SENIOR TOUR

Before:  Part of the Senior’s doubleheader behind Jessica Lange/Kathleen Turner. Welch takes to the ring despite being warned by her people not to take this fight. Both women still have the sheer curvage to make a mouth watering entrance, and both wear the heavier, smoother look well. Dressed in baby doll teddies with puffy, very short sleeves and old style gloves, Markie wears pink, Raquel blue.

R1: Onlookers are surprised how easily Markie is able to body up on Raquel and force her to her own corner. Welch still has the quick hands, and punching side to side lands good leather on Markie’s jaw this round despite Post’s pressure. Markie doesn’t get off, but her sheer strength is impressive as she pushes and leans on Raquel, pinning her in her corner as Welch tries unsuccessfully to punch her way out. At the bell, Raquel already looks winded.

R2,3,4,5,6: The crowd is reduced to stunned silence as Markie Post bodies up on Raquel Welch, and systematically dismantles history’s great ever celebrity fighter. Each and every round a shutout—unheard of dominance against Raquel by any opponent. Markie does it with leg and body strength, walking Raquel to the ropes and corners, using her shoulders and forearms to keep Raquel pinned, and turning into clubbing hooks that land with sickening ease round after round. Welch stands with her butt on the turnbuckle, hands up, but Markie slugs through the guard with Frazieresque intensity, snapping Raquel’s head to the side with each crushing hook. the body work is exquisite: Post literally shoves Raquel back to pound one-twos into her chubby gut, bending the brunette over in pain. What shocks the crowd is Welch’s docility: she sags in the corner as though she were meant to be there, covering up, punching half heartedly as though afraid to get hit. It is a sad, merciless beating for Raquel, who is soon reduced to a slack jawed resignation in these rounds. After 6, her head trainer is heard to say: “Baby, if you ain’t gonna fight, we gotta stop this thing.” Raquel waves him off, and the massacre continues.

R7: More Markie, but Raquel breaks the shutout streak at least, leaning cheek to cheek against Post and exchanging rising body shots inside.

R8: Last round as senior bouts are scheduled for 8, and Post, perhaps disappointed that Raquel hasn’t been down, adds insult to injury with low blows as she pounds away at Raquel in the corner, Holding back tears, Welch shoves Markie back, the covers up, and Post wades in with a left to the ear, left to the liver and Raquel slips to the canvas, breathless. Welch uses the ropes to get to her feet, pulls her gloves up, and sinks into the turnbuckle, giving up her body to Markie the rest of the way. Post fights off Raquel’s chest the rest of the way, pummeling the legend senseless in this one.

After: More evidence that Raquel needs to hang’em up. Post couldn’t have carried Raquel’s lunch in her prime—tonight she was embarrassed by the blonde. the bout proves immensely popular with the crowd, and Markie receives warm applause for her efforts.
