Intro:
Second match of the night sees Jesinta Campbell (1-3) try to recover her form as the Diamond Boxing Tournament has certainly not went her way. She certainly isn't getting an easy opponent to try to do that with as Antje Utgaard (4-0) is undefeated after four rounds. The Alamodome hosts this bout.
Before the bout both women were asked to come onto an FCBA to speak their mind to the camera. Jesinta stepped onto the seat first wearing a white blouse, blue jeans and white sneakers as she looked a little downbeat. Sitting down pushing her hair behind her ears.
"Look I came into this tournament to be an ambassador for the ACB. I am the welterweight champion and am damn proud to hold that title but I do wonder how worthy I am of it right now. I have lost three fights in a row. I started this tournament one win up and now I am fighting for my reputation" says Jesinta in a tense tone as she has her fists clenched.
She then stares hard into the camera as she says "so now I focus on myself and not what I hold. The title is back in Australia, where it will stay till I am done with this tournament. That means Antje that I am focused purely on you. I am not interested right now in doing the ACB proud. I have to regain my own pride and I draw the line in the sand this instant. Keep watch on me because I am going to cause upsets before I finish this event."
Antje meanwhile looks bubbly as she walks onto the set wearing a red dress with a low cut front, white trainers to go with it. She sits down blowing a kiss to camera before jokingly asking "should I try to look tough?" With a wink.
She then says "look I don't have to try to intimidate anyone. The facts speak for themselves. I have to thank LeeLee (Sobieski) and my stables management for helping me get this far. I want to continue making them proud and that means I need to go all the way. That means Jesinta that sorry to say for you, I need to put my foot on your head and use you as a stepping stone to greater things." Short and sweet from her as she stands up with a beaming smile.
Fight night! Nikki Visser leads Jesinta down the ramp towards the ring. Jesinta looks serious as she knows that she can't keep losing. She climbs into the ring wearing a black sports bra with green stripes down the sides, matching trunks and shoes. She also has green gloves, while her hair is in a ponytail. Jesinta gets told off Nikki that tonight she turns things around.
Antje now is walking towards the ring with mentor LeeLee. The blonde duo look relaxed as Antje nods to her fans at ringside as she walks towards the ring steps on her side of the ring. Jogging up them before entering the ring. Antje is wearing a red sports bra with white stripes down the sides, matching trunks and shoes, white gloves and her hair in a ponytail. Antje gets a nod from LeeLee as neither needs to say a word at this point.
Both fighters walk to the center of the ring. They coldly stare each other down before crashing their gloves hard into their opponents set. Walking back to their corners. Once everything is ready the bell rings to start 10 rounds of welterweight action.
Round 1:
Both step out to engage around the middle of the ring. Jesinta is the one to up the tempo first by landing a few two punch combos. Antje changing her targets to work the body of Jesinta when she can get in closer as both are showing their tactics off early.
A short left hook near the right eye of Antje makes her back off. Jestina not going to let her off too easily with a crisp straight into the forehead of the American to knock her head back. Jesinta showing her skills off by switching targets up as she keeps Antje guessing where she was going to get hit.
Late in the round Antje near the ropes catches Jesinta with a straight to the nose. A left hook follows to make Jesinta back off. Jesinta covering up as Antje works away at the abs of the Aussie fighter. Jesinta needing to nudge her off before the bell dings to end the round. Jesinta gets a nod from her coach as she made a strong start to the bout.
Round 2:
Both are matching each others intensity as Antje looks warmed up now. They trade around each others torsos when Antje closes the distance. Nudging back Antje to create space. Jesinta lands a few crisp punches around the cheeks of Utgaard to start marking them up.
As the second minute begins. Antje catches out Jesinta with a short uppercut to her chin. That opens the Aussie up to a nice left/right hook combo around her chin to make her back up a step. Jesinta covers up now as Antje swings away at her body with hard hooks as thuds can be heard. Causing Campbell to grab hold of her opponent to slow her down.
They are broken apart with Jesinta coming out her shell when they resume fighting. More toe to toe action. That looks to favour Antje but Jesinta looks better when she takes a step back to make Antje miss, a short right lands on the chin of Utgaard to twist her head before a double jab lands near her temple.
At the end of the round Jesinta stares daggers at Antje. Who doesn't care what her opponent is up to. Instead Antje is being told by LeeLee to keep her wits about her as they see the threat Jesinta can pose here if she lets her guard down.
Round 3:
Pushing off their stools to fight around the center of the ring. Jesinta slamming in several crisp jabs as she looks to keep on the move. Antje cuts off the ring with a nice straight into the chest of Jesinta. Followed up by a left hook on the chin of Campbell to turn her head.
Herded into a neutral corner by Antje. Jesinta has to cover up as her body is being worked over by the American. Jesinta needs to clinch up with Antje to slow her down. They are pushed apart by the referee. Jesinta gets out the corner with her eyes locked onto Antje.
Around the ring goes Jesinta as Antje is hunting her down. They fence with straight punches into each others faces. Antje just missing with a few big shots as Jesinta gets out the way with her footwork on show. At the conclusion of the round Jesinta looks to the heavens trying not to swear as Antje has started to bully her around, something she certainly doesn't want to happen.
Round 4:
Doubling up her jab more as she looks to stick and move. Jesinta is trying not to get bogged down in a firefight with Antje. A small cut forms on the bridge of Antje's nose to give something to bug her with. Jesinta keeping her opponent off her as she keeps on the move.
Antje gets in closer to work but gets caught around her right ear with a left hook. Jesinta shoves her back before landing a double jab around the nose to make Antje back off. Holding the center of the ring as she makes Antje move around the perimeter of the ring.
The final minute sees Antje shelling up as she has Jesinta keeping the pressure on her. Near the end of the round Antje catches Jesinta with a jab on her forehead before a clubbing right across her face to remind Jesinta of her power. The bell dings with both women having a tense stare down before they walk back to their corners.
Round 5:
Jesinta looking to keep on the front foot as she bashes Antje up the middle with several precision punches. She seems to have gotten her footwork down as Antje isn't cutting the ring off as easily as she did.
After the first minute Antje does catch Jesinta with a jab before a straight on her chin. Antje now moves in close to land hooks at the body of her opponent. Jesinta needing to push her to the face. Landing a right cross after creating a gap between them to make Antje cover up.
Antje looks pissed off as blood trickles off the nose of her nose. She is landing some hard shots but is getting caught in return by Jesinta. Who is looking the better fighter when she can create the distance she wants. The round ends with LeeLee needing to tell Antje to find a way inside or face an upset loss here. Jestina meanwhile is getting rubbed down by her corner as she looks more relaxed then she has in a while.
Round 6:
Pushing off their stools to resume. Antje is crouching at times to dodge and counter. Clearly she has took her coaches words on board as she firmly smacks Jestina around the body. A thunderous overhand right by Utgaard lands flush on the chin of Campbell to shake her legs. ANTJE STEPS IN WITH AN UPPERCUT THAT KNOCKS JESINTA'S MOUTHPIECE OUT AS DOWN SHE CRASHES TO HER BACK!
Antje walks over to the neutral corner with a few drops of sweat off her brow as she stares at her opponent. 1....2....3.... Jesinta has her eyes shut as her chest is rising. 4.....5.....6... But that's all that's moving as she looks out like a light. 7....8....9....10 the referee could probably reach 100 here, this fight is done!
Winner Antje Utgaard KO Round 6
After:
Far from the easiest fight but Antje made a hell of a statement with that knockout that she isn't going to give up her tournament undefeated run for anyone. She raises her arms as she looks out to the crowd. Getting a loud cheer as she yells "f**k yeah!" At the top of her lungs.
All the while Jesinta is checked over by her coach and the ringside doctor. It takes a minute before she wakes up but a stretcher is brought in as a precaution with how she went down. Jesinta suffering the indignation of being carried out. It has to hurt more that she was looking good before she got brutally knocked out.
Antje does rush over before Jesinta is carried out to check on her. Jesinta telling her she'll be ok in a not exactly friendly tone. Antje just nods as she knows Jesinta probably isn't wanting to see her right now. Still it shows the class of Miss Utgaard as the crowd give a round of applause.
Once Antje is cleaned up by her corner crew. She heads to the middle of the ring with a big smile. Getting her right hand raised as she flexes with her left arm. Two more fights for her to go before she can be crowned champion but it's hard to bet against her right now as it is firmly in her hands where the trophy goes to.
Stepping out the ring. LeeLee makes sure to let her know that while she has tomorrow off. She is expected in nice and sharp on Friday for a review of the fight and some training. Maybe that's the biggest secret to the turn around for Antje, we'll never know why she was cut from Front Street Boxing previously but her dedication this time around looks impossible to question. |
