Before: Cool, serene fighters...cordial atmosphere in prefight, though both recognize the importance of this fight. "Sometimes you just know when you've got a rival," Witt smiles in prefight. "You just sense it from a girl, and from the public's reaction to the match up. Rohm and I have been orbiting one another for some time: it's definitely time to make a move on her. We're both looking to fill the void left by Charisma Carpenter, so I'm anxious to separate myself from Elisabeth. She needs more time toiling in obscurity: I'm ready for prime-time!" Rohm frosty in rebuttal: "Number one question I get asked when I go to the gym is 'when are you going to fight Alicia?' This was even before I knew for sure who she was. I can see it: I get it - I know why people are wondering about us and I'm glad we're getting a chance to compete. Alicia's right: this is about separation. I don't want to be breathing hard in the 10th round, wondering if I've done enough for the judges - that's not separation. Separation is putting Witt on her back - the sooner the better!" Alicia in baby blue lace push up; sporty bikini bottoms in random splashes of green/yellow/mauve; white gloves; hair in ponytail with bangs framing face. Rohm in white bikini top/navy bottoms with slim white belt; white gloves; long blonde hair straight and loose.
During R1: Prowling, circling footwork - girls rotating clockwise midring. Witt flashes a jab off her hip, steps in with a swiping right to jug; swatting left to paunch, then tying up for ref's break. Rohm responds in kind: darting jab/swift right hand to chest/swatting hook to tummy and tie up for break. Back and forth thus: sporadic, cagey action - each girl looking to score-and-smother before the other can respond. Final minute - Rohm flicks a quick double jab; Witt rolls down and to her right to evade. Rohm leaning in close, releases a short, pulverizing right hand, neatly clipping Witt to chin as Alicia's looking to roll back out of her crouch with her own right. Rohm dips down low on follow through: Witt's right sails...her torso slops onto Rohm's back as Alicia's all loose and stunned. Witt sloughs off Rohm's back, tumbling to canvas, rolling to her back. Alicia in shock...hands up above her head, legs stiff and straight, eyes closed with face set in tight grimace...IT'S OVER! Thunderclap KO1 Elisabeth Rohm!
After: Highly anticipated thinking man's bout ends in sudden, violent fashion: Rohm detonating a fight-winner off Alicia's hard-to-find chin catapults past the redhead in style. "I'm as shocked as she is," Rohm graciously allows in postfight. "The truth is, we had time-budgetted 2 or even 3 fights to bring Witt to heel; we really thought I'd be bogged down with her for a while. Demolishing her like this really speeds up our timetable and puts me in a good position. Our goal was separation from Alicia Witt, and I gotta say: mission accomplished!" Witt composed in the ring, but in days to follow, she's very vocal about Rohm's 'lucky' punch: redhead doing everything she can to latch on to blonde's coat-tails as Rohm roars past.
