Pt 1

 (Result: Simguy/Writing: Simgrrl)

Before: Leelee (27) and Cat (42) met twice in 2009, each winning once (Sobieski, TKO3; Bell, KO5) so there's not much to choose based on the historical record. On lifetime achievement, however, it's all Cat Bell! The new Hall of Famer has over 150 fights and nearly 100 wins while Sobieski hasn't had 10 FCBA fights in nine years! Fortunately, she's kept busy in independent promotions in North America and Europe before rejoining the FCBA last year. She's faced not only Bell, but also Cindy Crawford and Virginia Madsen and holds (non-FCBA) victories over names like Monica Bellucci, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sophie Marceau and Paulina Porizkova.

Sobieski isn't known for dazzling footwork, but she can slug with the best and is a respected 'big gun platform' who will put a hurtin' on any opponent unable, or unwilling, to elude her. It would seem an aging Cat Bell is tailor made for a young slugger like Leelee. Certainly they're two of the bigger bodied beauties in boxing and ringsiders will get their fill of pulchritude - as long as it lasts - because none of the ringside 'experts' expect it to go to a decision!

Bell: one of her blue Academy bikini's; matching blue shoes; short dark hair framing her face. Leelee: black thong bikini; long blonde hair loose to below her shoulders; white shoes. Black gloves for both.

Factoid: In 1994 twelve year old Sobieski made her film debut in the TV movie "Reunion" while a 26 y/o Cat appeared topless in HBO's "Dream On" and did her first feature film, "Men of War." You've both come a long way!

During Rd1: Both women warily out of their corner; circling left; shuffling flat footed. Neither taking any chances as they push out the jab, step, jab, step. Leelee the aggressor by default as Cat is content to counter; pot-shotting with the right just enough to keep Sobieski honest. The round consists almost entirely of Leelee pushing and shoving Bell around; pounding her aging body; wrestling her off balance, then shoving and wrestling her back into the ropes where the two women trade punches. Bell looking sluggish; getting outworked, outmuscled - maybe she wasn't properly warmed up!? Hey, isn't that Theron's job?

Rd2: Three more minutes of the same. Leelee rumbling out of her corner, Bell stepping off her stool; women slamming into one another mid-ring like a couple of bull moose. More of Leelee pushing Bell back; cuffing and scuffing her up as Bell spends most of the round with her firm butt jammed between the ropes. Cat rolling with the punches, hooking Leelee's soft, smooth, well-rounded, tummy; getting grunting sounds as her reward. Leelee jerking Cat upright with inside uppercuts; jostling Cat's cleavage; piston-punching her paunch, sending ripples through Cat's glutes. Both women intent on defeating the other to the body, but in both rounds Sobieski's had slightly the better of it; keeping Bell off balance, back to the ropes; Bell earmuffing, dipping and rolling. Bell still looking sluggish, still being outworked and outmuscled. Is something wrong?
R3: Big girl gun platform stuff from the outside this round. Both girls setting up in strong, wide, stances; shelling each other at long range with limber-limbed jabbing, hooks and crosses. Finally(!) Bell coming out of her funk; getting the better of the left hand exchanges; using the jab to set up her right. Time and again, Cat times Leelee and once she gets Sobieski backpedaling, the fight gets a lot easier for the big old brunette. Third round almost a mirror of the first two as it's Bell forcing Sobieski's butt into the ropes for some well-earned payback.

R4: Leelee leaping off her stool, wading into Bell, pounding her body. Leelee throws herself into an all-out assault and it looks like she's got Cat ready to go as the breathless busty brunette is forced to clinch up high; giving up her body. Middle minute, however, Bell rallies behind a sharp, heavy, punishing jab; spreading Leelee out and then tagging her with booming right hands. SOBIESKI GOES DOWN. Cat's sweet left hook/right cross combo unhinges Leelee's knees and the blonde spills to all fours, her hair cascading down over her flushed face. Final minute is a classic Cat Bell cleaning up on Sobieski along the ropes; Cat bracing Leelee's right shoulder with her left hand, heaving her upright while beating Sobieski with hard rights to her lush body; rocking her with overhand rights to the head. It's a battered and wobbly Sobieski who staggers to her stool after two minutes of heavy handed brunette bludgeoning.

R5: Bell dominates set-piece exchanges from the outside - her jab outclassing Leelee's. Sobieski again and again forced to cover up against Bell's hard right cross, enabling Cat to body up with her, walk the kid back, then send her on her hopping away with a couple of hardy body whacks. This is likely Bell's most dominant round of the fight; controlling the action from bell-to-bell; crisp jab setting Leelee up for her right. Bell hooking under Sobieski's right elbow or tucking the right snug to the outside of Leelee's left breast. Sobieski cringing in pain by the time the bell rings, tenderly mincing to her corner. Charlize greets Cat with a big hug and a sweaty kiss as Cat sighs with relief onto her stool; long, weary, legs stretching out on either side of Sharon Stone as the trainer kneels in front to lean on Cat's thighs chatting strategy.

Cat Bell vs Leelee Sobieski (conc)

R6: Sobieski out furiously pumping the jab, getting inside for some effecctive push-'n'-punch to Cat's paunch; laying her topweight on Cat's; pushing her; leg driving her back to the ropes where Leelee unleashes some good old fashioned jug muggerage in the early going. Cat, breast beaten breathless, forced to clench as ringsiders treated to a 'show' of two big girls bearhugging; heaving bosoms sloshing, rubbing, scrubbing, as they twist and turn side to side. Midway, Bell sizes Leelee up and drops a crashing right hand counter that puts LEELEE WOBBLY-BUTT! Bell stepping out, hammers a hook/cross combination onto the stunned blonde, driving her back to the ropes where Cat cudgels her from hip to shoulder with rapidfire, two-fisted, fury. But Sobieski bulldozes off the ropes and the two big brawny beauties finish the round toe-to-toe at centre ring; trading bashing blows at the bell. Cat ends up stealing the round despite Sobieski's good first and third minutes.

R7: Bell back to hooking the body; dropping in heavy right hands up top and LEELEE IS POUNDED TO HER KNEES! Cat catching Leelee clean and as Leelee's knees hit the canvas, she tilts over backward, catching herself with her gloves behind her and pushing back upright. Shaking her head, Sobieski gets to one knee, resting and taking an eight count before rising. Sobieski showing her moxy, fighting double-tough coming up off the canvas; not only denying Bell a finishing run with her stubborn resistance with her back on the ropes, but actually coming forward late and hammering Cat backward. Bell: Cat's chest heaving, the old brunette sucking wind as Leelee turns and walks slowly back to her corner where she's greeted with a healthy spank on the butt from Jewel Kilcher.

R8: More big gun platform, heavy-jabbing exchanges as girls the stand off each other's bow to trade. Leelee the fresher, faster mitted; slowly shelling Cat into submission. Sobieski bodying up; getting her hands on Cat's hips to walk her back or waltz her around. It's all Leelee this round as the big blonde begins to maul and bully the legendary Cat Bell. Late: Leelee getting to Cat's jugs with the uppercut; putting her back on her heels; then dropping down, forehead wedged in Cat's bra; pounding paunch with both fists; blonde piston-pumping as Cat folds forward - only to have Leelee raise up and ram her fists, palm down, smashing Cat's wildly jumping jugs. Hard-hearted, mean-spirited, blonde jug mugging late leaves Cat breathless and cranky at the break. Leelee goes hopping happily to her corner where she's congratulated on her good work with another slap on the bottom. Is Leelee's youth a factor in the later rounds? Looking at Cat's disheveled demeanor it's hard to say not.

R9: Leelee continues breaking down Cat's resistance; bundling the big brunette up and tackling her backward; slamming her up against the ropes. Forced to fight at the apron, Cat can't get her back off the ropes and she pays the price! Sobieski the methodical big girl this round - reaching in, chesting up, then pushing off to create space and then beating the old woman rich n' thick to the body. Bell repeatedly rocked, sent stutter-stepping backward in disarray over and over. But just when it seems Sobieski is on the verge of a knockdown, the stubborn Bell bashes back and another round ends with both women toe-to-toe slashing away at the other's upperworks. Sobieski congratulated on her return to her stool; Bell met halfway by a worried looking Theron who steers her arm-about-waist to her corner. Stone concerned, still fingerwagging in Bell's face as the warning buzzer sounds.

R10: Same steady Sobieski tempo and heavy weight of shot again puts Cat's butt into the ropes. Cat tying up high, arms around Leelee's neck; 42 year old body sagging under the relentless assault as Leelee again gets 'big girl' on the fading brunette. One minute into the round, it all becomes too much and CAT IS BEATEN TO HER KNEES! Busty brunette slides down blonde's sweaty body to her knees; her hands clutching Leelee's hips; dark head bowed. Leelee bounces away, arms raised, as the ref moves in to count. Cat shakes it off, sucks it up, rises to one knee, then pushes herself upright. Bell shaking her head as the ref checks her gloves then asks if she's had enough. Leelee in to finish but the Hall of Famer rally off the deck, her stubborn pride coming to the fore. Cat Bell sucks it up big time and contests Leelee chest-to-chest for the rest of the round; not only refusing to allow herself to be knocked out, but taking the fight to the young, blonde, upstart. At the bell: Leelee takes the 10th only to hear the heart-breaking decision - a narrow one point duke Cat Bell.

After: It's obvious both women badly want to walk the other, or do even more. While Bell won the fight, by the end she's in no condition to impose herself on Leelee. Sobieski can't really justify trying anything with Bell - even in her weakened condition. So after the decision is announced, they circle each other warily like two big jungle cats; eying one another and looking for signs of weakness to exploit. After a minute or so of the standoff, the referee intervenes and reminds them there's another bout to come, so they (reluctantly) slap hands in a perfunctory 'shake' and leave the ring surrounded by their supporters, well-wishers and hangers-on.
Later: "When you're in a stable," Leelee tells the media, "there's so much more pressure. If you fail, it's not only you failing, but it's like you let everybody else down. When you're independent and lose, it's only you that sucked. Still, I appreciate the support of my stablemates and I'm just sorry I let them down tonight. I know how much everyone wanted me to beat Bell and give her a taste of my girls here," she blushed, cupping her breasts self-consciously. "They're definitely superior to her old, tired, sacks!
"I got terrific support from the Front Street organization," Leelee gushed happily. "It's hard for an outsider to understand how deep the hatred goes toward Theron and Bell in our house. I wasn't here for much of what went on, but from what they tell me Bell and Theron were responsible for a lot of girls losing their jobs when that stable folded. Fortunately, a lot of them were able to catch on elsewhere, but there's still fighters and trainers who are out of work because of what they did. It's a shame really, but you can't blame someone for being bitter when their whole world was destroyed."
* * * *
"Kilcher and that Front Street crowd have been asking for this!" Cat snapped after hearing Sobieski's comments. "I just wish I'd had Sobby in a position to put some flesh on her; show her a thing or two. It's something you've got to do, especially at welter; leave your scent on a woman when you beat her; be sure she'll remember and not be too eager to come after you again."
Asked about the oft-rumored alliance of Front Street and Empire and that they'll both link up with Foxfire in some kind of 'anti-Academy association' Cat sneered. "Those bimbos are so full of themself! They're scared of the lil' ol' Academy so they figure they have to join forces to corral us? Well, we're not worried. They put their bikini's on one leg at a time just like everybody else and that's how we'll take 'em down - one stable at a time.
"No!" Cat replied when asked if the Academy planned to expand their roster to meet the perceived combined threat from the joint 'forces of darkness' as a reporter from BLONDE characterized them in his question. "There's no need for us to add anyone. I think, despite the number of women in the welter ranks, I'm one or two wins away from challenging for the title again. But, I'm sure if someone wants to join The Academy - or if anyone left and we needed a replacement - they may make a move. But that's above my pay grade. Ginny makes the decisions and I support whatever she decides."

In the words of one expert commentator, "Great fighters are great because they occasionally summon greatness and come through against the odds. Leelee found out tonight why Cat Bell's in the Hall Of Fame, and why 'the Big Cat' is a boxing legend!"
