Intro:
We kick off the Golden Ticket tournament with Jourdan Dunn making her comeback to the ring against Erin Willerton. Both English fighters want to prove a point and will need to go through each other to move a step closer to glory here in San Francisco's Levi's Stadium.
Jourdan last fought back in 2019, she went on a losing streak where she couldn't buy a win that year in the Contenders Six tournament. That led to her taking a hiatus but clearly the boxing bug has come back and she looks to remind the world all about her knockout power that nearly earned her the BBU welterweight title at one point.
Erin meanwhile hopes to earn a spot in the Diamond Boxing Tournament that helped catapult her sister Amy to elite status. Erin comes into this tournament in decent form with two wins last year. Her last bout ended in a loss to Solveig Mork Hansen.
Fighting time! The crowd is buzzing as out comes Jourdan. She struts down the aisle to the ring as if she owns the place, showing her confidence has seemingly come back strong as ever. She steps into the ring wearing a black sports bra, matching trunks, shoes and gloves, hair is braided as her coach tells her to show everyone she is back to rule this division.
Out comes Erin after cameras catch her hugging her sister Amy in the hallway. Clearly she wants Amy not to be a distraction but still wants her support. Erin bags her red gloves together as she has her eyes on the ring. She climbs into the ring wearing a navy blue sports bra with white trim, matching trunks and shoes, her hair is in a ponytail as she bounces on her toes in her corner.
Both fighters walk to the middle of the ring with Jourdan staring downwards at Erin, who shows no fear glaring back up at her. The touch of gloves between them is tense as no love lost here. Walking back to their corners. The bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Jourdan looking to engage on the front foot to drive back Erin. The crowd certainly look to be enjoying Erin up on her toes as he jugs jiggle. She ducks under a straight before landing a crisp right to the body then a left hook to the ribs of Jourdan to make her groan out and retreat back.
A straight on the chin of Dunn knocks her head back as Willerton looks to now be the aggression one. Jourdan ends up to the ropes as her torso is being worked over. Pushing off Erin so she can get into space as she uses her jab more to try to set up her big right hand.
Still Erin is reading the right coming too easily. Ducking to dodge if as she keeps testing the abs of Jourdan to see if she can take it. Jourdan grunting with each clean hit as she lands more scruffy shots around the head of her opponent. The bell rings with Jourdan maybe showing her ring rust already.
Round 2:
Out they come with eyes locked as they exchange jabs. Jourdan uses a few more feints with her right to not be so predictable, landing it more when she sees a gap in the guard of her foe. Erin still sticking to predominantly going to the body as she clearly wants to wear the big hitter out.
A right lands square on the forehead of Erin to snap her head back. Jourdan powers her back into a neutral corner after landing a clean three punch straight combo to her face. Erin covering up more tightly, throwing less punches not wanting to take much damage under siege till she sees a chance to push Jourdan off her.
Back at it they go with Erin moving more to midrange to work. Going toe to toe with Jourdan as they want to grab control of the action. The bell rings to end proceedings with Jourdan looking a little more relaxed as she sits on her stool. Erin has a few marks on her cheeks but no look of worry yet.
Round 3:
Again Dunn is using little feints to open up Erin. They trade single punches but Jourdan is landing her stiff right to make Erin grimace as she feels the power through to her toes. jourdan knocks Erin back towards the ropes as the lanky model is swinging through her hips to send some sweat flying off the head of Erin.
Clinching with Jourdan to slow her down, Erin looks happy when they are split up and Erin can get into space. Jourdan holding the middle of the ring though looking confident as she is throwing more two to three punch combinations compared to Erin's single punches.
Late in the round Erin manages to deflect a straight before landing her own into the chest of Dunn to make her grit her gumshield. A left hook catches Jourdan on her chin to twist her head around. Erin presses her opponent back onto the ropes to get back to the torso just before the round ends. Both women getting wiped down in their corners as they listen to their coaches.
Round 4:
Resuming around the middle of the ring. Jourdan is giving Erin openings as she has her guard too open trying to land more power punches now her confidence is clearly up. A right lands flush into the breadbasket of Dunn to make her gasp. Jourdan moving back out to create space.
A jab/straight lands flush on the nose of Jourdan, who swings back with a right hook that finds thin air. Another straight lands into the body of Jourdan as she is starting to breath more quickly. Trying to keep off Erin with short hooks around her head to ward off the smaller fighter.
Jourdan trying to get her jab back to hold off the charging Erin. It works for around twenty seconds but an overhand right lands on her chin to make Jourdan step back. The round comes to an end with Jourdan looking relieved. Erin throws a few punches on her way back to her corner as she clearly smells blood in the water.
Round 5:
Jourdan is our working behind her jab but she misses with a right cross as Erin sidesteps it to land a nasty looking right hook to the liver area. Jourdan bends over looking in trouble! ANOTHER TWO RIGHTS LAND TO THE BODY! DOWN GOES JOURDAN TO ALL FOURS!
Over to the neutral corner walks Erin as no showboating or losing her temper yelling insults at her downed opponent. 1....2....3....4... Jourdan is kicking the canvas with her right foot as her forehead is touching the canvas. 5....6....7... Jourdan cradles her stomach as she spits out her gumshield. 8....9....10 that's it for this bout!
Winner Erin Willerton KO Round 5
After:
Erin gets the victory and is the first person into the semi final tonight. She fist bumps with her right fist as she is smiling warmly. Walking to her corner to get a pat on the back from her coach. She can't go too overboard celebrating as they hope to win this entire tournament, not just this bout.
While Jourdan's dream of a perfect comeback has bitten the dust. She needs helped up to a kneeling position with an ice pack placed on her body by her coach. Jourdan fights back tears as she is certainly hurting.
Helped up after a minute. Jourdan is helped out the ring as she shakes her head. Walking with her head down, it'll be interesting to see if Jourdan will be motivated to continue her career. Tonight was a chance to put herself back in the spotlight she once had, instead she will have to question her drive for this sport.
In the ring Erin gets her right hand raised in victory. She leaves the ring moments later with her coach following. Cameras pick up moments later in the hallway backstage Amy hug her victorious sister. Walking together back to Erin's locker room as they discuss the fight in an excited nature. |
