PAM/KYLA

Nobody had chose either woman to be vying for the prize at the end and indeed, neither woman had been selected for the initial pampered 8 list. Pam has had to beat the biggest, most celebrated name in the apartment universe to get her toe in the door. Kyla, long considered a poor-mans Olivia, outdueled her counterpart and took the delicious brunette’s spot. They seemed uniquely suited to each other: Pam the come forward, systematic boxer; Kyla the slippery, sleek counterpunching sorceress. If Kyla had her way, she’s vex and bamboozle Pam all night, hurting her with right hands and avoiding the brunt of Pam’s assault. If Pam would be victorious, it would likely be her stamina and volume punching proving decisive in the latter rounds.

Pam KO3 over Kyla: In the end, it wasn’t a suspenseful give and take, a matching of mitts and wits; it was an irresistible force meeting a tired and compliant object. Kyla simply didn’t have her game, wasn’t sharp, and in the first minute of this fight took more clean, hard shots than she had been accustomed to taking in 5 or 6 rounds from her other opponents. Pamela was much more physical, pushing off after punching, bullying and bumping as much as slugging - and her punches were of the short, flat, cudgeling variety which were very discouraging as they smashed away at Kyla’s supple torso, rounded arms and curly-headed skull. Forced to fight, Kyla opened up and held her ground in the second, winning the stanza but abandoning all hope of winning the fight in the process. Committed to punching toe-to-toe with the younger stronger, vixen, Kyla sprawled on her back two minutes into the third, leaving Pamela the Apartment House Boxing Tournament Winner for the summer of ’77.
