UD10 wide (8 rounds to 2) Richards

Kelly came into this fight bigger and stronger than we’ve seen her--a real women’s mature physique, but unfortunately for Preston--Denise was still the quicker, better conditioned athlete. Richards’ sharpness showed in a fight which never lacked for hard punching and crowd-pleasing contact, but never built real drama due to Denise’s evident superiority throughout.

You know it’s a bad sign when a woman receives body blows, and instead of immediately reciprocating to the offending midsection, she chooses to clinch and grimace. Too often, Preston wilted under Denise’s enthusiastic pitching downstairs, crumpled forward to tie up, and didn’t do much to disguise her discomfort. Richards knew she was hurting Kelly and kept the pressure on more or less continuously throughout--despite a very stuff jab from Preston and effective, though too sporadic, body punching in return. The accumulation built to a crescendo in the seventh when a sustained bombardment sat Preston crosslegged at the ropes, huffing and puffing in shock. Although stubborn and durable, poor Kelly wouldn’t threaten the rest of the way--brushing shaky one-twos against Denise, then clinching after Richards plowed savagely and relentlessly to the midsection in trade.

Good fight for the often maligned Richards: she can look damn good against the right comp. And not a bad fight for Preston: she’s obviously susceptible to uptempo action, but she jabbed well and punched hard in spots when Richards wasn’t working.
