BEFORE: "After taking care of Sarah, it's natural to look Hayden's way," Kelly admits in prefight. "Bagging the two of them means a lot, because they're so different. For one girl to do it, it means you have to be a really well-rounded, high quality fighter, and that's what I think of myself as." Panettiere bright-eyed, enthusiastic at podium: Kelly's respectful, professional stance a breath of fresh air for Hayden. "I know things were really bitter and heated between Sarah and Kelly," Panny says, "but so far, all I've seen is Monaco's dedication to the fight, and the promotion. I'm looking forward to it, because just as it's a feather in Kelly's cap to dominate Foxfire flyweights - it's important for me to deny her that feather. It's gonna be fun: may be the best woman win!" Kelly in black lace push up (hulking); leopard print bikini bottoms; small black gloves; tangly hair wet to the shoulders. Hayden in red/white fighting bikini; small white gloves; hair pulled back into brawler's bun.
During R1: Hayden attacking...and getting picked up by clever Kelly. Monaco fading back in her stance while flicking out jabs, then fetching Hayden hooks as Panny's barging in. Cool clockwise pivots move Monaco out of the pocket: she's turning Panny's right flank, forcing her to reset. Kelly picking spots to disrupt Hayden with pre-emptive attacks - scooting forward to jab Hayden's tummy, then flurry her up top. Nuisance stuff, but very effective/well timed: Hayden constantly off balance, reacting and ineffective early. E-Z breezy Monaco first: she's very pretty back to her corner, head inclined, eyes focused on canvas as she thinks things through.
R2: Hayden smartening up: you can see it in her footwork. Feet wide apart - little hops and jitterbug adjustments in her stance; she's well-balanced, kinetic, darting in and out rather than pressing headlong up the middle. Kelly's counters falling short as Hayden changes distance...Monaco forced to encroach, take more chances than she was. Midway through, brisk trade in right hands shocks Kelly: she staggers out of it, has to pony-trot to her right, thighs buzzing. Rapid follow up, Hayden: she hops in close, tattoos Kelly's flanks a brisk sequence of batting lefts and rights, then gets into jug via short-scrubbing left hooks! Kelly jolted, retreating to ropes: she crouches down behind her gloves, giving up one last ratatat flurry to Hayden at bell. Big smile Panny en route to her corner - sunny where Kelly had been demure.
R3: Hayden in that bouncy, kinetic stance - jitterbugging in and out, fists nipping, digging and batting at Kelly. Monaco grumpy - getting touched up: more and more she's defensive, not letting her hands go to counter off the block. Hayden brisk in combination, but occasionally setting down to pinpoint her shots: exquisite biting hook to liver hurts Kelly; short-jolt right cross turns Kelly's chin at one point. Monaco smart - moving to new positions after getting touched up: Hayden winning the exchanges, but never able to rout cagey Kelly.
R4: Kelly up-tempos, surprising Hayden with gambling offensives. Overhand right lands for Kelly. Left hook lands for Kelly. Jabs knock at Hayden's face as Kelly recovers/repositions off either shoulder. Hayden forced to improvise - trying to punch-with and catch Kelly: backfires when Monaco walks Hayd into a pasting right cross. Panny's sturdy legs hold her up, but she's stamping in fence-post holes: Kelly able to turn into Hayden, square up and really have a go at those ribs. Hup-hup lefts and rights drum at Hayden's lungs, driving her ropeside: crowd hollering as Monaco finishes up all blazing eyes and swinging fists, pummeling covered-up Hayden at bell. Cheek from Monaco as she scoots away from Hayden - winking at a scowling Sarah Carter ringside.
R5: Hayden bouncing in her stance, jitterbugging around: sheer tempo and energy starting to get to Kelly. Monaco circling the wagons, showing peek-a-boo midring as Hayden circles, nips in and out. Panettiere bouncing wide, straight arm rights off Monaco's flank, then stubby-jabbing a left hand into Kelly's guard, preventing the counter: good, sticky stuff from Hayden freezing her foe. Hayden scooting in with head feints - dipping to her left and leading giant left hooks: Monaco socked off her stance, driven back wide-eyed as Hayden locates chin. Kelly trying to time Hayden, but getting frustrated: both girls release on stubby right hands, but Hayden's usually pounds Kelly backward in exchange. Panny the aggressor, initiating and winning the exchanges: Kelly progressively beaten up as Hayden's scoring touches.
R6: Series of in-out attacks sees Hayden chip and whittle at increasingly frazzled Kelly: Monaco keeping her hands up, suffering to the ribcage/waist. Minute mark, Hayden leading hooks, bats Kelly off balance: Monaco recovers, trying to punch a right hand off her back (right) leg, but gets tagged a jolting Hayden right in trade. Kelly's right knee buckles, touches down: she's panting, woozy as Hayden breezes past. Kelly takes her 8, rallying, forming peek-a-boo: Hayden hops in, bounces that frisky right hand off aching Monaco ribs, then hooks Kelly direct to solar plexus. Sob of pain, Monaco...knees bennnnd deep, then straighten as she stoops forward: she's hurt to the body. All the world sees it: Hayden hops forward, issues batting sidearm right wide to the flanks, then that digging little hook up-and-in. Hayden hops-right, fighting off Kelly's left shoulder: vicious left hook rips at Kelly's tummy; right hand takes her above hip/a little in the back. Monaco whining, turning to her left: she tries a loose overhand right, but eats a ripping right uppercut to chin first. Kelly pre-empted, right leg giving way again...she spills down and to her right, bellying in at Hayden's feet. Kelly blubbering, trying to push up off her chest: she's propped on her forearms, legs out straight behind her when ref gets to 10. KO6 in frisky fashion, Hayden Panettiere.
After: Hayden solves for Kelly with lively effort: Monaco simply breaks down under pressure. "She's a very good fighter," Hayden allows in postfight (Sarah crossing her arms in disgust in the background), "but I was clicking on all cylinders tonight. I was a little too excited early and she did outbox me - but once I focussed, I felt like I was just a little too much for Kelly." When asked about Scerbo's electrifying demolition of stablemate Dani Harris, Hayden is blunt: "No comment. I think a certain little somebody has gotten quite enough publicity on my dime, thank you very much."
