Before: “This fight is a simple for me,” says Naomi Scott at the prefight press gathering, “I want to move up the Bantam Top Ten and get a title shot. Sydney is a hot, young fighter and she is just the sort of opponent I need to beat.”
“The my job is simple, too,” says Sydney Sweeney, “prove that I am more than my jugs. I proud of them, of course, but I am a serious boxer and my 5-1 record this year shows it. Beating a former champion is just what I need to remind people that I am a legitimate boxer. Besides, you can see she is taller than me. It would be very satisfying for a smaller to bring crashing down at my feet.”
“I wouldn’t get my hopes up, dear.” Naomi said tartly.
Sydney just smiled: “We’ll just have to see what happens, won’t we?”
“Humpf!” Naomi scoffed.
The two next faced off against each other in the ring on fight night. Naomi in sunny yellow bikini with black gloves and boots(yellow laces), Hair is loose, but wetted down. Sydney in a black bikini with golden gloves and boots. Hair pulled back in a ponytail. The ring instructions are covered promptly, Sydney and Naomi tough gloves and go to their corners. The bell rings.
R1: Sydney advances on Naomi with a fast moving jab that strikes Naomi head and body in a confusing pattern. Naomi seems to have trouble blocking Sydney’s incoming and takes hard knocks especially to the jaw. Naomi does seem to adjust herself as the wrong progresses and she is able to blunt or dodge a good many of Sydney’s punching. Sydney crouching down and moving up to strike at Naomi’s midriff. Naomi trying to counter, but these punches don’t to discourage Sydney as the round ends. Sydney Sweeney wins round wide.
R2: Naomi much quicker out of her corner this round and she scores solidly to Sydney’s jaw and the side of her head. As Syd’s gloves rise to shield her head, Naomi digs in against Sydney’s abs and ribs. (Maybe a few shots to the juggs as well—just because they are, well, there). Sydney trying to hit back, but then takes a strong right uppercut to the chin. Naomi goes back to the belly with a flurry of hooks that send Sydney skidding back all bent forward. Naomi bouncing shots off the sides of Sydney’s head as the round draws to a close. Round wide to Naomi Scott.
R3: Naomi and Sydney both fast out of their corners and get into with an intense battle I the center of the ring. Naomi going to Sydney’s ribs and abs with short hard lefts and rights. Sydney answers with body punching of her own. They are soon toe to toe going at it. Naomi trying to push the smaller woman back and she slowly succeeds, but Syd resisting fiercely. Then Naomi able to heave an overhand right that strikes Sydney between the eyes, momentarily stunning her. Then Naomi pumps more rib roaster into Sydney’s bodies and backs her into the ropes. However before Naomi can take full advantage, she runs out of time as the bell sounds. It was a close round, but the judges give it to Naomi Scott.
R4: Again, both fighters are out fast, now Naomi is trying to use her longer reach to strike at Sydney early. Sydney having her head knocked back several times before she can finally duck under Naomi’s strikes and pop up with chin shots that send tremors shooting through Naomi’s body. Naomi stumbling back as Sydney jumps forward to smack Naomi’s head from side to side. Naomi scrambles to one side and had her guard up as Sydney closes back in. Sydney and Naomi trade head shots and then Sydney goes after Naomi to the body, Solid thumping of her abs and ribs force Naomi slowly back though she jabs stubbornly in defense. Naomi;s resistance gets her to the bell, but it is Sydney Sweeney who pulls out the narrow win.
R5: Naomi resumes her long range attack and this time she is moving to keep Sydney from getting under these punches. Sydney takes repeated blows but keeps trying to work her way in close. She finally manages to get in close enough to go after Naomi to the body, but then Naomi drives her back with repeated head shots. Sydney now backing away, trying to stay out of range to regroup, but Naomi dogged in pursuit and maintaining the pressure. N Late in the round, it looks like Naomi is trying to cut off the ring on Sydney but runs out of time. However Naomi Scott wins the round wide on the judges’ cards.
R6: Naomi is again out fast and trying to make Sydney fight her way in close. Sydney moving from side to side and up and down, constant movement that creates distraction. Then, Sydney makes her move, she fakes a move to the right, but darts in from the left and throws a big right hand into Naomi’s suddenly exposed jaw. BOOM! Naomi all but spun around by the force of the blow and she staggers drunkenly away. Sydney moves with her and leaps forward to land more hard, head swiveling shots to the jaw AND TOPPLES FORWARD INTO A HEAP! Sydney hurries to the neutral corner and watches. Referee stands over the fallen Naomi who is struggling to push herself up off the canvas, but the strength has vanished from her arms. She falls back down, cheek against the canvas, just breathing wetly as official is calling out”
“EIGHT!....NINE!...TEN!...YOU ARE OUT!”
THE WINNER: SYDNEY SWEENEY HAS DEFEATED NAOMI SCOTT KO6!
After: “You know, it felt really good to see the lights go out in Naomi’s eyes as she went down to kiss the canvas,” says a happy Sydney Sweeney after the fight. “I admit she gave me trouble with her long range punching, but I got around that in time. So now I am ready for my next fight. I can’t wait!”
“I think I got careless,” a rueful Naomi Scott says later, “I let her get me off balance and wide open. You all saw what happened: the roof fell in on me and there went the fight. I will bear that in mind my next time out.”
Very lively contest while it lasted. Naomi looked like she was talking charge by using a superior reach., but it wasn’t enough. Sydney Sweeney found a way to land her KO punches and ended up pulling out the win. Naomi Scott left to pick up the pieces and move on. Meanwhile Sydney Sweeney scored an hard puncing win and fans can’t wait to see her back in action. |
