Beyonce excited about the move up, convinced she’ll be stronger, have better stamina at a more natural weight—pundits agree she’s a compelling figure at welter. Sense with Knowles is, she’s a property who sells out stadiums anywhere she fights, she hits like a freight train and the rest of the game she can learn over time. Terry’s lobbied long and hard for this shot sensing the opportunity to clip Knowles before she’s fully developed. “Everyone’s talking about how dangerous this fight is for me,” says Terry, “especially early—and I agree: Beyonce is no joke over the first 3 rounds, But I pose a lot of problems for Knowles as well, While she’s winging at me, she’ll be leaving gaping holes and I WILL tag her—let’s see how she handles her first taste if true welter leather, I’m taller, I’m the best boxer in the division—I can make Beyonce think in there and that’s not good for her. Knowles needs a simple fight to look good—that’s why she’s been loving it on Jewel so long, because Kilcher just steps to her and throws. I think I can make her miss, I think I can back her up and the longer this goes, the easier it’s going to be for me.” And the money’s not bad either, right? “Beyonce’s a gold mine,” smiles Terry, “no doubt about it. She’s the welter Britney—everybody’s going to want a piece, but I also love taming big punchers—that’s a big thrill to me, to pit my skill against someone else’ raw power and come out on top.” Beyonce in black bikini with silver vine-leaf design, Terry in royal blue bikini, sold high neck top.
During R1: Knowles gunning for Terry Tyson-style—one savage rush after another straining Farrell’s defense and poise. Knowles’ gloves at her lips walking in and HURLING—hug overhand rights, monster sweeping lefts, all hips and tits behind the lugging haymakers, Farrell running out of ring—she’s smart enough to cover up tight and lean inside the blows, let Beyonce’s punches wrap around—but blonde is still getting beefy contact, especially to the ribs, whenever Farrell hits the ropes. Down the stretch, Knowles wings a looping right that Farrell leans away from , but Beyonce tightens up and steps into a clanging short hook—all chin—Terry sprawls leg-shot to the ropes, Queasy final 10 seconds for Farrell as Knowles mops up—ripping rights and lefts tidy to their flank have the crowd yelping in sympathy as Farrell buckles and soaks. Shutout Knowles—happy grin on the vivacious singer’s face en route to her corner.
R2: Beyonce back on the warpath, stalking forward, leading with power right hands, trying to mop up hooks—sacrificing some fundamentals to generate screaming heat from both hands. Knowles will square up her feet after throwing right hands and she has other bad habits: she’ll drop her left when hurling right, she has other bad habits: she’ll drop her left when hurling right, and shell drop her right to pull left around. Farrell unable to pull the trigger, but she’s starting to get her legs under her, turning Beyonce around the ring, making her miss, After the first minute—Farrell not punching back, but effectively untouchable—she’s legging easy around the ring occasionally dipping inside the power strokes and holding for breaks—Terry slowly establishing some veteran order in the wild-pitching melee.
R3: Terry’s set the table, NOW she starts to punch. Ling jabs to start, just spreading Knowles out, positioning her in the ring, Then, Farrell starts easing back, fading Beyonce’s right hand, then picking her up with a sudden counter right blocky up the middle. Farrell sticking and moving, not hurting Beyonce, but channeling her, influencing her—some in the audience still think Knowles is in charge, but she’s pretty much doing what Terry’s allowing her to at this point.
R4: Farrell had promised to do this: not content to finesse Beyonce and risk losing a decision, Terry’s standing her ground and mixing it up a little, Terry guard forward in front of her face, showing a Livingstone Bramble look—Beyonce toe to toe, pounding away at the flanks, then curling lefts or rights up top. Farrell using torso weave to change distance, leaning out and in, ducking down, trying to let Knowles punch around her, Terry very short, swat-choppy with her punches—little clouting lefts out of the guard, backhand jab-taps off Beyonce’s face, swatting rights on the temple. Beyonce grinning through it, shrugging it off and landing the beefier, louder blows—she wins the round, but Farrell’s able to hold canvas, ring Knowles up with accurate leather as veteran puts puzzle-pieces in place.
R5: Terry puts it all together. Couple of nifty pivots and sidesteps early, couple of feints, get Beyonce tentative and hanging around outside, then Farrell goes to work. Terry dukes up eyebrow height—she just drops punches onto Beyonce’s face and chest, then turns over a bashing little right—turning over the right ankle pretty as she gets solid pop to jaw. Little hook, little left uppercuts—Terry putting tidy stroke on Knowles’ chin and the effect is adding up. Beyonce wandering, shining up and getting moved when Farrell sits down on the smokin’ right. Chop-chop shutout Farrell—she’s got Beyonce backing up taking by the bell.
R6: More Terry. Farrell stepping out and boxing at times, just to change up distance, move Beyonce’s feet, get her unsettled, but Farrell’s also determined to square up and hack away at Knowles’ chin with hardhearted leather. Terry so astute—she’s not fast, but she’s beating Knowles to punches by getting into perfect position and getting off with 6 inch clippers—she’s not a devastating puncher, but she’s hurting thick-legged Knowles with well placed,, accurate, perfectly time right hands. Not a shutout this time, but Knowles’ back hits the ropes and she’s puffy from punishment through 6.
R7: Terry still helping herself—really a fine professional display of boxing/punching. Farrell able to front up on Beyonce with that high forward guard, blocking and leaning inside Knowles’ wild sweepers, calmly picking blonde up with efficient little hooks, uppies and right hands. Knowles wobbled again at the midway point from that smashing right Terry’s turning over—but Beyonce not close to going down—she’s really soaking up a good shot tonight. Farrell closes out the round with boxing, roaming to her left around a long stick—going body with reefing single shot hooks before pivoting away. Shutout Farrell.
R8: Terry purely defensive in the first minute—Beyonce made to look desperate as she hounds Farrell ropeside, lunges and winds up face-first in the strands as Terry sidesteps her. Second minute, Terry double-pumping the jab, then turning over that crisp right cross—Knowles put wobbly butt and sent staggering into the ropes, but once again, she shakes it off and keeps coming. Knowles getting to the Farrell ribcage and breadbasket with some thumping work to avoid another shutout.
R9: Terry stepping left showing the jab—little fatigued as she brings it back low to her hip—Knowles takes advantage. Midway through, Beyonce stalking, taking punches, but applying pressure with her legs—Knowles eats a stiff left off her bruised face, but retaliates with a jolting right over top and TERRY’S HURT! Farrell stepping in fence post holes, does a little hopping hurt-step to the ropes, covers up and gets ROASTED to the waist and flanks by hungry hungry Beyonce, Knowles getting happy to the midriff, bullying Farrell into the ropes, lavishing her with still-fresh pop from both sides—blonde showing terrific late power despite being picked apart most of the night. Farrell gets out of the round with some savvy clinches late, mouth open, legs still trembling from the shock.
R10: Terry makes no mistakes—shows tons of respect this round as she pumps stick and circles the ring, Knowles nibbling her gloves, dipping side to side, trying to land the big one, but her basic deficiencies are on show: no jab, no sense of how to cut off the ring, no anticipation. Farrell able to turn away from booming rights that would decapitate if they landed. Bell sounds—Beyonce’s pretty face swollen from the constant attention from Terry’s mitts—UD10 Farrell.
After: Knowles surprisingly upbeat—accepting Terry’s hu8g and chatting with her after the fight. It’s a successful debut as far as Beyonce’s concerned: “Hey,. I stepped up, I took on a former champ and probably the most difficult style match up in the division for me and went the distance easy, Terry was running at the end—I hurt her, BAD, in the 9th and I was just getting started/ I feel great. I’m a little tender, but I think she was starting to wear down at the end.” Farrell basking in the glow—starting to wear down at the end.” Farrell basking in the glow—fine display of craftsmanship tonight, Terry managing the younger, more explosive woman with aplomb. Only cloud comes in the post fight conference out of the ring when a BLONDE! magazine reporter compliments Terry with “Congrats, Ms. Farrell—that’s the way Cat Bell USED to fight. How’s it feel to take over the mantle as TE’s best fighter?”
