Milena Govich vs Amanda Righetti
Sim's dice throw/round overview, my writeup.
Before: One year ago, Milena Govich was finally signed for her first test contract, at Bonzo’s Management. Her last chance she figured, to make it big: at 32. Stable was supposed to give her lots of fights, and evolve her raw physical power into a well-rounded, more complete fighter. Down the stretch: Milena’s fought three fights, including a very lucky win over hard AJ Cook, a good showing against Lis Rohm and a thunderous knockout administered by Megan Gale. Hardly the high-profile, spotlight she thought she’d get (and deserve). Govich looked for people to blame: Righetti and the attention she always gets fit the idea. Milena was in the audience when Amanda suffered her worst punishment in years, rendered helpless against Nadia Bjorlin. Quick thought Milena: I want a piece of that. Now the welter tournament’s around the corner – and nobody’s mentioning her name. Milena wants in. ‘What better than to put the big hurt on the pet of two stables?’ she asks. ‘They’ll HAVE to campaign for me to get in if I stretch out precious ‘Manda.’
Righetti quiet, reserved at Milena’s pre-fight bragging. ‘Keep on talking, Milena. Really, it’s all very entertaining, I think.’ Amanda not exactly happy about entering a big tourney with the Bjorlin loss looming as a psychological disadvantage in the background – this is a good chance to get the engine rolling on full power again. ‘Milena’s big. Definitely a true, dangerous welter. I like that. But she hasn’t shown any skill besides having an extremely heavy KO punch. Sorry, that’s not enough, folks.’
R1: Amanda forward behind her jab, keeping Milena at bay, controlling her with stiff jab. Not a lot of action. Righetti establishing into a cool first round outboxing Milena, when HELL breaks loose. Milena suddenly courageous, moving forward, wants inside - rotating rights at Amanda. CHIN-CHECKER, Milena! Overhand right, coming out of nowhere, rocks the redhead – Amanda COLLAPSES down. Big grin Govich – Amanda fluttering, stumbling up, barely denying Milena the early knockout – what a punch! Govich doesn’t let up. Righetti covering, all guarded at the ropes as Milena goes big on her, owning her. Stunning beatdown at the ropes. Govich punches big and it’s all going at poor Amanda. Brutal work Milena: lashes out with swinging rights from the side, punishing Amanda’s body. Woozy, groggy Righetti, drops forward in pain and gets picked up with an uppercut that dramatically shoots her head back. Hook in the tits, hammer to to the jaw – Milena landing like a machine gun. Righetti’s knees give way: she’s DOWN again. Amanda reduced at the bell to the shock of her corner – is this the Bjorlin fight all over again? Corner does everything they can from massage to motivation. Career-best round for Govich.
R2: Milena comes out hunting, but Amanda’s jab is back in the game. Govich all high-energy, desperately trying to get more Amanda, hurt her some more but she’s shut out from inside access. Righetti using her jab to prevent Milena from following up, while she’s slowly recovering. Not much action from either: Govich isn’t allowed to, Righetti still in the business of trying to collect herself. Govich unhurt by Amanda’s effective left but frustrated that she can’t continue her grinding work from round one.
R3: Govich still motivated, still feels this could be her big night. Righetti’s jab tells her something else. Confidence-building lefts bounce off Milena’s body as Amanda finally starts getting work done. Milena slightly more flat-footed now, clearly feeling the heat. Milena grunts when Amanda’s short, hammering rights touch up her ribs. Righetti likes that sound – pummeling Milena’s midsection with spearing rights. More body work: wide shots from the side, busting up Milena’s rack effectively. Righetti more aggressive, her jab has Milena scowling, frustrated, depressed. Gradual strength reduction is Righetti’s plan – keep Milena busy, make her walk a lot, start going to the body.
R4: More Righetti, more jabbing! Govich does land at times, but she’s unable to deal with Amanda’s mobility, can’t sustain any punching. Hard lefts busting Milena up, she’s pulverized by the power and pace of her opponent’s jab. Strapping shots to the ribs show their effects on Govich – gasping, mouthbreathing Milena. Righetti not too risky, operates behind her jab, shows her technical superiority on all grounds. When she wants, Righetti goes to the body, landing hard on Govich. When Milena starts landing, Righetti reacts, jabbing Milena’s rising hopes away. Effective Amanda after four – Milena’s not badly shaken, but she’s beginning to be battle-signed and can’t seem to get any more leverage.
R5: Righetti tunes up aggression mode a bit: still jabbing Milena in Govich-busting fashion, but when she feels Govich’s power is already declining, she moves in closer. Slugging at one point, savage toe-to-toe, pleases the crowd, sees Milena finally starting to land some more. Righetti at last on comfortable terms, trades rotating rights with Milena, no longer just operating behind her jab. Govich catches Amanda a nice punch on the chin but no visible effect. Govich out-punched in body-to-body contest as Amanda takes over in the last minute. Govich busted up, hurt, retreating, walked down as Righetti’s brawny arms bash away. Good variety Righetti, going at various parts of Milena’s body. Govich slowed down, unable to use her bigness/muscularity the way she could when she was going against lightweights. Swinging side shot catches Milena in her right jug – she’s gasping and a shattering right finds her temple. Wobbly butt Milena – finally takes a knee late. Righetti bombarding Milena with short hooks at the bell.

R6: Early in the round: more of the same. Righetti’s jab shattering Milena at will – she’s on her way to breaking her strong foe apart bit by bit. Milena banged, hurt – something’s gotta happen. Fifth round of Amanda’s dictating terms but Govich is fighting durably – less mobile than at the beginning but proving somewhat sturdy. Pumping hooks toe-to-toe seems to go Amanda’s way, until – Govich’s suddenly EXPLODING in a strong, sledgehammer windmilling haymaker-series that shocks both Righetti and the audience. Amanda winces in pain, face gets shattered, driven backwards. Rampaging Milena combinations bruise Amanda’s face, one punch LOOSENS her head wildly, but even though her knees buckle, her strong legs keep her standing. Amanda flat-footed, lumbers around hurt at the ropes. Govich furiously unleashing crosses and hooks as Righetti’s battered into the ropes.
AMANDA GOES DOWN – short straight punch to the jaw swivels her head, brings her to knees. Righetti beats the count on pure will, but Milena wants more Amanda! Righetti shuddering, trembling under the walloping spanks. Govich wants more! – Govich wants the KO! Effective, heartless beatdown sees Milena bashing at Righetti’s strong arms, shoulders. Govich goes into full body-reducing mode. Helpless Amanda at the ropes, suddenly rams her right up with all her power behind it into Milena’s grinning face – COUNTER! Govich shook, shocked – where did that come from?- , stops punching as her arms drop to the side. Righetti on her, punishing Milena’s face with hard straight punches, battering her way out of the corner. Govich shabby, all guarded up with both hands to protect her face but Righetti just hammers her mitts away. Milena unable to hold her ground, she’s getting powered through the ring, as Amanda gives her payback punishment. Govich standing at the bell, hurt, slow and breathing hard, knows her beautiful 10-8 just got rallied into a 10-9.
R7: Calm after the storm: Govich comes out looking more disheveled after that stunning round, slower footed, growing tired than fresher Amanda. Youthful conditioning allows Righetti to regain ring generalship as Milena’s unable to sustain her thunder from the fifth. Amanda boxing effectively, controlling her with the jab again. Milena looks amateurish trying to be technical. Righetti falling into steady rhythm – stuns Milena’s ribs and waist with a series of strong straights. Gasping Milena answering back but outpunched. Amanda bashes at Govich’s biceps, shoulders now, weakening her foe’s strength, makes her feel both the strength and the weight. Heavy-handed Righetti systematically after Govich’s physical strong-points, removing Govich’s options by targeting various body parts as Milena grows weaker by the seconds. Bell: Govich exhausted, holding her punished ribs. Righetti fresh, strong to the corner.
R8: Righetti brutally (wo)manhandles Milena. Govich already enters the round somewhat shabby…. seven long rounds start to take their toll on her at last. Righetti’s jab knocks at her eyes, mouth early, paving the way. Govich slow, flat, tired – punched immobile by Amanda’s quicker hands. Milena gasps exhausted as that big luscious body gets punished without mercy. Righetti stomps her to the ropes, softens her on both flanks. Stunning hard hooks rip into her belly, mug that swinging rack. Govich trying to punch along, but the sheer pace of Amanda’s attacks bludgeons her. Milena’s defenses die down, her reactions get slow. Beatdown: Righetti pushes Milena into the ropes, punishes her in close, goes in for the kill. Milena’s head swivels when a huge right hands knocks at her jaw. Eyes weepy, ‘Help me’ look on her face – Milena’s protecting arms get thrashed out of her face by Righetti’s fists. Somehow Govich is still standing but her body is almost hanging in the ropes. Amanda’s right hand shoots out, full force, full impact into Milena’s open jaw – THAT’S IT! Govich already starting to sink down, but Righetti leans in to send another right after her blank face before the ref can jump in to protect Milena. Face empty as she crashes to land on her belly, one arm under her body, one stretched out by the side, leg twitching once before she’s still… that’s a brutal KO8 Amanda Righetti!
After: Govich completely out of it, face moist with sweaty hair loosely, eyes closed, lips slightly parted as her head rests on canvas and her broken body lies besides the ropes. ‘See, Nadia’s totally ruined me, obviously’, Righetti smirks. ‘Seriously, though: Milena’s a dangerous foe. I believe she could theoretically knock out any girl in this division. I know they say that about a lot of people, but Milena’s strength not just a rumour. But if you can take punches the way I can, this is a girl who’s really quite helpless in the ring.’ – Amanda obviously brushing over Round 1 and most of Round 6 in her recollection.
Hardly a surprising result – Govich can’t back up her pre-fight talk, but she’s arguably made points with pundits today more than lost them. Her heavy punch undisputed, she did have a few earth-shattering moments tonight while proving her sturdy, strong body can take A LOT of damage before breaking down. Important win for Righetti – classy in her systematic destruction of an inferior boxer while showing tremendous heart rallying back from dangerous situations. ‘Bring on the tourney, folks, I’m ready!’
