Candice Swanepoel vs. Odette Yustman (results:simguy/writing:simgrrl)
Before: Odette Yustman is a 26 y/o, 5'9”, brunette who's never had a losing year in the FCBA! With a record of 12-6-0, she has made one of the most impressive starts to a career of any young fighter in FCBA history...comparable to a Theron, Garner or Landry.
By way of comparison, at a similar point in their career [18 fights] here are the records for some other FCBA stars (with their age at the time): Cameron Diaz, 14-4-0 (age: 29) Charlize Theron, 13-4-1 (age: 24)* Jennifer Garner, 13-4-1 (age: 30) Ali Landry, 13-4-1 (age: 27) Missy Peregrym, 13-5-0 (age: 26) Lucy Liu, 13-5-0 (age: 29) [Odette Yustman] Yvonne Strahovski, 11-7-0 (age: 28) Catherine Bell, 11-7-0 (age: 32) Gillian Anderson, 11-6-1 (age: 32) Hayden Panettiere, 10-7-1 (age: 19) [w/52+ fights before age 22!!] Britney Spears, 10-7-1 (age: 20)* Jeri Ryan, 10-8-0 (age: 32) Ali Larter, 10-8-0 (age: 32) Amanda Righetti, 9-9-0 (age:24)* M.E. Winstead, 9-9-0 (age: 24)* Kaley Cuoco, 8-8-2 (age: 19)* Beyonce Knowles, 8-9-1 (age: 20)* Evangeline Lilly, 8-9-1 (age: 27) Katherine Heigl, 8-10-0 (age: 24)* Jennifer Love Hewitt, 2-16-0 (age: 24)*
Note: Swanepoel's record is 5-9-0, but she's also only 22 y/o!
It seems the younger a fighter is when she has her 18th fight, the better. Those who reach the 18 fight plateau before 25 (*) not only have significantly better, but longer, career than those who achieve it later. And it's not so much how many fights they win (see Hewitt) it's they got the experience - taught by older, wiser, fighters.
So in this fight, it's Yustman the heavy favorite; with more fights under her designer belt (against arguably better opposition). She's older, more mature and settled. About the only plus on Swanepoel's side is superior management and a better training facility.
"I don't see Candy as a threat - except to my waistline," Odette jokes when asked her opinion of 'Candi'. "Swanepoel's your prototypical model; spaghetti thin and just as fragile. After I pound her middle a few rounds, she'll be all bent over, whimpering, whining to the referee to stop the fight. Seriously, aside from Decker, they really don't build models for fighting anymore. You have to go back to the classic era of Ireland, Banks, Hunter, MacPherson, Crawford and their contemporaries to find models who could not only hit, but take a punch. The models today are nowhere near as robust as the top hundred or so actresses fighting."
Swanepoel, needless to say, disagrees. "I'm tougher than I may look," she bristles when she hears Odette's remarks. "Not that there aren't fragile models, there are - just as there are fragile actresses. I'm surprised Yustman would be guilty of profiling...maybe it's because I'm African?" she posits. (Did Swannie just play the "race card" against Latina Yustman?) Both women on their feet bristling like a couple of tall, wiry, pitbulls and it takes security a few minutes to restore order...as cameras grind away recording for posterity the two modestly endowed gorgeous women leaning into one another, bosom-on-bosom, eyes flashing angrily, carefully coiffed manes tossing and buttocks clenched and straining. All in all, a great moment for the Papparazzi...almost as if it were staged to generate publicity and ticket sales! (Heavens!)
Attire: Swanepoel back in her baby blue Victoria's Secret bra/panties/garter belt ensemble with sheer white stockings. A very fetching look and one her sponsor's milking for all it's worth. Yustman returning fire: showing up in one of the costumes from her film 'Group Sex' - bra/panties and garter belt with dark stockings. All very cerebral, of course, and the fans appreciate the effort.
During R1: It's obvious right from the start that Yustman's unnerved at not being the tallest/longest body in the ring, something she's gotten used to being. Early on, Candice showing the ability to touch Odette from long range; slapping and jabbing her almost at will...out-touching Yustman and frustrating the brunette at every turn. Candice looking all upbeat and full of confidence as a result of having put in some hard rounds against quality opponents in the 2011 Model Tournament. Odette maybe a little rusty not having been anywhere near as active recently as Swanepoel.
R2: More of the same. Candice vexing Yustman from well outside as both girls are extending their arms; pushing at the other's shoulders to open up unprotected routes to the body. When at close range, lanky beauties pull down on each other's heads...trade lanky hold-and-hit as each wants to work the others body. Candice getting the better of most exchanges banks the points for the first two rounds.
R3: Yustman adjusting, having to force herself inside if she wants to make headway. And she succeeds. Odie hurting Candi with lanky, galloping, robust body blows; hunching Swannie over with hurt, then clapping her upside the head. SWANEPOEL DOWN WITH A MINUTE LEFT IN THE ROUND. Candice rallies off the mat, however, and by the end of the round, she's out-slugging Yustman! CLOSING SECONDS, SWANNIE PUTS ODETTE ON HER BUNS! It's a rare drawn round as both girls score with knockdowns!
R4: CANDICE EMERGING STRONGER FROM THE CARNAGE. Swannie punching hard from the outside, romping forward and backing Yustman up; then strapping her with supple power shots. CANDICE KNOCKS ODETTE DOWN AGAIN! Candice showing her development in her last few fights, twisting her hips and generating sinuous leverage here. Like Candice in the last round, Yustman rallies off her buns, but unlike Swanepoel, she's not attacking; looking spooked and retreating - although in good order.
R5: ODETTE IN FULL RETREAT! Candice charging off her stool, lighting up Odette and sweeping her around the ring like a big brunette broom. Swaneppoel pulling down Odette's head; spinning her around in the neck-clasp; thumping her to the ribs. Odette grunting from the impacts as they wrestle. Candie really showing Yusty who's the boss in this round! |
R6: Odette adjusting again, now boxing behind her good jab - refusing to engage in close combat. Candi still competing hard, but not as sharp or accurate this round as Odette manages to fit in her straight, pin-point, jab coming straight at Swanepoel's more upright torso. Candice slinging/licking strokes landing to good effect, but wide arching swings leave her body exposed and Yustman takes advantage, scoring with straight shots to Candice's face. Yustman unloads a good, sticky, left hook that finds Candice's tummy with good result, letting Odette clean up tarty to Candice's bra with back and forth scrubbing action.
R7: Odette getting it done to the body. Yustman ripping lanky-limbed body shots to Candi's flat abs, then scoring with hooks and crosses to the head as theh blonde's forced to back up. Two-thirds of the way through the round, a left hook to the bra, right cross to the ear PRODUCES A KNOCKDOWN AS SWANEPOEL DIVES FACEFIRST TO THE CANVAS! Swanepoel suffers with her cute butt stuffed in the ropes for the final minute as Odette cleans up, lashing the blonde flanks with mean-spirited delight.
R8: CANDI GETTING PICKED APART. Swanepoel looking a little gassed after suffering a bludgeoning the prior round on the heels of her hard work in the Model's Tournament. Candice looking frustrated as Odette is finally able to long-jab the blonde in the mouth and dig the odd slinging right hand to the body while circling around Swannie's left shoulder. Swanepoel firms in the closing seconds as Odette punches herself out.
R9: DRAWN ROUND. Candice Swanepoel out with renewed determination, forcing Odette to choose between trading sloppy slugging in close or rangy sniping at distance. Whatever one tries, the other counters and so neither is able to do much damage as both appear willing to let the decision ride on the tenth round. Girls finish the final minute embracing heaving-belly-to-heaving-belly; jostling-jug-to-jiggling-jug; cheeks-on-shoulders.
R10: Candi comes out boxing and unleashes the double jab she unveiled in the Model Tournament. CANDI OUTBOXING ODETTE for most of the round, pressing forward behind the PEK-PEK of her newly developed jabbing technique. But it all comes undone late as Odette catches Candice with several crisp counters that hurt the tall, willowy, blonde. SWANEPOEL'S IN TROUBLE! Yustman up on her toes as Candice cringes in hurt and the dark-tressed actress pours it on trying for the knockout. Candice hurt, clinching desperately; arching her back and digging her toes in as she pushes back against the brunette as they trade digs to the ribs. Odette unable to free her hands to get the knockdown and while Swanepoel looks to be on the verge of going down, she manages to hang on hurt. STILL, LATE SURGE STEALS THE ROUND, which gives Yustman a (Tractorpull Special) – A DRAW after 10 furious rounds.
After: Candice spins around and screams at the referee to go to the tie-break format - all full of vinegar and so eager she's (literally) champing at the bit (her mouthpiece) as she sputters indignantly, her saliva soaking the front of the referee's shirt she's so spitting mad. Odette softly demures - she's happy to take the draw and avoid another blemish on her sterling record. Both women leave the ring to loud audicence reaction - Swanepoel to loud cheers; Yustman to derisive boos.
The decision stands as a draw since, the FCBA explains, both sides must agree on a tie-breaker. Swanepoel goes over strong with the crowd and the commentators for being the clear and obvious aggressor while portraying Odette as leaving "with her tail between her legs." A little perhaps, but she's obviously either not as confident in herself as Swanepoel - or smarter. Which is a matter of conjecture unable to prove either way.
Meet The Press: Swanepoel eager to get her two cents worth in, comes straight from the ring to the press area, sweat dripping off her, sheer lace undies so nearly transparent that a couple of the older scribes have to be aided back to their seats by EMT's. "I'm doubly disappointed, naturally," Candice huffs indignantly; her disheveled golden hair tossing and flouncing like a flamenco dancer's skirts. "I had that fight in my hands and I let it slip away. A draw," she sighed. "A DRAW!! God, no wonder Tractorpudpull hates those things! It's dammed frustrating, I must say! Then when I offered...offered... mind you, her a chance to go back out and settle it like women, she hustled her bustle back to her locker room and hid from me. She's probably popping Champagne right now celebrating having escaped with a draw!"
Yustman makes everyone wait while she (probably) confers with her handlers, managers, consultants and script writers. When she finally appears, she's finely turned out, dressed to the nines - seemingly for a hot date or an evening of dancing at some posh night spot. She smiles sweetly and shakes her head - not a hair out of place - and denies she "turned down Swanepoel's offer" to duke it out an additional round.
"I could see the poor thing was on her last legs," Odette said, rolling her eyes dramatically. "You all saw it; I beat her like a Persian rug the last two rounds. I would have liked nothing better than to go out there and knock her priviledged keister into next week in an eleventh round, but my trainer was afraid of legal consequences if I broke something of Candi's. She was clearly in no condition to keep fighting...and besides, the rules are clear: both sides must agree to a tie-breaking procedure BEFORE the fight.
"So I think she's just making all that up because she can't live with the fact that I kicked her boney, catwalk-strutting, overpaid and under-developed, ass from piller to post. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a party to get to. We're going to be discussing my next starring role in a major motion picture while her groom takes Ms. Swan-pool back to the barn for a hosing down and a bale of hay."
