stomach before the referee can split them up. Both resuming with a nod to each other.
Gigi is a little too open for her coaches liking as she is yelled at. Eileen getting the crowd to cheer as she lands with several clean shots that are knocking back the head of Hadid. Gigi looks happy when the bell rings to end the round. She shakes her head annoyed at herself for starting this fight off so poorly.
Round 2:
They resume with Gigi stabbing in more punches clean to the torso of Eileen as she dips down more. Eileen landing around the head of Gigi to ward her off as both fighters are working to grab hold of the middle of the ring. Gigi up on her toes more now to match Eileen for movement.
A straight lands flush on the chin of Eileen to open her up to a left/right hook on the jaw of the skier to make her back off. There's a few boos as Gigi now looks to have control of the action. Eileen struggling to land more then single punches as Gigi opens up more on her.
The final minute sees Eileen trying to open up more. Both exchanging toe to toe at times but Gigi's head movement is allowing her to dodge and land some nice straight punches into the face of Eileen. The round comes to a close with both women jogging back to their corners.
Round 3:
Pushing off their stools to resume. They exchange more punches in bunches as they want to grab hold of the action. Gigi landing some nice body shots when she ducks down but Eileen steps back to land several clean shots into the forehead of the model. A few power punches miss as they are both trying to land some bigger shots behind their jabs.
A double jab opens up Gigi to an uppy to knock her head back. Eileen presses back Gigi into her own corner, working in hooks around the guard of Hadid to make her grunt. Gigi needs to grab onto Eileen to get the referee to step in to break them apart. Gigi looks happy to have space to work in again as they exchange again.
Each punch Gu lands is getting a rousing cheer. Gigi looks annoyed the more she hears the cheers. They step around the ring as Gigi is giving up ground to Eileen. The round ends with Eileen nodding to her family at ringside. Gigi on the other hand taps her gloves together to try to calm herself down so she doesn't get look her cool.
Round 4:
Punching more around each others torso with Gigi moving in more closely to Eileen. They nearly touch heads at times. Gigi might have set a trap for Eileen as she uses her left forearm to create space before she lands an uppercut to make Eileen back up two steps as her head snaps back.
Gigi now is herding Eileen around near the ropes. Eileen is landing some crisp shots into the face of Gigi but is being outworked by the model. Gigi is switching up her targets nicely to make it hard for her opponent to protect herself.
Under forty five seconds to go. Gigi lands a crisp right into the stomach of Eileen, who groans out and comes firing back with short hooks. It seems like that woke up Eileen as Gigi is now in a firefight around the middle of the ring. The round comes to an end with both staring each other down as now the competitive urge to win is foremost to them.
Round 5:
Resuming with more stiffer shots being exchanged as they plant their feet more. There's a redness around their cheeks. Eileen lands a crisp left hook around the ear of Gigi to knock her to the left side two steps. Eileen using the opening to start walking down Gigi to pin her against the ropes.
Second minute sees Eileen herding Gigi along the ropes. The crowd chanting her name as they urge their local hero on. Gigi grabs hold of Eileen's right arm and lands a few short rights into the side of Eileen's head before the referee gets involved to split them up. Gigi given a warning to keep things clean.
Coming to the end of the round. Gigi is moving more around the ring landing straight shots as she doesn't want to get pinned down again. Eileen hunting her down but can't trap her again before the round ends. Eileen wiping her brow down with the back of her right glove as she smiles to her coach.
Round 6:
Pushing off their stools to resume with both women moving in tighter. Eileen looking to land more power shots but Gigi nudges her to the chest with her left before ducking under them. A straight lands flush on the chin of Gu to open her up to a left hook on the jaw to twist her head.
Into the second minute, Gigi is starting to catch Eileen more around her chin. The crowd firmly trying to rally behind their girl but she is being knocked back towards the ropes. Eileen tries to push off Gigi as desperation looks to be setting in. A RIGHT HOOK ON THE CHIN SENDS EILEEN DOWN ONTO HER BACK!
Boos ring out as Gigi walks to the neutral corner with a breath of relief. 1....2....3.... Boos turn to cheering on Eileen to try to get her to stand up. 4....5....6... Eileen rolls slowly to her front as she tries to get to her feet. 7....8... Eileen's arms are like jelly though as she falls back to her front 9....10 that's all she wrote!
Winner Gigi Hadid KO Round 6
After:
Three years looking for another victory and Gigi breaks her losing run. It shows how much it means to her as she raises her arms in the air with a big beaming smile on her face as she ignores the loud boos her way. After getting her gloves off by her coach, Gigi walks over to her beaten opponent.
Eileen looks up with tears running down her face as she is crushed losing in front of her home town crowd. Gigi offers a hand out and Eileen accepts as she nods to her conquerer. Up goes Eileen to her feet to get a warm embrace from Gigi as she is told to not let tonight crush her.
Lifting the right hand of Eileen up. Gigi shows her class and gets the crowd back on board as they cheer Eileen. Who points at Gigi and tells her fans to not boo her. Eileen with help from her coach leaves the ring moments later with Eileen hugging her family members at ringside. Heading to the back wiping the tears away.
In the ring Gigi gets her left hand raised by the referee. She nods to the nearest camera before she leaves the ring. She has Erin Willerton to look forwards in the semi finals later tonight. Gigi heading to the back with her coach knowing she is not going to have an easier time ahead. |
