Samia's Samurai vs Dani's She-Devils 3

Birmingham, U.K.

Another must-win fight for the Samurai, and it could be a tough ask, with Alex, outclassed and horribly beaten by Rachel Bilson in Glasgow, taking on the experienced Shiri, loser of a hard deciding fight with Samia Smith in Cardiff.

Alex is not a girl to make predictions, but just says quietly, “I have to win! Simple as that!” Shiri laughs, “She has to win – but I will win! That’s even simpler!”

Round 1

The two girls match each other early on with neat boxing skills, Alex finding Shiri’s right lead a little awkward at first, but she’s quick around the ring, and able to avoid any real punishment from the She-Devil, at the same time making good progress with her own left lead, which is already making Shiri’s face show signs of wear, an angry red blotch on her right cheekbone. Late on in the round, Shiri seems to have stalked Alex down, has her on the ropes, but as she looks to land to the Samurai’s body, she gets thumped, bang, bang real hard to the head, and she’s happy to hang on at the bell.

Tight round – just Alex, though.

Round 2

Shiri already sporting a lot of grease on that right cheek, but Alex’s jabs soon loosen that, and the older girl finds herself being beaten to the punch by this quick footed singer, her punches landing just as quickly, and the American girl’s cheek is looking sore, swelling nastily, and she can’t really box properly like this – Alex has Shiri backed up to the ropes, and she’s just targeting that cheek, the girl looking stunned by the bell.

Alex takes that one, and Shiri isn’t fighting back any more.

Round 3

Shiri stumbles forward, but that right eye is shut – she just can’t see the punches coming, and there are plenty of them, with Alex just loading up, gorging herself as she hits the older girl – it’s over! The ref steps in, thankfully, as Shiri was going to get really hurt there.

Alexandra Burke stopped Shiri Appleby in round 3, and that brings the scores level at 2 – 2.

Muted in her celebrations, Alex is saying, “I would’ve beaten her anyway, but what happened? I hit her hard, hit her often, but her face just blew up!” Shiri is desolate, “Not much I can say! Never had this before – that girl can really hit, though – punch like a mule!”
