Aniston not well regarded and not often seen fighting on television, but she does have a history of tripping up hot prospects. Best known for stunning the much bigger and highly touted Sophie Marceau in her US debut - Aniston's a heady fighter in the ring and she came in well prepared for the overconfident Mendes.

It would be a fight that every manager of a can't miss prospect dreads, yet secretly hopes his fighter gets into in hopes of hardening the girl into something useful for the truly tough fights down the road. Mendes exhibited none of the disciplined ferocity she used to dismantle Anderson, preferring instead to wade forward and bring battle to a woman for whom Eva clearly had no respect. Early on, it looked a successful strategy as Aniston reeled around the ring, lit up and hurt under a string of whipping, slinging power punches from the latina. But after both women had been badly stung in brutal exchanges, Eva became reckless, hoping to end what had become a messy, punishing affair and the veteran Aniston would take chilling, comprehensive advantage.

Eva Mendes will never have a more nightmarish round than the 4th of this fight - battered from pillar to post, forced to sit and soak on the ropes as Jennifer plundered the body, helped herself to jug and ruined that gorgeous face with uppercuts and hooks. Mendes went down and beat the count on rubbery legs, and from that point on, this fight was simply a measure of Eva's heart as Jennifer Aniston put her girl to the test.

Round after round, a staggering, wounded Eva Mendes bravely struggled up off her stool, trudged out and took her medicine, even winning the 6th and 8th as Aniston took time off to recharge her humming arms and heaving lungs. Had Jennifer been a real puncher - Mendes never would have gone the distance, but as it was, the hurt and often defenceless latina could not prevent Aniston from landing gobsmacking, hellish blows almost at will. Mendes took a knee in the fifth, got dropped a clipping hook in the 7th and straggled to the finish line, all gobbled up by a hardhearted Jenny A on the night. Mendes' people propped their fighter up and put a brave face on the event: not many girls go the route when they're hurt like Eva was on this occasion
