8 May 1999 Sandra Bullock vs Renee O'Connor

Before: O’Connor a throwback celebrity to the Fifties, expected to walk through Bullock in this one. Sandra competent boxer, but lacks commitment on her punches and probably doesn’t have the weapons to hurt the red headed fireplug. White jogbra and teal adidas terrycloth trunks for Renee; Black jogbra and red adidas trunks for Bullock.

R1-4: Frustrating opening for Renee as Bullock is athletic enough to keep this bout at arms length. Connor walks through a slapping backhanded jab to get to Bullock’s body, but the tall brunette grabs and holds on the inside. O’Connor wins the rounds, but it’s a sloppy, boring affair, and O’Connor desperately wants to shine against this “name” opponent.

R5: Get out the sunglasses. Renee comes in fast on Sandra, bobbing and hurling a vicious right hand at Bullock’s face. Sandra pulls back from the big right hand, and O’Connor uncoils into that Riley follow up left hook, and Sandra is OUT on her feet. Bullock collapses back into the ropes, then lies comatose as supporters flood the ring.

After: O’Conner shows the kind of power and compact form that will make her one of boxing’s untouchables. Without the star power to entice big name opponents, Renee might be too good for her own good.
