Before: Tractorpull’s been calling for a Diaz/Berry showdown for months--it’s finally on and both girls are feeling the heat. Tense stand-offs on the dais, girls engaging in staredowns, rigid with barely restrained animosity--there’s a lot of pride at stake for this fight. “Winner just might be the best pure boxer in the game,” says one pundit--sums it up. Halle in tangerine 007 bikini, Diaz in white “Angel 2” bikini.

During R1: Tactical action as you might expect. Both girls love to step and feint, both need to establish the jab. Diaz darting at Halle’s pretty face while leaning left--Halle doubling her jab body and head, looking to turn on that quick right hand off her chest. Cameron dictating with her height and range--she’s able to nick and peck at Halle, keep her distance, use the ring. Berry forced to be the attacker as she searches for the right range.

R2: Similar stuff--Diaz rangy, on the outside, dancing--Berry feinting, looking to dart in, snatch at Cam’s long body the hook or chin-check her lead right hand. Midway through--Cam with a lazy jab/right hand, misses over the top, leans back to regroup and HALLE STROKES HER A HOOK! Diaz clocked across the chin, hands down and CAMERON SCOOTS TO HER BUTT! Diaz stunned, getting up shabby--she nods “yes” to the ref by her eyes are pleading “no”. ON COMES HALLE! Berry reviving it up, extending the right hand to measure, then CRANKING hooks like the old “Too Sharp” Johnson. Diaz cratering, sitting in the ropes, tilting to her left--face behind her gloves she’s getting walloped!! Berry just ON Cameron with hooks, poking the right in to reset and twisting her body into vicious, vicious shots and CAMERON’S DOWN IN THE CORNER! Diaz busted up, weepy on her knees, hands in the ropes and it’s OVER! Cammie D can’t beat the count--Halle B the KO2 victor!

After: Stunning dismissal in a fight many thought might be an extended chess match. Berry raging around the ring, thumping her chest, climbing the corner ropes--what a dazzling victory. “I ain’t no paper champion!” Halle roars on camera, “Cameron Diaz: OUT!” Berry finding her power stroke at just the right time--she lit Casta up with power in the title fight, and she’s carried it through to this tournament--suddenly a favourite to take it.
