BEFORE: "I think I'm insulted," Rachel says with a half-smile in prefight. "If Ali thinks she's going to 'ease back in' with me...she's in for a rude awakening. I'm nobody's come-back fight. Ali needs to get ready because I'm about to set her timetable back big time!" Larter smiling confidently - a little softer around the edges - fuller through the breasts - but she seems to be rounding into form. "When I went on hiatus," Ali says, "I felt I was the best all-around lightweight in boxing. Rachel at the time, was no where to be seen. Now, maybe I've come down a little, and Rachel's made some headway, but has she closed the gap? I don't think so. I'm not 'easing' back in with Rachel: I respect her ranking and I know she can fight. But I'm going to give Rachel a hard beating - an Ali Larter beating - so she and everyone else can see that I'm back. So Rache - when I'm turning your lights out? Know that I'm battering you BECAUSE you're good, not because you're easy!" Rachel in forest green lace push up; black bikini bottoms; black gloves; coppery curls in bouncy ponytail/ringlets framing face. Ali in black bikini; blonde hair loose; black gloves. During ring instructions, Rachel's eyes glance pointedly towards Ali's gut - as they did during weigh-ins: Nichols with just the hint of a smile as ref drones on about the 'rules'.
During R1: Rache shows the right, but brings the left hook thick to paunch - signaling her intentions right from the get-go. Ali hooking back - jugs, then jaw - blonde girl tightly turning over the punch with the elbow dangerously high on follow through. Left uppercut from Rachel smoothly flowing as she eases weight to back (right) leg; Larter weaving forward, looping an overhand right in exchange. Classy, muscular stuff - Rachel pivoting and turning but always in range: Larter changing levels on approach, always moving her head and hunting redhead ribcage. Probably Ali's round: she's constantly forward, pushing the pace...Rachel being selective, always looking to place thick hooks flat on Ali's tummy.
R2: Ali pressurizes Rachel to ropes, begins grinding operations. Blonde head under taller girl's chin; shoulders rotating; fists working gut/ribs/hips; compression-pushing creating a little space for Ali to club short-swipes to Rachel's jawlines. Nichols nice and relaxed in the pocket - taking it tuff in the body, but controlling Ali with either hand behind Larter's neck; stifling the assault best she can. Rache warned for clever hold-and-hit right uppercuts while pulling Larter's head down with the left: Larter gobbling 'em without complaint, sustaining her offensive. Chopping little side to side clouts also scoring on Larter - cuffing her ears: Rachel nice and tight, getting off, then tying up, chipping away in spots as Ali's being brawny. Down the stretch - girls rubbin' and workin'...Rachel jerks a vicious right uppercut to chin - picking Ali up and DROPPING HER STRAIGHT DOWN! Larter awkwardly on all fours - her face pressing on Rachel's right thigh for a moment until Nichols can step away...Larter a desperate wreck pulling herself up the ropes. Wobbly 8, Ali...she's hurt, but ref lets her continue: ON COMES RACHEL! PLOWING right hand straight down into gut; rising left forearm pushing Ali upright by her chest - Larter's head lolling; SMASHING right hand pitching Ali's head over top rope. Larter's head lolling forward as she relaxes against ropes, hands dropping: she's helpless...Rachel's bracing her a left hand in the chest, POURING in a right to face again...ref steps in as Ali slumps out on her feet, oblivious to the pounding. TKO2 in mortifying fashion - Rachel Nichols.
After: ROCKED! Ali Larter stunned when she's brought around - hardly used to such hard treatment at the fists of other beautiful women...her eyes bleak when she catches the jumbotron replays. "Look, what Ali's trying to do - not many women have pulled it off," Rachel says in postfight. "It takes time to get your ring-legs back, and let's face it: I'm a damn tough out after you've been sitting around the house eating bon-bons for 9 months! She was working me pretty good - I felt her strength, but all the while, I was subtly positioning her and KAPOW! When I took her chin, it just sort of shut her off from the hips down. She'll be back - she's strong and proud - but I think she knows I've more than 'closed the gap' at this point!" |
