Before: "Laura will hurt," Bridget promises, cold-hearted and clear-eyed. "She's a pretty little girl in with a real woman in this fight. I'm on my show (Blue Bloods) for my acting, for my strong female presence, and to be a role model to young girls everywhere: Laura's a sweeps-week bra-and-panties act. When girls like that fight women like me, they get hurt - plain and simple." Vandervoort scalded: Bridget branding blonde girl a sweeps-week wonder is fighting words. "Moynahan's not the first woman to underestimate me," Laura says all fierce. "I'm tuff, and I'm in the kind of physical condition that Bridget can only dream about at her age. If my body wins sweeps-weeks, that's just a by-product of my training. You know what else is a by-product? Winning." Laura fit-n'-pretty in neon baby blue bikini top; snug white stretch bottoms (essentially a cheerleader spanky); white shoes no socks; white gloves; slick blonde ponytail. Bridget in similar athletic attire - white sports bra; snug royal blue spanky-bottoms; white shoes no socks; white gloves; slick brown ponytail. Girls do touch gloves...eyes're frosty however.
During R1,2: Classy, exploratory boxing - leggy girls ranging round the ring, testing each other's reflexes. Right hands tight to cheeks as left jabs pump: both girls jabbing body and head - bending knees to reach poke into one another's midsections. Laura learning respect for Moynahan's sliding right cross: sneaky punch off the shoulder turning blonde chin a time or two. Vandervoort ripping right/left sequences to Bridgy's waist, testing the firmness of Moynahan's core. Even stevens through 6 minutes...Foxfire corner tells Laura: "Don't be afraid to take this girl to the beach, Lor: you can box with her, but she can't fight with you!"
R3: Transformation in Laura: she's heaving right hands over Bridget's educated jab; stepping into wide hooks ticketed for chin; palming Bridgy's biceps, wrestling with her at arms-length, shoving her off balance. Midway through, Moynahan obviously uncomfortable: she starts a right uppercut from too far out - eats a lunging Laura overhand right flush on left eye and MOYNAHAN GOES DOWN! Right (back) leg gives way, putting Bridget on bended knee...she's up, blinking in wonder for 8. Ropes: Bridgy in earmuff, digging in at apron; Laura steps-to - pushing her head into Bridget's guard and going body with both arms. Vandervoort's tanned young body tense with slugging vigor...she's working both sides of the waist via strapping rght/lefts; dipping to her left to reach thudding hooks in behind Bridgy's right elbow; scraping tuff left or right uppercuts along the front of Moynahan's guard. Bridget sustains, but takes a beating - her face showing concern at the bell.
R4: Illusions being dispelled all around: Laura tougher and harder than team Moynahan expected; Bridget more resolute, scrappier than team Vandervoort guessed. Moynihan spear-jabbing Laura as blonde girl's trying to brawl up the middle: stiff poke halting Vandervoort outside, leaving her susceptible to clean-up right hands on chin. Good pre-emptive stuff from Bridgy - she's chipping and clouting outside, stepping forward after landing...Laura's offence sputtering out on the end of Bridgy's stiff, smart jab. Bell: girls separate...Bridgy glances back over her shoulder to confirm tell-tale wobbly-butt in Laura's trunks...blonde girl eating more leather than is good for her that round.
R5: Laura adjusts - once again confounding expectations by being smarter than anticipated. She's aggressive, but tempering her beach assault with step-in feints, hesitation rushes, looks to the body to set up the head and vice versa. Moynahan frequently missing short as Laura's stepping out, then unprepared when Laura leans back in to work. Moynahan frequently caught in stooping earmuff, her waistline on sale: Laura leaning in with her head, popping her hips/letting her hands go right/left - white gloves bouncing off taut brunette beef to good effect. Bridgy wincing, exhaling through pursed lips as she disengages...Laura outworks her brunette, breaks Moynahan's momentum through 5.
R6: Bridget hardens her heart, begins a patient, punishing assault on Laura's beautiful face this round. Long jab still proving a problem to offensive minded blonde: Vandervoort constantly pre-empted by poke, then vulnerable to follow-on right hands as Moynahan stitches one-twos up the middle like a champ. Bridgy pivoting counter-clockwise, keeping Laura out on the end of poke: brunette eyes narrow as she dials in, patiently battering her gorgeous rival. Bell: Laura puffing up nicely - out-boxed, out-hit by a determined Bridgy Mo through 6.
R7: Laura sputtering...she's trying to push the pace up the middle, collapse Bridget's jab and engage her in sloppy-brawling: Moynahan's not having it. Iron discipline from Bridget as she stands in the pocket, feeds Laura jab-to-mouth, then punches her left eye a right cross with arms fully extending on delivery. Laura rejected, forced to regroup and come again...she's wearing down on the end of Bridgy's punches - visibly slowing. Down the stretch, Vandervoort wobbly-butt again...Bridgy allowing her to penetrate only to reach down Laura's right flank to park rangy hooks in behind the elbow. Vandervoort shuddering, bunching up in earmuff: Bridgy able to disengage and reset terms in turning battles midring.
R8: Set piece boxing engagements - Bridget in forward aspect: weight on front (left) leg; right heel up off canvas; jab intercepting Laura's face, pre-empting her offence as blonde girl trudges up the middle. Moynahan chasing Laura back with right hands on face, punching Vandervoort's head aside: blonde girl sleepy, eyes blinking/half closed, lips parted groggily as toned, tanned legs hold her up. Moynahan so accurate and hard hitting up the middle...Laura punished, greatly reduced, but proving remarkably durable as she's busting up. Bell: Bridget all demure - bowing her head on the walk back to her corner, smiling to herself.
R9: Tough times for Laura Vandervoort: Bridgy dialing in with laser-like efficiency, really putting it on her blonde now. Jabs pound at Laura's face, knocking back her head; right hands slide through to chin, turning it aside. Bridgy showing a little Cat Bell look - jabbing over Laura's right shoulder, then guiding her in with the left behind the head, drilling her the right in close. Vandervoort glassy-eyed, not working when she's held in the crook of Bridget's left arm: older brunette being patient and wicked her young blonde - slowly picking LV apart. Bell: Laura's legs do her proud, denying Bridgy a knockdown for which the brunette was working hard.
R10: Laura's conditioning comes to the rescue: blonde girl catches second wind, legs showing signs of life as she stutter-steps Bridgy, coaxing an early jab out of Moynahan, then surprising her with the hesitation rush. Laura landing: right hands wide and loud to Bridgy's left flank; overhand rights to Bridget's puffy left eye; lunging hooks clouting Bridgy's mouth as she's backpedalling. Blonde girl applying leggy pressure, breaking Moynahan's disciplined front, then walking her down: Bridget out of her stance is a far less formidable brunette. Laura cleans up the 10th, takes a one point duke as a result, stunning Moynahan in the process.
After: Bridget shocked by the announcement: strong second half rally sees her take 5 rounds from Laura, but that early knockdown proves the difference. Girls know each other a bit now - mutual respect shown as they linger together, chatting about the fight - Moynahan disappointed, but classy in defeat. "WHEW!" Laura exclaims in postfight, right hand flat against her chest - her beautiful face all puffy and sore from Bridget's needling punches. "I had a real mental lapse in that fight," Laura explains. "I turned puncher and immediately knocked Bridget down in like the third rounds, and I figured I'd be touching her out of there in no time. Boy was I wrong! She got up, dusted herself off, then proceeded to box me dizzy! I felt like I had the legs to go extra rounds if we were tied after 10, but I didn't want that. I was determined to step it up and outwork her at the end, and thankfully, that's what happened!" |
