Every time Vanessa’s been written off for good and all, she comes back and shows what you can do with a fine amateur background and peerless professional experience. This was pure torture for Brenneman, who came in looking for a quick w points, and instead found herself bogged down in a merciless war of attrition, Slipping and countering, conserving her energy with economical footwork. Vanessa won 7 of 8 rounds, had Amy reeling in the fourth and fifth rounds from short, swiping body and head shots, and the 8th was a savage testimony to Vanessa’s sharp-eyed eye-hand coordination. Poor Amy was a crippled, largely helpless beauty for the entire finishing stanza, stooped forward and taking a systematic beating head and body that deposited her in a heap on her knees at the ropes. Williams might not be a hard 10 round fighter any more, but talk about your dangerous cougars.
