Before: Benz in her prefight appearances showing up in everything from Victoria's Secret lingerie to little tiny bikini's. She's no teenager, but it's clear she's making a point that her 38 year old body is in terrific shape compared to Garth's - who for one reason or another - has let herself go in recent years. Jennie's still got a curvy figure, but it's got a lot more curves and far less muscle. Garth declining to take up Benz' challenge to appear side by side in anything more revealing than jeans and a sweatshirt! Sad how the mighty have fallen!!
Benz in a rare occurance, is 'the young' fighter in this contest - by five months! She's also the less experienced - by about 35 fights; but what counts is that Benz is by far the more fit woman. Benz was a world class figure skater and she's kept herself in great shape her entire career. Not only hasn't Garth won a fight in a year, she's only won one in the last three years, going 1-8 since December 2007 - and lasting the distance in only ONE fight. Benz is 5-1 since Dec. 11 of 2008! And Garth's once lean body doesn't look like it's seen a gym in a quite a while either while Benz is tight and muscular. The longer Julie can hang around in this fight, the better her chances look! Both have fought a common opponent this year: Garth lost to Ashley Greene by a KO2 in January while Benz won a decision in August.
Benz in a baby blue lace bra/panty set from the Victoria's Secret collection; Garth in a black retro style, full cover bottom and top; both in 'basic black' gloves - probably due to the color's supposed reputation as having a 'slimming effect.'

During R1: Garth stomping out, thighs and butt jiggling; staking out her position at center ring; closed stance; flat footed: looking to turn on the spot; spend her energy countering, not wasting it by chasing Julie willy-nilly around the ring. Only think bouncing on Benz is in her bra as she strolls out and shows she's willing to accommodate her opponent as she gets after it; peppering Garth's plush body with jabs as she rotates counter-clockwise against the stationary target. Garth forced to shift her feet rapidly to keep face to with Bouncin' Julie Benz. Garth having trouble getting off as she's spending all her time turning while Julie is able to PEK! PEK! PEK! her way around as she circles Garth easily.

R2: Same again. Julie Benz undressing Jennie with her slick (ice skating inspired) footwork: gliding easily to her right, keeping Garth turning; keeping pumping a good, solid, stiff jab; Garth's head on a swivel; only offense some lunging, off balance rights that don't often connect. Benz fitting in some tarty rights to Garth's plump, juicy, rack or even the back of her left shoulder when Jennie's slow to adjust to Benz' circling.

R3: Jennie grumpy, giving up her stationary defense; edging forward to meet Julie face on. More nimble Julie easily able to avoid the slower Garth as she Julie circles clockwise behind the straight jab; right cocked threateningly, but saving it until JennieG either does something to deserve getting it or figures out a better approach. Disciplined Benz content to jab her way to a win if that's all it takes. Garth stepping forward to close the range; Benz diffuses the slight pressure by stepping back or simply walking away from Jennie who is showing increasing frustration with her inability to bring Benz to combat on her terms.

R4: Benz still circling; curling in blows from all sides, all angles. Garth starting to labor and Julie begins to sit down on her punches, even engaging Jennie toe-to-toe in rare spots. Garth effective when she can trade licks shoulder to shoulder, but there's not many of those chances; Julie has initiative; she determines when and where the fighting takes place and under what circumstances. She's easily able to step in, land a couple of jabs; a combination or chop down into Garth's cleavage to take her breath away. Every chance she sees, Benz buffeting Jennie's tummy, putting added strain on her recouperative powers.

R5: Benz continues to have her way with the fast-fading Garth. Now when Jennie slide-steps forward, Julie easily sidestepping, then curling in from the edge to slug shoulder on shoulder with her. Jennie shrugging back with short shots, but Julie's liking the sensation of having total control of an opponent for a change and it's clear that Benz steady scrubbing and body punching is steadily wearing Garth down as Julie picks up her fifth consecutive winning round.

R6: Benz up-tempos another notch. With Garth starting to fade, Julie picks up her pace; footwork more brisk, nimble; letting her set Garth up for straight, sloping, right hands firing down into Jennie's cushioney breadbasket one after another. GARTH'S HURT! Gutted, Garth stumbles back onto ropes HURRRT and earmuffs. Benz in no hurry, takes her time tidying up; then cleans Jennie's clock with a steady drumbeat of hart-hearted body blows that leave Jennie gasping, hugging her middle and wobbling back to her corner. Make it six in a row for Benz.

R7: Benz taking the wraps off now; steps-to with Jennie and beats her without mercy. Julie simply squaring her shoulders, standing toe-to-toe with Garth and punishing her body on the ropes. Garth buffeted left and right, sliding along the ropes into a corner, then forced out of the corner and down the next length of ropes. It's heart-breaking for Garth fans to watch - their girl just covering up, arms crossed over her body; shoulders hunched forward, moping red-faced and sucking air - not offering anything back at all. Even Benz gives the referee a 'stink eye' as she spins away and heads to her corner when he doesn't make a move to stop the one-sided contest.

R8: Benz just jabbing Jennie right back to the ropes near her corner; working that soft Garth gut with robusto gusto! Julie coming off the hook to drive rights up-torso; bouncing shots off Jennie's head and shoulders with both hands. Doesn't take long once Julie sets her mind to ending it; the accumulated damage of the last two rounds proves to be too much and an exhausted Garth finally is forced to take a knee...and stays down, her head bowed, sweat drenching her rolly-polly little body after too much Julie! KO8 Julie Benz.

After: With this win, Julie Benz separates herself from Jennie and (pretty much officially and formally) takes over Garth's previously lucrative position as the 'veteran blonde gatekeeper' for all the women in the top ten. It's sad to think that Benz could well have sent into an unwilling and early retirement one of the near-greats with her stoppage of Jennie Garth here tonight. Garth fans can only hope that JG has the will to do the hard work of getting her once sleek body back in fighting shape, because these two gals make a great picture. If not, then it's sad to think we'll remember this outing as Garth's swansong, Girls hug after, there's no hard feelings - if for no other reason than they both knew coming in what the likely outcome would be so no reason for rancor. Benz got a much needed win as she tries to establish herself in a hurry (at her age there's no choice) and Garth got a payday - plus, if she needed it - incentive to get back in the gym and work. But why would she when, like Benz, she can see the end of the road for herself at 38 years old??
