Boxing After Dark

Before: Boxing after Dark reward for Williams as HBO delighted with Brenneman’s performance on PPV, but feeling bad got an old warhouse who refuses to accept the verdict. Dunning a dangerous, but used up brawler, can still muster and impressive fight now and again--another KO relegates Williams to the seniors ranks, so she fighting for her career. Royal blue sports bra, white adidas trunks for Vanessa, tight bun--purple sports bra, white adidas trunks Dunning--messy ponytail.

During R1: Vanessa fighting in reverse, dipping under Dunning’s blows, countering withy short licks to the ribs, pivoting to turn the brunette as Debbe comes forward. Vintage Williams as she finds the range this round, coolly busting Debbe to the face, breasts and body with accurate B shots, while keeping under that murderous right hand.

R2: Vanessa still retreating, but looking good, slipping and countering with those short, biting shots to the body. Dunning already grimacing has her moments, kissing the looping right off Vanessa’s forehead, and late in the round, actually puts a little wobble in Williams’ trunks as she h\lands the hook solidly on Williams’ ear. Round goes as a draw--both women doing what they want in this fight, neither with control at this point.

R3: Williams picks her girl apart, still calmly stepping back, easily ducking the right hand, and coming underneath with her own short right to sap Dunning’s legs with body work. Williams pivoting on her lead foot, gives Debbe’s ear a clout with the sharp left hook as she turns--Dunning starting to get wrong footed, standing yup to take picturesque punches, and she’s getting sloppy. At the bell, Dunning looks staggery, reaching to clinch, but getting tagged as Williams seems just out of reach.

R4: Williams sticking with the plan, meets Dunning at center ring, then dips, fades and turns, digging at exposed body of her foe underneath Dunning’s punches--Debbe looking hurt for the first time in the fight, Debbe coming forward, looping lefts and rights over her foe, Vanessa working  into and out of the dip, comes back with those vicious strokes to the body as DD breaks down,. Dunning finally backing off, takes a step back as her hands drop, and Vanessa strides in with a smooth, chopping right on the chin, snapping Debbe’s head and dropping her cleanly to her back. DD out cold, legs straight away, hands above her head as she lies in a stupor--Williams looks almost angry as she glares down at the sleep star. KO4 Vanessa Williams.

After: Williams fighting with cold intensity, turns in a terrific professional performance, breaking her girl down, taking her out with ruthless determination. “That was all about Amy,” says Vanessa in post fight. “I’m begging for a rematch. What are you afraid of?” Van not getting any younger--but does Brenneman really need the aggravation at the start of her promising career?
