KO10 (final minute of the fight) Cook!

After 5 blistering, back and forth, unexpectedly hard-hitting rounds of fighting, Angie Harmon had wrapped this fight up. Despite stubborn Cook resistance which gave the blonde rounds 3 and 4 on the strength of thudding hooks and heavy right crosses--Harmon had already produced two knockdowns of the young blonde, roughing her up and demoralizing her with veteran hardheartedness. Harmon’s ratcheting non-stop chugging style and a debilitating kidney attack had effectively ruined the willowy blonde. All that remained was for Angie to knuckle down, get on top, and scrub A.J,. out of there.

Ro0unds 6,7,8 saw Harmon commit to just that--pouring it on Cook with increasing ferocity, enjoying longer and longer stretches of dominance at the ropes as the blonde slowed, broke down. More pounding, hammer-fist swabbing of Cook’s lower back produced warnings, and another knockdown in the 8th, and in the 9th--the crowd screamed when stubby Harmon face-punching appeared to have Cook out on her feet.

And in the 10th, the first two minutes saw Harmon cleaning up along the perimeter, stepping-with and battering Cook with the same intense, ratcheting left/right stiff-arm combinations with which the brunette had dominated the blonde all night long. And then, miraculously--Cook rotated out of a crouch to catch Angie a hard counter-hook off the ropes, putting the right hand on top to drop Harmon to her back. Angie fought off the knockdown on queasy legs, took her 8 count--and with her coner screaming for Harmon to clinch out the round--Angie waded in to slug. Cook put three sturdy right hands bingo on the chin to drop Angie again, and this time, Harmon stayed on her back, As devastating a loss--in a career of heartbreak--as Angie Harmon has ever experienced.

And what of Cook? Final minute Kos of name comp are golden--and certainly girls like De la Garza, Sims and Rawat all perked up when Harmon hit the mat. A.J. showed all the usual well-schooled skills of the rookie celebrity--as well as the usual weaknesses--but she also showed that ever-intangible that separates marquee fighters from the also-rans:: magic in the mitts. A penchant for drama. Upset potential. Fluke or no--Cook produced a dazzling moment tonight which won’t soon be forgotten.
