Big girls jockeying for position in the welterweight division. Alice Sabatini with a fine 23 and 15 record but looking to parlay that into a title shot. Godzilla Lawley, who’s epic twenty fight win streak seems a long time ago, looking for some consistency and to break the pattern of win one, lose one.
Italians Boxing Better management working hard to find sparring partners to prepare for the giant, actually take to bringing in college basketball players to prepare Sabatini for the Aussie skyscraper.
Fight night and there is still some culture shock for beautiful Alice - Lawley not only well over six feet tall the sheer mass! Is she 170 pounds? 180? 190? Some questioning decision to waive weigh in for this one. Still, shock or no, Italian beauty fixes the blonde with fierce glare during prefight instructions.
Round 1: Lawley out of corner stalking, right hand cocked, long probing jab. Sabatini, flatfooted but nimble … no stationary target. Lawley jabbing but Sabatini with good head movement and countering with right. Not a punishing punch but not pleasant for the big girl! Lawley lunges to clinch and Sabatini experiences being absolutely enveloped for the first time. Brunette keeps her head, not looking to wrestle, waits patiently for referees break. Lawley able to work body inside but Sabatini takes the round with busier hands.
Round 2: Scrubby McGee in Sceej corner goading big Robbie to “Move yer damn hands!”. Brunette beauty on perimeter … jab jab … straight right … last shot knocks the big girl’s head back and Lawley lashes back with vicious left hook the clangs off Italian’s jaw and fiery model lashes back with both hands. Godzilla takes punishment but beckons opponent to bring it and Alice game to accommodate! Sabatini jabs but following right hand stifled when Lawley bangs left right to body and then left hook to temple. Sabatini rattled … takes a step back .. then right back at the big girl … bell rings and referee has to separate the two as they jaw at each other. Round to Lawley close.
Rounds 3-4: Back and forth action. Ringsiders stunned by Sabatini’s insistence on taking it to Lawley. Lawley scoring her shots but unable to take out the feisty Italian - split of rounds 3 and 4 with Sabatini chesting up with Lawley at the end of fourth and giving her an earful in Italian - no translation needed to figure out the gist of it!
Round 5: Brunette out of corner hot, firing with both hands and actually backing the bigger woman into the ropes where Lawley clinches. IBB corner screaming for a break as the fighter wrestle along the ropes and its here where Lawley is unmatched - its not so much the hitting power she packs but her sheer physical strength in clinches that is unmatched in the FCBA. Finally referee disentangles and feisty Alice right back at Godzilla … and walks into a straight right hand! Sabatini blown to her back - lies there, blinking up at the lights as count goes on. At seven she tries to get a leg under her but just a groan and sags back.
