Sayuki Matsumoto versus Ivana Knoll (Words: RF / Results: Lookout!)
R1: Sayuki shows Ivana that last time was a fluke, pushing her back to the ropes with overwhelming power, but is unable to hold her there as Ivana pushes her right back to the middle. A good punch to the face turns her head and the tides again, but Ivana doesn’t look badly hurt at the end of the round, and Matsumoto takes the round by a thin margin.
R2: Ivana is dominant in round two, her opening salvo slipping by Sayuki’s guard to establish control of initiative. Once in control of the tempo, Sayuki beat and beat against its bindings, but could not force her way out, Ivana not making a mistake big enough for her to capitalize on. She takes much punishment and concedes the round to Knoll by a wide margin.
R3: Knoll continues her assault, but Sayuki manages to wall her off with a stiff defense even if control of the match is not yet on her side. Knoll takes this round by a thin margin.
R4: Ivana finally makes a mistake, leaving her stomach open too wide as she goes for an overhand aimed at Sayuki’s head, and the Revolutionary capitalizes. A rapid counter to the gut stops Ivana in her tracks, and another to the chest knocks her back into the ropes. From there it’s downhill for her until the bell.
R5: Now it’s Sayuki who fumbles the opening seconds of the round, and mistakes are deadly. She takes a shot to the chest for her trouble, then a solid hook to her head that rocks her hard. Stumbling back, she tries a counter of her own, a hook that slices around in a wide arc, but hits nothing, and very quickly the chance for a save is gone. Ivana takes round five by a wide margin.
R6: Rather inexperienced, Ivana isn’t the most well-built of fighters, and though her stamina is nothing to scoff at, it is not often praised either. She begins to flag in round six, and Sayuki, more athletically capable, begins to overtake her despite the rounds she has conceded to the Croatian girl. Round six is Sayuki’s show, and if not for a strong showing following a brilliant counter to the guts at the end of the round, it would have been a shutout. Alas for Sayuki, she merely takes it 10-8.
R7: Further grinding her down, Sayuki bides her time in the first minute, waiting for Ivana to work herself to the ground. By the second minute, she is sufficiently satisfied, and floors Knoll with a Superman-esque lunging punch to the jaw.
Winner: Sayuki Matsumoto via KO7!
