Virginia Madsen can still beat a lot of FCBA names--even ranked names--but even she realized that full frontal battle against Jessica Biel could end only one way. Instead, the voluptuous veteran out together one of the most innovative and unorthodox fight plans of the last 10n years and hoped with her guile and patience, to trump the physical dynamism of ms. Biel, Negating Jessica, not confronting her, was considered the key to beat her, in Virginia’s mind.
Virginia’s plan involved going to ropes in a very tight elbows-in guard, hands up at her temples, and inviting Jessica to slug--and slug Biel did, with gusto, especially over the first five frames, Wowing the crowd with spanking 7 punch bursts of straight lefts and rights--her shoulders, back and abs shredding into relief with effort--Jessica hammered at blonde guard, looking to disrupt it, then pour though the openings. Madsen would stand and block, walk away as Biel was reloading, then back into the ropes to invite Jessica forward anew. The gamble here was clear: Virginia offered almost nothing back at Jessica, letting the young phenom pour her heart and soul into futile barrages against the grille of the guard, in hopes of exhausting Jess, and picking her part over the latter half of the fight.
Only two things went wrong for Madsen in terms of calculations. One, Biel’s phenomenal conditioning meant that she--unlike the vast majority of FCBA vixens as Virginia had surmised, Recognizing that the 7 punch flurries WERE draining her, Biel eased off the has over the second half--punching hard one-twos into the guard, but finishing up with a much more effective thick-biting hook in behind Madsen’s right elbow. The lower volume induced Madsen to counter more often from the pocket--punching Biel well-timed straight rights off the ropes and knocking Jessi’s head back--perhaps not enough nto win the rounds, but certainly muddying the scoring some as Virginia’s connects were much cleaner and more visible than were Biel’s. Jessica responded with the further adjustment of a robust bludgeoning of her foe’s biceps--a tactic that WAS effective, and had Biel employed it earlier in the fight, it is unlikely Madsen could have held her stiff guard in place for the entire night.
In the end, Jessica romped to victory on the cards without ever really hurting her cagey foe, while Madsen went the distance in a fight no one thought she could finish, Virginia had proven herself a crafty and effective opponent, with the backbone to stink out a fight if that’s what it took to maximize her position. “Other girls can slug it out with Jessica,” Virginia would shrug in post fight when fielding hard Tractorpull questions concerning the fan-unfriendly stratagem she’d devised. “I did what I could tonight, and I’d do it again.”
