You pit hip hop against ballet, you’re going to get fire works, and this fight brought out the best of both women. In a rousing, back and forth slugfest, both women upped the ante throughout in a bruising game of one-up womanship, each trying to better the moves and stroke of the other. In the end, Neve’s power and greater over all consistency proved the difference, but not without Jessica getting all she wanted of Campbell at times.
The first two rounds saw Jessica at her hit-and-run best—stroking Neve a shock-lead left uppercut off a juke-step early, lathering body and head and dancing off to either side with sinuous grace, Slashing Alba punches had Neve busted up after 6 minutes, but that’s about when Campbell started to come on.
Neve located her foe with a jab to the chest and started to diligently invest in the body, clubbing and clouting Alba ribcage, steadily working Jessica to the ropes, In the fourth, Neve started shaking Alba’s trim legs, and after a torrid flurry amidships, a single tidy right uppercut put Jess on bended knee. With Alba reeling, out on her feet—Neve’s follow up swarm of bashing rights and lefts would produce a second knockdown, You could feel the air go out of the hip hop contingent as the ballet girl began to distance herself.
But Alba surged back, There is no more beautiful sight in this sport than Jessica Alba wading in with her high guard, dipping and ripping uppercuts with her long body providing whippy leverage. Neve collapsed under the pressure, badly beaten along the ropes as Jess worked her big-girl style—forearm bumps in the shoulders—digging uppies amidships and curled across the chin, sliding hooks in on the jaw, Grooving punches had Neve cut in the mouth and swooning, but Campbell raised her game once more.
In the sixth, Jessica’s legs gave out as she pulled away to her right too late to evade Neve’s drifting cross. Alba stretched out hurt once again, and once again, Campbell was able to get into her girl’s chest and work. Robust mauling and thumping along the ropes ensued, with Neve carrying the 7th and dropping Alba to begin the 8th but AGAIN, Jessica rose to the challenge. The end of the seventh saw Alba unleash a whip-limbed torrent of stroking power, beating Neve windblown against the ropes, Campbell’s crossed arms and dimmed expression told the tale—she stared into punishment, getting out of the round on heart alone.
Fittingly, the two warriors split the last two stanzas—Neve squeezing out the 9th, Alba nipping the 10th. They fought each other on ragged legs, with burning arms—choosing to lay in more often than not, taking turns in stationary, toe to toe churn. Jessica’s legs couldn’t stand up to Neve’s heat—the knockdowns gave it to Campbell comfortably, but there was more then enough beating to go around tonight as BOTH women limped gingerly to waiting hot tubs.
